Chapter 14

“I am Pierre Laurent, I am the owner of a chain of hotels including this one” “Nice to meet you Pierre but why did you single me out, I mean I just arrived and I am a plain Jane”  “Well the biggest gems usually hide behind plain clothes and are found in plain sight” Jaydeen smiles shyly. “Maybe but I do not think that’s the case when it comes to me” “Well we will just have to wait and see don’t we?” he said. The waiter comes with a tray of foods which he places on the table, another two follow bringing the most exquisite delicacies, which they place on the extended table. “Shall we?” Pierre says “But isn’t this a lot for two people?” “It is but I did not know what you liked so you will show me” he said. “That is a lot of effort for someone you hardly know?” “I will take my chances. Are we going to dig in or what?” “Sure lets dig in” They start eating and as they do they start chatting and what started off as an awkward conversation turns into an interesting discussion with both Jaydeen and Pierre sharing about their lives and laughing away like two old friends. “So your sister you really don’t know where she is?” “No I don’t, my mother doesn’t either and she is distraught. I see how worried and stressed she was, I just wonder whether she felt the same when I went off” “I am sure she felt like that” “I doubt it though cause she and her were never really close, we are always fighting about everything. I think she might have felt relieved that I was gone”  “Come on you are too hard on yourself and I am sure she did not feel like that.” “You do not know my mother, but anyway I don’t want to dwell on this. What’s your story?” “I became the heir to my parents’ empire when they were killed in a plane crash” “Oh no, I am so sorry to hear that” “Yeah I try not to think about it too much, but it was so sudden, it was like one minute they are there and the next moment they were gone. What makes it so hard was the fact that I had had a fight with my dad before they got on the plane and I wish I just wish I had said sorry or we had parted in good terms” “I am so sorry, and trust me I feel your pain” “Thanks” Jaydeen then checks the time and realises that it is past eleven.  “Sorry Pierre but I really need to go and rest I have a big meeting tomorrow and I do not want to mess it up” “I wish we could chat all night but I guess it is what it is. I had a great time though” “Yeah me too” “Can we do this another time, like maybe tomorrow night?” “That would be great, but I am not sure about tomorrow though” “Can I call you to confirm then?” “Yeah sure” Jaydeen says as she stands up. Pierre also stands up and rushes to pull the chair for her which surprises her. “Thank you” She says “The pleasure is all mine” The two of them walk out of the restaurant and to the corridor where the elevator to Jaydeen’s room is. They stand by the doors and Jaydeen presses the button. There is a bit of an uncomfortable silence as the both wait. In no time a bell rings and the door opens. “Thanks for dinner” she says. “Good night Jaydeen” “Good night Pierre”
