Chapter 1

556 Words
It was early in the morning, dawn. The sun hung low, slowly rising into the dusty yellow sky, every second getting a bit higher warning the woodland creatures: birds, deer, foxes, squirrels all of them to arise from their slumbers for the day to begin. But I did not need the sun to tell me to wake up I had Ember. “wake up, the sun is rising I want to see it,” Ember yelled. “Okay, okay I’m awake stop yelling,” I said in that groggy voice I use went I want Ember to get a snooze button. Allow me to explain, Ember is my only real friend. She is my wolf, and even though she can be the most annoying person on the earth sometimes, she is the second half of me. I do not have anyone out here except her. Yes she is in my head and she does, of course, think that sometimes she is the person in charge of me, little does she know I am in charge, I love her and without her, I think I would go mad, although I think that sometimes she is driving me crazy anyway. To be fair to her I always let her out for a run every day, and it seems that today she has chosen the crack of dawn to do that. "Just let me pack some clothes for the run and then we will go," I tell her trying to get her to stop muttering things to herself in MY head. "No way Elena you take forever I will miss it just let me out and I will come back before we change back" Whining after Ember convinced me of the plan, I let her out, changing my autumn, auburn hair to a snowy, white coat of fur and my burnt, hazel eyes for bright, sea blue ones, I became Ember. She ran through the woods towards where the sun was rising, the fur on her back ruffling in the wind, and once we made it to the clearing in the woods she stopped and sat down watching the big ball of fire in the sky rise and listening to all of the animals waking.  Every day, she does the same thing, she rushes to wake me up at the crack of dawn to watch the sunrise over the horizon. Every day, I protest saying "let me pack some clothes for the run" and she always persuades me to run to watch without clothes. Every day, we make it back before I change and any of the animals notice that the wolf on the horizon is the furthest thing from a wolf. Everyday. But not today, today something stopped me from running back to the tower and changing into my clothes for hunting my food. That was what I thought until I realized that the "something" stopping me was a "someone", and that "someone" was a he and "he" was stroking my fur like I was the most precious thing in the world. Little did he know that what is happening right now is supposed to be impossible, but he was doing it like the simplest thing in the world. Then before I knew it, he was leaning so close, breath tickling my ear whispering: "Show me the real you." P.S This is my first book so thank you for patience.
