Mikaela's pov
“I have no idea what you are talking about Ezekiel,” I finally managed and as my eyes met his, I read all the hate and disgust heated in his glare.
“You would still lie? Even now?” He growled and his eyes flashed. His wolf was close.
He turned away from me and held his hand out to one of the guards who handed over a file to him.
“Ezekiel I promise you I don't know what-” the rest of my sentence is cut off as Alpha Ezekiel stood in front of me in a flash and his hand gripped my neck.
I struggled against his bruising hold and tried to choke out a plea but I could see he was already too far gone.
“You will address me as your alpha! You have lost the right to speak to me without formalities,” He growled out and tears blurred my vision as I desperately tried to escape his vice grip and just when I began to feel faint, he pushed me away and rose to his feet.
I sucked in as much air as I possibly could as my chest rose and fell heavily and this time when the tears came I did nothing to stop them.
“Alpha, there must be a mistake somewhere.” I begged, ignoring how hoarse my voice sounded, just as he threw the file right at me but I merely stared at it as I sobbed.
“Open it,” he commanded.
“Now!” He roared when I made no move to pick up the file and I immediately did as he told me.
My brows furrowed for a second as I scanned the contents of the first paper and then the next and then another.
A sinking feeling settled over me as each paper I read was worse than the last, containing incriminating evidence against me.
It was all very detailed. How I helped the ardoni, when, where…everything, including letters between the adorni and I sharing sensitive information about the pack!
My eyes were wide with disbelief by the time I was done and my whole body went slack.
How the hell was I meant to prove I was innocent of this? The evidence was quite convincing, even I would have believed it.
“Nothing to say?” Alpha Ezekiel's voice broke through my thoughts.
I slowly rose my head to stare up at him.
“I didn't do it,” I whispered. I pleaded with my eyes for him to see the truth but all I was meant with was his scorn.
“You are despicable.” He growled.
“I know what the evidence says, I know why you would think I am responsible for leaking information about the pack but I promise you I didn't do it.” I begged because my life depended on it.
“What do the pack laws state is the punishment for treachery?” Alpha Ezekiel announced loud enough for the entire pack to hear and my eyes bulged as I knew the punishment well enough.
I scrambled towards Alpha Ezekiel and held onto his leg tightly .
“Please don't do this, I swear I didn't do it. I'm being framed,” I begged over and over again until the guards ripped me away from him and hauled me to my feet.
“Burn her at the stakes! Burn her at the stakes!” The mob chanted and fear crawled within me as goosebumps spread all over me.
“Death by the stakes!” Alpha Ezekiel announced and the crowd cheered.
All the sounds around me felt muted. I couldn't believe this was real, I felt like a mere observer watching the scene unfold.
When the guards attempted to drag me away, I made no move to put up a fight.
They dragged me effortlessly to the stakes and began to tie me to the large post and only then did it seem to dawn on me that I was about to die.
I thrashed against the two guards and somehow, I managed to slip out of their grasps but before I could take another step, I was violently dragged back and my head turned to the side as a sharp sting landed on my cheek.
My cheek throbbed and I gasped as one of the guards tugged me backwards and held me securely in place while the other tied me to the post.
Alpha Ezekiel walked out from the middle of the crowd and stared at me with satisfaction.
“This is a warning to anyone who dares cross this pack.” He announced before he turned back to me and I flinched as the guards poured gasoline on me.
“”Ezekiel please! I promise i didn't do it. Just give me a chance to prove that I'm innocent please,” I pleaded desperately but all my cries fell on deaf ears just as they lit the stakes on fire.
My eyes went wild with fear and I thrashed against the binds as the fire consumed me.
Through the smoke and pain, I could make out a figure standing beside Alpha Ezekiel and it took a minute to realize it was Joselyn.
“Josselyn, please help me. Tell him I didn't do it,” I screamed as the flames engulfed me and my wolf howled within me, struggling to be let loose but the binds wouldn't let me.
Josselyn’s lips moved but I couldn't make out her words.
Her hand slowly came up and rested against Alpha Ezekiel's cheek before she pulled him into a kiss.
Josselyn pulled back and shared a tender smile with Ezekiel before they both turned back to me and he held her close in his arms.
Despite the flames licking off my skin, a chill ran through me as Josselyn’s eyes met mine through the smoke and I noticed an evil glint I had never seen before. I realized this was all a plan…this was the only way they could get rid of me without looking like the bad guys.
I kept on staring at them as I felt the life slowly leave my body until everything finally went dark.
