CHAPTER1
Mikaela’s pov
My eyes twinkled as I stared at the mirror.
This was it. The day was finally here.
“You look perfect,” Josselyn offered me a warm smile as I rose to my feet and assessed myself.
“Alpha Ezekiel will be unable to keep his eyes and hands off you all night.” She teased and my cheeks heated.
“Since I'm about to become his Luna, I think that should be expected,” I retorted and Joselyn rolled her eyes.
“At this rate he'll be tired of waiting. We are already an hour late,” Josselyn announced, and I bunched up my midnight, flowing gown as I followed her out of the room and towards my destiny.
My heart hammered against my ribcage as we stopped in front of the large mahogany door and I let out a shaky breath.
“This is it, you are about to become our Luna,” Joselyn whispered.
“I'm nervous,” I managed to voice out.
“Don't be, I'll be with you every step of the way.” She assured me, giving my shoulder a small squeeze before she walked away.
I pushed the doors open, and my eyes marveled at the beautiful decorations. I planted a wide smile on my face as I walked into the room and all eyes snapped at me.
I tried to make eye contact with a few of the familiar faces but…they turned away from me?
At first, I was sure I was imagining it, until the glares became more apparent and I shrunk away from them.
What was happening?
Why were they staring at me like that?
I gulped but kept on making my way to the front and when two guards approached me, I tried my best to keep my smile in place.
“What's going on?” I asked them, but rather than answer, one of them gripped my hands roughly.
“What do you think you are doing?” I growled as I struggled to wretch my hand out of his grasp.
“It would be in your best interests to come with us without creating a scene,” one of the guards told me.
“You are creating a scene by doing this during my mating ceremony. Alpha Ezekiel, will have your heads for this.” I roared, but the men merely stared at me for a moment before they began to drag me away.
“Let go of me,” I screamed and kicked, but the men didn't bulge. The crowd parted as I was led away and embarrassment washed over me, but I didn't care.
“I will definitely tell Alpha Ezekiel about this, and he will punish you accordingly,” I spat out and one of the guards snorted.
“We are following orders from the alpha,” he announced, and everything within me stilled.
At their words, I stopped struggling, and I gasped when they roughly threw me to the floor in front of the pack house where most of the pack members were gathered.
I looked up and my heart beat picked up as my eyes instantly met Alpha Ezekiel's.
“Ezekiel, what is the meaning of this?” I asked as I tried to rise, but the guards held me down.
A shiver ran through me as Ezekiel stared at me with a cold gaze and I searched his eyes for the usual warmth which always spread through his eyes whenever he stared at me.
What was happening?
“What's going on?” I asked in a voice I almost didn't recognize as my own.
Ezekiel approached me with a glint in his eyes and my breathing became labored as he crunched down in front of me.
His hand rose up, and he brushed away a stray strand of hair which covered my face. As he stared at me, I wondered about the image I presented. My gown was covered in dirt, my once neatly done hair had now loosened and my arms were red from how harshly the guards had held unto me.
“You were about to become my Luna Mikaela,” Alpha Ezekiel suddenly roared, and I scrambled away from him in confusion.
“” What's happening Ezekiel? You are scaring me,” I choked out as tears pricked the back of my eyes.
“You are a disgrace to me and to this entire pack,” he announced as he rose to his feet and glared down at me.
With a nod from Ezekiel, the guards dragged me forward, so I was facing the crowd. Even with my head lowered, I could still feel the intensity of their piercing glares.
How did everyone else seem to know what I had done except me?
My eyes searched the crowd for Josselyn, the only person I knew would be at my side, but I couldn't sight her.
Where had she gone?
“I guess I should be grateful your ploy was discovered before you became my Luna.” Ezekiel stared at me with plain disgust and I couldn't take it anymore.
“Can you just tell me what I've done? What was it I did which was so horrible, you had to drag me out in front of the whole pack on the very day we are to be mated?” The words left my lips before I could stop them.
The entire pack had gone silent, no doubt wondering where I had gotten the courage to speak to their alpha in such a manner, but at this point I didn't care, I couldn't care not when I was about to lose everything I had worked so hard for.
“Are you going to deny working with the adorni then?” Ezekiel asked and a few gasps rang out.
“What? What are you talking about?” I asked as my brows furrowed.
“You have been working with the adorni Mikaela. Don't bother denying it. The only thing I want to know is why you would betray your pack and the entire werewolf kingdom by helping the very species which seek to kill us?” His voice rang loud and clear.
What the hell was he talking about?
I stared at him, waiting for him to tell me it was a joke but somehow…I knew this was real.
