Hunter’s pov
I shoved my hands into my pockets as I approached the long cue. I ensured to keep my face blank as I scanned the area.
I can’t recall the last time I saw so many adorni's together in one place.
“This is going to be a waste of time.” One of the hunters in front of me grumbled.
“I doubt it. The Adorni have never called a meeting like this before,” The other hunter retorted just as they stepped forward.
I agreed with the hunter. It was unusual for the adorni to gather hunters in one place. Sheer curiosity had been what had lured me down here, and I was sure a few other hunters felt the same way as well.
It was finally my turn to step into the building and I stepped forward with my hands stretched out, giving the guard access to sniff and search me.
“You can go in,” the man mumbled when he was done with his inspection and I walked through the open door.
I shook my head as I wondered if any wolf would really be stupid enough to come here.
The room was packed with Adorni and my eyes scanned the room for anything unusual. I noted the guards were placed at strategic points with their eyes scanning the room.
Why were there so many guards? Something wasn’t right…
“Thank you all for making it here today,” a voice boomed through the hall and I turned to a huge adorni who was standing on an elevated platform.
The murmurs slowly died down as everyone cast their eyes on the man.
“I’m sure a lot of you are weary about this meeting, but we are all brothers. We have a common purpose and that is to get rid of the werewolves and that is why we are all gathered here today.” The man continued, and I folded my hands in front of my chest as I listened to him.
“We have been searching far and wide for a weapon. Something so powerful that we would be able to defeat the wolves once and for all and finally, we found it.” The adorni declared and murmurs rang out.
“Calm yourselves!” The man stretched out his hand to the crowd and they instantly quieted down.
“There is a ritual, a special ritual which can strengthen us. It will make us stronger beyond your wildest imagination, and we will be able to crush the wolves effortlessly,” the man divulged, and a few hunters cheered while others had a glint in their eyes.
“We shall not divulge the full details now because there might be traitors amongst us,” the adorni added and grumbles rang through the hall.
“How do we know this ritual is actually what you say it is? And why would you share it with us if you aren’t going to tell us exactly how we can use it?” One of the hunters called out to the adorni and the man chuckled.
“For now, you’ll simply have to believe that I would not lie to you, my friend. We have a mole within the werewolf pack feeding us information. When the time is right, the ritual will be revealed to all of you, and we will all fight together.” The adorni announced and whispers broke out.
“A werewolf helping the adorni?”
“He is lying. I knew this was going to be a waste of time.”
The Adorni went on and on about other matters relating to how we could strategize and capture the werewolves together.
When the meeting was finally over, we all filed out of the hall and different thoughts swirled through my mind.
“Don’t sweat it buddy,” Someone slapped a hand on my shoulder and I turned to a hunter who looked a bit older than I was.
“What?” I questioned as I strategically pulled away from him.
“I know that look, I had it when I was much younger than you.” The man chuckled as he pointed at my face.
“What look?” I c****d a brow at him.
“You believed him, didn’t you?” The man asked, and I remained silent.
“It’s a wild goose chase. Don’t waste your time on it,” the man advised.
“I have no idea what you are talking about,” I muttered as I turned away, but the man gripped my hand.
“I was like you when I was much younger. I can see the fire for revenge blazing in your eyes. I can only imagine the story behind that dark demeanor, but I’ll give you a piece of advice and take it from someone who made it his life’s mission to end the wolves. They are just lying for their own benefit.” The man stared me straight in the eyes as he spoke.
“I don’t know what they want or what they are trying to achieve, but the adorni don’t do anything unless they have something greater to gain,” he added and my brows furrowed.
“I might not be able to stop you, but I’ll give you a tip. The silver fang pack is choosing a Luna very soon and the little I know about this so-called ritual involves getting the blood of the wolves,” the man announced, and if his words hadn’t already jumbled my brain, I was definitely confused now.
“How will that?”
“You might find a clue of what you are looking for there.” He cut me off before he let go of my arm and walked away without another word.
Silverfang pack? What did they have to do with anything, and what was I even meant to look for?
I walked away from the building as the man’s words swirled in my mind and I tried to make sense of them.
The blood of wolves? How the hell was I going to get that?
I rubbed a hand over my face as I knew I couldn’t leave until I discovered everything I could.
Madeline’s face flashed in my head, but I pushed it away as I ground my teeth.
