CHAPTER 4

1055 Words
Madeline's pov Four weeks…it had already been four weeks and I was still trapped in this body with no sign of my wolf. “You'll get your memory back Madeline, I promise you will. It was the same for me as well,” Lena encouraged but I merely offered her a small smile. “I feel like I'm losing my mind. I can't feel my wolf,” my voice came out no more than a whisper. “I know. Trust me, I know exactly what you are going through.” Lena comforted as she wrapped her arms around me. Unless Lena had died but somehow found herself in another person's body then I doubt she knew what I was going through or how I was feeling. Who was Madeline? And more importantly where had her wolf gone? The thoughts swirled around in my head until I had a splitting headache and I couldn't take it anymore. “I think I need to take a walk,” I abruptly rose to my feet and Lena followed suit. “Let me just inform Lucas and we can be on our way,” Lena suggested and I knew she was just trying to be there for me and be helpful but it was stifling. “Actually, I think I need to go alone.” I said as politely as I could as she stilled. “I don't think that's a very good-” she began. “I need space Lena, I feel like I'm losing my mind.” I cut her off. “I'll be back before you know it,” I finished off with a tight smile and before she could respond, I walked away. “Going somewhere?” A voice startled me and I turned to Lucas. “I just need to clear my head,” I told him and watched as he approached me. Lucas' eyes scanned my face for a second before he let out a sigh. “There are still ardoni out there. We aren't safe,” he pointed out and I nodded. “I know and I'm going to be careful,” I assured him. He looked like he wanted to protest but thought better of it. Instead, he reached out and tucked a stray strand of hair behind my ear as he stared at me and my cheeks heated. Lucas' eyes on me always get like a caress, it always felt like he was trying to dig deep into my soul. “If you aren't back in the next thirty minutes I'm coming to find you,” he told me and I nodded. I let out a loud sigh when the camp was finally out of sight. I needed to think, I needed answers and I had no clue where to even begin. Lucas and Lena had been nothing but kind to me, trying to help me navigate whatever the hell was going on but it was of no use. I couldn't tell them what was really happening, they would think I had gone mad or merely brush it off to the ardoni attack. I just couldn't risk it. I had to figure this out on my own. I stopped in front of a little lake, enjoying the sound of flowing water and the gentle movements of the trees. I closed my eyes and let out a slow breath as I tried my best to search within me and connect with my wolf. Nothing…I came up with nothing just like every time! “What the hell am I meant to do now?” I screamed as I gripped my hair. I searched within me if I could assess Madeline's wolf but I was met with a solid wall. “I can't live the rest of my life like this,” I whispered as my throat felt clogged and tears stung the back of my eyes. “Trust me, you won't.” A voice startled me and I gasped as I turned and my heart dropped. A huge man towered over me and I stumbled backward as he flashed me a mischievous grin. Adorni! How the hell hadn't I heard him? “What's a little wolf doing all the way out here?” The man asked as he closed the distance between us and my eyes darted around as I tried to find an escape route. How the hell was I going to defend myself? I didn't even have my wolf! “Don't even think about it. Come with me willingly and you won't suffer so much.” He negotiated but we both knew he was lying. He was going to take me back to their territory and they were going to torture me until I gave them information about my pack. The bitter and vengeful part of me wanted to give him all the information he wanted about Ezekiel's pack, my former pack, but there were also innocent wives who could get hurt. “You have no idea how long I've been searching for you Madeline,” the adorni brought me out of my thoughts and my eyes bulged. He knew who I- who Madeline was? “You didn't think I would forget you right? It's not everyday you come by a beautiful and feisty wolf.” The adorni continued and my heart hammered against my chest. That could only mean he was one of the adorni who had captured Madeline before Lucas saved me. Without much thought, I turned on my heels and ran for my life, but I didn't get too far before a body rammed into me from behind and I tumbled forward. I grunted as the adorni had me pinned to the ground in a second and I struggled underneath him, ignoring the crazed look in his eyes. “This is actually disappointing Madeline, you had much more fight in you the last time we met.” He teased, and before I could respond he stabbed me with a little needle and I gasped. My body instantly felt paralyzed, and my eyes became droopy. Fear trickled within me as everything became blurry. “Don't…please do,” I struggled to form words. “Don't you worry Maddy, you are in safe hands.” The adorni taunted and that was the last thing I heard before everything went black.
