His love doesn’t belong to me.

“Mr. Alexis can’t stop looking at you. It seems he’s quite taken with you,” Nick said. “It’s good to know someone’s interested in me,” I said, smiling. “You’re very sarcastic,” he replied with a slight smile. While I was sitting alone at one of the tables, Alexis approached me. “May I have this dance?” he asked, extending his hand for me to take. “I love dancing; I don’t see why I should refuse your offer,” I said with an amused smile. I went to the dance floor with Alexis; we were just dancing to some slow music when suddenly a voice behind me was heard. “Could you please return my wife?” “Of course,” Alexis responded, leading my hand back to Nick’s. Nick took me outside the house, looking angry. “What do you think you’re doing, Alice?” Nick asked angrily. “What do you mean?” “You’re making a fool of me; you’re dancing with another man in front of everyone.” “Oh, sorry. I didn’t think it would bother you that I danced with someone else,” I replied sarcastically. “You need to behave. I bought you as my wife for a reason,” Nick said without any remorse. “Do you think I sold myself to you?” I replied as I started walking toward the street. “Is that not true? I’ll pay you every week to do your job,” Nick responded, trying to be patient. “It’s good to know how you see me.” As I stepped outside, a taxi happened to be passing by—luckily for me. While I got into the car, Nick just watched me with no emotion on his face. Instead of going to the mansion, I went to my mother’s house. I entered with my set of keys. Upon entering, I noticed that no one seemed to be home. I went upstairs and entered my room, stunned. “What does this mean?” I asked loudly. “Alice?” Donna responded. “Little sister, we…” Rafael tried to answer but was left speechless. “I’m waiting for you both in the living room right now,” I said, crossing my arms and closing the door. Ten minutes later, Donna and Rafael were in the living room. “How long have you two been involved?” I asked seriously. “We’ve always been in love; we’ve kept it private,” Rafael replied nervously. “In love? How come I never knew, ‘best friend’?” “Alice, I didn’t know how you would react,” he said, lowering his head. “That’s why, Rafael, you didn’t bring women here, and Donna, that’s why you haven’t talked to me about a boyfriend in a long time. How long have you been together?” I asked, crossing my arms. “We’ve been together for three years,” Rafael answered. “Three years? You’re barely twenty. That means your relationship started when you were seventeen, and you, Donna, were twenty-seven. Do you know you were with a minor?” I couldn’t believe it. “We know what we did, that’s why we’ve kept this secret,” Donna said, crying. “You can’t blame us for loving each other, Alice,” Rafael responded. “Do you really think you love each other?” I asked them both. “I love your brother,” Donna answered. “And I love her,” Rafael replied. “If that’s the case, we need to talk to our mother, Rafael, so she knows and can share her thoughts. Personally, I feel very bad because my supposed ‘best friend’ didn’t trust me.” Suddenly, there was a knock at the door. Knock knock knock. “Who could it be at this hour?” Rafael asked. I went to open the door, and there was Jorge. Looking behind him, I saw Nick sitting in the back seat of a car with the window down. “Mrs. Harrison, your husband has come for you,” Jorge said. “Really?” I was surprised. “We’re waiting for you in the car,” Jorge replied. I closed the door and went back to Donna and Rafael. I told them I had to leave but that we had a conversation pending. I left the house and got into the vehicle without saying a word. We arrived home, and silence remained. I went up to my room and didn’t come out again. It was very late, but I couldn’t sleep, so I decided to work on new designs for my future lingerie collection. I had brought my sewing machine, which was a bit noisy because it was old. I decided to try my new design on myself and see how it looked. Although I didn’t dress sexy, I had a good body without going to the gym. While I was modeling my design in front of the mirror, Nick suddenly entered my room. “Can you stop making so much noise?” he said angrily. “I didn’t think it would bother you, sir,” I replied sarcastically. “What are you doing dressed like that?” he asked without taking his eyes off me. “Oh! I’m preparing for a man who desires me, makes love to me, and then doesn’t insult me,” I replied, continuing to look at myself in the mirror. “Remember you have a contract to fulfill. You’re my wife, and you can’t be prostituting yourself,” he said as he walked toward me. “Don’t worry, sir. I’ll do it in private. I know I’m just another purchase among all the ones you’ve made in your life,” I said, looking at him through the mirror. “What a surprise! I didn’t think you were like that.” “Oh, excuse my honesty,” I answered, smiling. Seeing me laugh, Nick got angry and grabbed my arm. “Are you only looking for s*x, miss?” Nick asked, staring into my eyes. “Why not? A young woman like me would want that, wouldn’t she?” That was all I could think to answer. Nick threw me on the bed and put his body on top of me. “If it’s s*x you want, I’ll give it to you,” he said, staring at me. I couldn’t believe it. “What the hell is going on?” I thought. Nick kissed my lips roughly, removed the only thing he was wearing—his boxer shorts; took off my underwear, and entered me very dominantly. Then suddenly the moment became soft and pleasant; Nick kissed me as if I were the girl he loved. I felt confused but also enjoyed the moment. After making love, Nick got off my bed without saying a word and without looking back. He just left. “This man really is a stranger. He seems tough and cruel, but deep down he must be very kind,” I thought quietly. The next day was Sunday. I got up very early and prepared breakfast. When Nick came down to eat, I was sitting at the table. “Good morning, sir!” I said with a smile on my face. “Good morning,” Nick replied seriously. As soon as he sat down at the dining chair, he started eating. “How do you like today’s breakfast?” I asked Nick. “It’s better than all the other days; it’s really quite good,” he answered without looking up. “I prepared it for you,” I said, swallowing hard as I said those words. “You made this breakfast?” he asked, looking up. “Yes, that’s right. My mother taught me what a married woman should do.” “Don’t bother with me, Alice. I’m not your husband. The only thing that unites us is a piece of paper. And mark this in your mind: I only love one woman, whom I will never forget,” he said, standing up from his chair and leaving. I didn’t respond. Honestly, I felt hurt, but still, you always have to fight for the things you want, and I truly want Nick. A few minutes later, I sat in the living room to call my mother when suddenly my phone rang. “Good morning,” I answered cheerfully. “Good morning, this is Alexis,” said the voice on the other end. “Alexis? How did you get my number?” I asked, surprised. “You know sometimes we get what we want. I just called because I want to be your friend.” “Thank you very much. I don’t mind being your friend.” Suddenly, my phone was snatched from my hands. “My wife does have a problem being your friend. Don’t call again,” Nick replied. “What the hell are you doing, Nick?” I asked angrily. “That guy is one of my greatest enemies. I don’t want you near him,” he said angrily. “He’s your enemy, not mine, so I’ll be his friend whether you like it or not,” I answered Nick. Nick stared at me, clenching his fists.
