Outside the hospital, Miguel and Laura stood by the exit, both gazing toward the doors where Elizabeth was undergoing her final checkup before discharge.
Laura shifted uneasily before breaking the silence. “Miguel, I don’t know if it’s my place to say this, but I feel like Elizabeth might not bring it up. She wouldn’t want to add to your worries,” Laura said.
Miguel turned to her, his expression reassuring. “Come on, Laura. You can always talk to me. What’s on your mind?” he said.
Laura glanced down, gathering her words. “It’s about Elizabeth. I think she really shouldn’t be staying at that house anymore. It’s… it’s too much for her. She’s already traumatized, and being there could just make things worse,” Laura said in her usual soft voice.
