Alice stood abruptly, her hands gripping the edge of the table. Her voice was steady, but desperation tinted her words. “Miguel, sit down. We can work this out and make it work for everybody,” she said.
Miguel turned slowly to face her, his expression cold. “Work this out?” he repeated mockingly. “I have no time to waste, Alice. If you want to make this a legal battle, I’m more than happy to indulge. In the end, it’ll be your loss, not mine.”
Isaac, still seated, shifted uncomfortably. His head was bowed, his silence speaking volumes about the pressure he felt. He finally looked up, meeting Miguel’s gaze briefly before lowering his eyes again.
