Miguel sat in his car parked by the roadside, with Ash seated beside him. The atmosphere was quiet, almost too calm for the weight of what he was about to say.
He turned to her, his tone steady. “I want you to take charge of some of the sensitive cases on my table,” he began. “And in Cole’s absence, I’m putting you in charge of my family."
Ash blinked, startled. “Your family?”
“Yes,” Miguel nodded. “Elizabeth, Max, Lily, and Laura. But when Cole returns, he’ll take over. He and Elizabeth are together. He’s family too.”
Ash gave him a long, lingering look. Her brows furrowed as she tried to read deeper into his words. “You know I’d do anything you ask—whether it’s work or personal—but… why are you telling me this like you’re going somewhere?”
