Saraphina POV
I don't know how long I slept but when I woke up, it felt like I had been asleep for a million years. It was so deep that if someone had carried me out of the room, I would not have noticed.
I let out a low groan as I massaged my forehead, forcing my body to sit up and rest against the bed board. My entire body ached like it had been hammered with an anvil.
I sighed as I remembered what happened last night, how Xavier took me. He was like a beast, yet, as crazy as it sounded, it felt like he still held back a bit, and it made me shudder, as I couldn't imagine what his limit would feel like. Perhaps my legs might split in two? Goodness above, I was definitely never going to sneak out again.
I felt sticky down there and my body felt like it wasn't mine so I carefully climbed down from the bed and headed to the bathroom where I soaked myself in a warm bath. I stayed there for an hour, just allowing my body to melt into the water and when I was done bathing, I wore a comfortable gown and headed downstairs to eat. My stomach had been growling hungrily the entire time.
As I climbed down the stairs, I was praying in my heart not to encounter Xavier because I wasn't sure I would be able to look him in the eyes. Not out of fear, but of embarrassment. Last night unlocked a devilish part of him and I wasn't ready to see that again. Heavens, the life of a breeder truly wasn't exciting and thankfully, I didn't see him. It turned out he went to work early.
In the dining room, I ate as if it were going to be my last meal on earth. I was almost done when Beta Drako walked up to me. “Good morning Saraphina.” His face was straight as always.
My cheeks turned red in embarrassment at his presence as I recalled the previous night. How did he know and lead me to my punishment? “G-good morning.”
He nodded, then stretched an envelope towards me. “The Alpha has asked me to give this to you. Read carefully and sign it if you would like to. I'll be back later to collect it.”
Before I could ask him what was inside the envelope, he turned around and left, leaving me a little overwhelmed. Anything that screamed Xavier's name made me feel anxious so I wasn't surprised when goosebumps started to prickle across my skin. Still, I managed to finish my food and then went back to my room with the envelope.
At first, I just kept the envelope on the bed, scared to open it, then I started to pace around the room, my mind a whirlwind of thoughts. Would I be signing a death contract now or something? What could it all be about?
Finally, after what felt like forever, I slowly opened it. I was shocked by the content inside. Apparently, Xavier was offering me a job in his company. I should be happy but my gut told me that I wouldn't like my job especially because it was in Xavier's company. I read the first half of the contract and realized the name of Xavier's company ‘The Blood Arena’ gave me chills. My job seemed simple and was something I would have loved to do. I was to bake and serve snacks to his guests yet my mind screamed at me to decline the offer. Blood and cake didn't really go well. There were so many words, and though I didn't read through it all, I knew nothing in the contract told me what I was really there for.
“No, I should definitely say no to this. It sounds better to stay bored in this house than to work in Xavier’s ‘blood arena’. I muttered to myself. However, as I looked further down at the paper and saw my salary, my jaw dropped. It was a whopping sum of a hundred thousand dollars. “I can have this for myself just for baking?!”
At this point, every fear disappeared from my body as I started to imagine what I would do with the money. Once I leave this place…that's if I survive, and I get the initial benefits of being Xavier's breeder and add it to this, I would have so much to be able to start a very good life. What could possibly go wrong? And with this, I scribbled my signature on it.
Not long after, Drako came to get it. “Thank you for signing the contract. I'll make sure to send it to Xavier immediately.”
“What? How did you know I signed it?”
“Oh, I didn't. Xavier guessed you would and he is seldom wrong.” Saying this, he walked out of the room leaving me in a very awkward position. If Xavier knew I would sign this, then he had something up his sleeve. My goodness, maybe I should have thought about this very well. However, whenever I remembered the money I would get, my worries would disappear.
Although I didn't want to believe that Xavier cared about me enough to make me stay home for two days before resuming, it felt like it, because even when I told Drako that I was ready, he said Xavier thought otherwise. For a moment, I thought it was because of that night, that he wanted me to rest, but I knew Xavier didn't care about me.
Two days later, I woke up early and started to get dressed for my first day at work. I was already done, when Drako told me that my duty was at night. I was stunned, but tried to brush it off. I should have known better.
And when night came, I got dressed again in a simple t-shirt and jeans…since I was working in the kitchen. Then I went outside to meet Drako. “Good luck on your first day at work.”
I didn't know at that point that I needed it.
