Lilith
I arrived at school and parked my bike. The time was 7:54. So, I had from now and until school was over to find something to do in the meantime. I could take a book from the library and sit on the rooftop while reading. That’s what I should do.
I walked directly through the school and arrived at the library. I looked around and came to the fantasy section. I noticed a book called ‘The Dragon Heir’. I took it out and looked at the back of it. It sounded pretty okay. And it was a thick book. So it might last until the end of school. I then started walking towards the stairs to the roof. One of the teachers saw me and stopped me in the hallway.
“Lilith, you know that there is a school uniform rule! So why in God’s name, are you wearing something like that?!” she squealed. This was one of the teachers that I rarely had. Because the ones I had regularly knew that I didn’t care about the rules of the school.
I looked at her for a bit and then turned around and walked towards the stairs.
“Lilith! Do not ignore me like that!” she yelled after me. I kept walking.
I was sitting on the roof of the building, reading the book I had borrowed. I sat reading without putting the book down for hours. It was like I was living through the book.
The book was about a young dragon princess, who was the heir of the dragon kingdom. But one day, a plague spread through the kingdom and killed everybody except for her. She then had to travel around the world to find an artifact that could turn back time so she could find a cure, and save her kingdom and its people before the plague claimed all those innocent lives.
When I finally put the book down, the sun was setting. It was currently in the middle of November and the sun usually set already at the end of school. I looked at my phone and the clock was 14:39. I sat and stared into the sunset until school was over.
The time was 15:05 when I walked out towards my bike. Today was one of my rare days off from work. So I could just go home and do nothing.
I could go to a bookstore and buy a new book. I have already read all of the 67 books in my collection. I got on my bike and put on the helmet.
I drove to the bookstore that I frequented. I entered the store and the cashier - Hallie - noticed me.
“Ah, hello again, Lilith!” she said with a smile.
“Hello.”
“Are you looking for something specific today?”
“Well, if you could help me find a new fantasy book, I would appreciate it.”
“Yes, of course. Please come this way.” Hallie said, and walked towards the fantasy section. We stood talking about fantasy books for about an hour before we finally found a book that I hadn’t read. I bought the book and started heading home.
I unlocked the door to the apartment and entered. I took off my jacket and boots. As I walked into the living room, Dante was sitting watching TV.
“Hey Lilith,” he said and turned his head.
“Hey Dante.” I answered and walked closer to the couch and started watching the program with him. It was a cooking program, since Dante loved cooking.
“Here,” Dante said, and reached a small yellow piece of paper towards me. I took it and looked at it. It was a number.
“Her name is Ophelia, and she said that you could just text her or call her. I also wrote down her working hours on the paper so you know when not to call. Have fun.”
“Thanks.” I said and walked into my room. I put my book down on my bedside table and picked up my phone. I dialed the number and started a new text message.
Hey.
My name is Lilith, and I am a friend of Dante. He mentioned that you were looking for a girlfriend, so I was wondering if we could talk and see if we hit it off with each other.
After writing the text, I pressed send and picked up my book. The book I had bought was about a young werewolf who was abandoned and had to survive on her own. She then builds a giant electronic empire and becomes a billionaire. After she became a billionaire, her pack then contacts her and starts talking about how she has to contribute to the pack, since she is still a part of the pack. I don’t know any more because that was all that was mentioned on the back.
My phone vibrated, and I put the book down. I unlocked my phone and looked at the response I had gotten.
Hello Lilith.
I’m Ophelia and I think it is a good idea that we get to know each other. So I was wondering if we could go out to eat one day and talk face to face. I would love to get to know you better.
Love, Ophelia.
I kept reading the response over and over again. So she already wanted to meet. Something told me that she wasn’t looking for a girlfriend, but maybe just a one-night stand or something like that instead. I didn’t really feel like getting in a serious relationship right now, but if it was just a one-night hook-up, then that might be for the better.
Sure. I know a pretty good spot in the city. It’s just a cafe, but their food is pretty good. And it is almost always pretty empty, so it is a good place to talk.
Which days would fit you best? I am free after 3 pm and before 8pm Monday-Friday, and from 11 am to 5 pm Saturday-Sunday. You can pick which day and time fits you the best and then I will follow along.
I pressed send and while waiting for a response, I was already imagining that she was like some of my previous girlfriends. Of course, I don’t know yet, but there’s always a possibility.
I opened my book and kept reading.
