“What do you mean, it’s not necessary?” Cody asked.
“I’ll be on my own team,” I answered. Some of the girls around me started giggling and some of the guys chuckled in response to my answer.
“Well, if you insist. The first runners go to the startline!” People walked over to the start of the track. I walked over to my starting spot and started stretching my body. The guy next to me - Cairo - looked at me and then started chuckling and whispering to the people next to him. I just ignored them.
One thing that I was confident in was my speed and stamina. I have really long legs, and I have been training my stamina for the past 3 years. I’ve also trained sprinting for long periods of time.
“Get ready!” Cody yelled. I bowed down and put my fingertips on the ground.
“Set!” I bent my knees.
“Go!” As soon as he said that, I pushed off and got a big lead on the others. I hadn’t even been sprinting yet, but I was already slowly pulling ahead of everybody else. I quickly ran the whole lap. I was about one third of a lap ahead of the others. I noticed that Cairo was sprinting to try and catch up with me. I wasn’t even panting when I finished my first lap. Compared to the others, I was holding out pretty well.
When I was about to finish my second lap, I saw Talia standing ready to run next. We made eye contact, but instead of quickly looking away like all other people did, she held my gaze. I redirected my focus to running again and ran past her.
I ended up finishing the race well ahead of the others. I didn’t even need to sprint. Cody was surprised, but tried not to show it too much.
It was now time for basketball.
“Alright, let’s move onto basketball. Divide yourselves into two teams: a male team and a female team. Then, from there, we will create multiple teams with equal people in them.” Cody explained. I walked over to Cody.
“I will not be participating in this activity,” I said. He looked at me for a second and then nodded.
“Fine. Go run 20 laps around the field. That should make you use enough time and energy until the others are done with basketball.” I nodded and started walking over to the race track.
As I stood stretching, I looked over at the others. Or more specifically: Talia. She was smiling and laughing with the other girls. She also had dimples. She looked really cute when she smiled. I turned back around and started running.
I had also noticed that Talia was pretty short. Compared to me at least. She was probably around 5,6 feet tall. I had also realized that I was really interested in Talia. Considering that I don’t really care about other people, I sure spent a lot of time thinking about and looking at her.
After running my laps, I had started sweating a little bit. The others were also done playing basketball. I started walking back towards the main school building. The bell started ringing, signifying that school was now over. Which was about time.
I entered the classroom and fetched my bag and jacket. As I walked out of the classroom, I bumped into someone. I looked down and saw Talia.
“I’m sorry.” She apologized. I noticed that she had a hint of an accent in her voice. It sounded like some Spanish. I stood still for a second and then started walking again. While I was walking from school to my bike, my phone vibrated a couple of times. I pulled it out of my pocket and looked at the texts I had gotten from Ophelia.
Hey
I was a little occupied with some things and then forgot to answer your text. I work right now as a fashion designer for a small clothing company called ‘Liralia’. It is a clothing company that sells clothes for curvy women. I can tell you more about it on Saturday, if you want to hear about it.
I asked her what she worked as a couple of days ago.
What are you doing right now? Working? School? Or something else entirely?
I started writing a response.
I am going to school right now while working 2 jobs to take care of myself. I work as a bartender in a club and I also clean at a hotel from time to time.
If you don’t mind me asking, what is your ideal partner?
After sending the text, I put on my helmet and got onto my bike. I arrived home a couple of minutes later and I entered the apartment. As I entered the kitchen, Orion came into view. He was cleaning the dishes. We had an agreement that I shop, Dante cooks, and Orion does the dishes and cleans up after meals and such. It worked pretty well. Dante loves cooking and is great at it. I hate it, and Orion can’t cook for the life of him.
He heard me come in and turned around.
“Hey Lils. What have you been up to today?” he asked and smiled. He had black hair, brown eyes and brown skin.
“School,” I answered.
“Boring! I heard from Dante that he gave you the number of one of his girlfriends. Have you chatted with her?”
“Yeah. We decided to meet up on Saturday and get to know each other, and see if we like each other. I just don’t know if I’m ready for a serious relationship,” I mumbled.
“Hmm, well. You can just see if she is something for you, and if not, then just don’t date her. You could also just say that you are only looking for a one-night stand. Unless you’ve said something else, of course.”
“…Yeah.”
“Is something wrong?”
“No, everything’s fine. I’ll go to my room. See ya.” I said and walked over to my room.
