Nine days had passed with no significant word from Hunter. He’d texted nonsense stuff from the road, and over the weekend as well, mentioning how busy he was. He did say he would call after his trip. Rachel was secretly hoping he would want to see her; she could call a babysitter after all. They were supposed to go to San Francisco this weekend—three days away.
