Blurb

Kaelen Blackthorne stood alone on a balcony overlooking the Blackthorne lands. The wind tugged at his dark coat.Below, thousands of pack members slept peacefully within the valley he had spent centuries protecting.A kingdom built from sacrifice.A legacy forged through blood.Everything he had fought to preserve still stood.Yet none of it mattered.Because the Final Moon was coming.Soon.Very soon. And the beast was winning.Kaelen gripped the stone railing until it cracked beneath his fingers.Golden eyes flashed briefly in the darkness. His nails lengthened into claws. For a moment, he felt the wolf pressing against the inside of his skin.Hungry.Restless.Waiting.He forced it back.Barely.The effort left him exhausted. The curse had never been this strong before.Never this close. The witch's prophecy echoed through his memory."If she willingly accepts the bond before the Final Moon, the curse will break."Three centuries.Three hundred years searching every corner of the world. And he still had not found her.His mate. His salvation. His impossible hope.A bitter laugh escaped him.Perhaps fate had a cruel sense of humor.Perhaps she did not exist at all. Then a strange scent drifted through the night air.Kaelen froze. His heartbeat stopped. The world seemed to narrow to a single moment.A single breath.A single impossible scent.Warm.Sweet.And undeniably familiar.Something deep inside him stirred. Not the beast.Something older.Something sacred. The mating bond. His eyes widened. For the first time in three hundred years, hope ignited within his chest.Somewhere beyond the forest.Beyond the valley.Beyond the safety of his lands. She existed. And fate had finally brought her within reach.Kaelen stared into the darkness. The wolf inside him awakened. Not with hunger. Not with rage. But with certainty."Mine."The Final Moon was coming. And everything was about to change.

Prologue
The night the curse was born, the moon bled. Kaelen Blackthorne remembered every detail. He remembered the cold wind that swept through the mountain pass. He remembered the scent of pine and snow carried across the valley. He remembered the cries of dying wolves echoing through the darkness. Most of all, he remembered the woman. Even after centuries, her face remained etched into his memory. The battlefield stretched beneath a crimson moon, painted in blood and fire. Warriors lay scattered across the frozen ground. The ancient war between rival packs had reached its terrible end. Kaelen had been young then. Too young to be Alpha. Too proud to listen. Too arrogant to fear consequences. His father, Alpha Theron Blackthorne, had fallen before sunset. By moonrise, Kaelen stood alone at the center of the battlefield, surrounded by enemies and ghosts. Victory had come at a terrible price. And he had demanded more. "I will not lose everything." His voice had echoed through the ruined valley. The old witch stood before him, draped in silver robes stained with ash and blood. Her pale eyes reflected the crimson moon above. Around them, surviving wolves watched in silence. Even then, they feared her. "Death has claimed what is hers," the witch warned. "You cannot bargain with fate." Kaelen stared at the bodies scattered across the battlefield. His father's body. His brothers. His friends. His pack. The grief was unbearable. The rage even worse. "There must be a way," he said. "There is always a way." The witch's expression darkened. "Not every path should be walked." But Kaelen was beyond reason. He was grieving. Broken. Desperate. And desperate men often mistook warnings for challenges. "Tell me." The witch remained silent for a long moment. The wind howled through the valley. Above them, the blood-red moon seemed to watch. Finally, she spoke. "There is an ancient ritual." The surviving wolves exchanged uneasy glances. No one interrupted. No one dared. "The ritual can preserve what remains of your bloodline." Hope flared inside Kaelen's chest. "But every gift demands payment." "What payment?" The witch looked directly into his eyes. Her gaze held something that felt disturbingly close to pity. "Your future." The words should have frightened him. Instead, he laughed. At nineteen, immortality seemed impossible to lose. At nineteen, the future felt endless. "What do I care about the future?" he asked. The witch sighed. For a moment, she looked incredibly old. "Then listen carefully, young wolf." The valley fell silent. Even the wind seemed to stop. "If you invoke this power, your soul will become bound to the moon itself." Silver light began gathering around her fingertips. Ancient symbols burned into the frozen earth. "You will live far longer than any ordinary wolf." Kaelen felt excitement stir within him. "You will grow stronger." The symbols glowed brighter. "You will become one of the most powerful Alphas this world has ever known." The surviving wolves stared in awe. But the witch's voice turned colder. "Yet every year, the beast inside you will grow hungrier." The excitement vanished. Kaelen frowned. "What does that mean?" The moonlight surrounding them pulsed. "The wolf and the man exist in balance." The witch stepped closer. "This ritual breaks that balance." A chill crawled down Kaelen's spine. Slowly. Inevitably. The danger began to reveal itself. "One day," the witch continued, "the beast will become stronger than the man." Silence. "The day that happens, you will lose yourself forever." Kaelen swallowed. "And how do I stop it?" The witch's expression softened. "Love." The answer caught him completely off guard. "Love?" "A true mate." The moonlight brightened. "Not simply a woman." "Not desire." "Not companionship." The symbols surrounding them burned silver-white. "The one soul the moon has destined for yours." Kaelen stared. The witch continued. "If she willingly accepts the bond before the Final Moon, the curse will break." "And if she doesn't?" The witch looked toward the blood-red moon hanging overhead. For the first time, genuine sorrow entered her voice. "Then the man will die." The valley seemed to darken. "The beast will remain." No one spoke. The surviving wolves stood frozen. Even Kaelen felt uncertainty creeping into his heart. But then he looked around. At the dead. At the destruction. At the future of his shattered pack. And he made his choice. "I accept." The witch closed her eyes. "As I feared you would." The ritual began. Moonlight erupted across the battlefield. Ancient power surged through Kaelen's body like liquid fire. Pain unlike anything he had ever known tore through him. His scream echoed across the mountains. The earth trembled. The moon blazed. And the curse was born.
