God, I was happy to finally seeing the driveway to the house that was to be our home. I had over heard that Mom was getting the dream home that she had always wanted that dad had refuse to give her. So seeing it for the first time I could see why she had pick this home for it. It had everything that we needed. We actually had a yard. I couldn’t wait to talk mom into letting me put up or make a basketball court somewhere, and making a place for Remington to practice hitting and catching here for baseball, helping Solene achieve a faster time in swimming. Mom had made sure there was something here for all of us.
That’s how she was. She thought about everyone but herself. She didn’t think we knew how hard she had it living with Dad but we did. I don’t know how many times Remington had to talk me down from me trying to go yell at Dad when we could hear him talk down to her about something she did or didn’t do. Usually it had to do with Mom trying to get him to do more with us as a family. He was usually off doing his own thing while mom made sure to do everything she could for us. If it had been up to dear old Dad, none of us would have been in any sports or went anywhere at all. He was a selfish man.
Mom didn’t like us putting him down but we were better off without him. To me it wasn’t much different than it is now. It’s not like we seen him all that much. He chose to stay at work or go out doing things without us.
“This is all ours, Mom?” Remington asked while leaning forward. A smile spread across mom’s face while replying, “Yes, it is!” We both turned towards each other, seeing in each other’s eyes that we had the same thought and jumped out while mom was turning into the drive way and race towards the pond. Not stopping to think I jumped right in. Coming up for air realizing that Remington must had jumped at same time I had too cuz he was right next to me laughing. “King, did you see that there is a basketball court over there?” Spinning around to see where RJ was looking at cuz I hadn’t seen it. Sure enough there behind the pound was a court and what looked like a dirt baseball field. “She thinks of everything, doesn’t she?” Remington just nodded his head.
“Where’s Solene at?” I asked when I noticed she wasn’t with us. Laughing Remington responded “Where do you think? She fell asleep an hour ago.” Ugh this couldn’t do. She had to be here with us. It wasn’t right, to leave her out of all the fun that we could be having. “Solene get out of that car before I came get you out” I screamed back at the car. I could hear Mom laughing while she was looking into the back seat. She must of been trying to wake Solene up already. “You know she won’t wake up for Mom.” Ever since the divorce Solene has been upset with mom. Mom has been taking all the blame for everything that Dad had done, so that we wouldn’t be mad at him. Which RJ and I thought was dumb but hey what can you do with parents. They do what they want to do right. Mom and Solene were taking too long so I pulled myself out of the pond and took off after her. Remington stayed floating in the water where it was nice and cool. It was so beautiful here I wouldn’t have left either if I didn’t have to drag our sister out of sleep to enjoy it with us.
Walking up to the car with a big smile on my face because I just got the best idea in the world. Solene always slept like the dead so I knew I would snatch her up and toss her in the water without her even realizing she left the car. About the time I got the idea I head mom say “King, you know she will kill you!” I don’t know how she always knew what we were thinking but I couldn’t deny what I was going to do so I just laughed swooped down and grabbed Solene and took off back toward the pond.
Getting to the edge of the pond, I asked “Ready to help her after she hits the water?” Laughter bubbled up from Remington as he nodded that he was ready. I counted to 3 and let her fly. She screamed after she came up out of the water. “I can’t believe you would toss me in while I was sleeping,” Solene screamed. Remington bobbed laughing close to her to make sure she was okay when she was tossed in, “SJ, you are always sleeping so when would have been the right time. She turned murderous eyes on him and she swam toward the shore to get to King who was lying on the ground laughing. “I’m going to kill you King!” I jumped up laughing and waited for the perfect time to jump over her back into the water when she got closer to me. I knew that she would eventually get me back but it was well worth it.
