Chapter 6: Meeting Eira

3000 Words
~Chief Calder~ Tonight's the night Saga said she would tell me what was going on. She asked me to follow her into the woods where we saw that unbelievably larger wolf. She looked so nervous, I wanted to console her, but she kept walking a bit faster and away from me. I became worried, was this going to be too much for her? I glanced at her body language, she was holding her arms close to her chest, her eyes became clouded with water in them. I can tell there is a fighter in her, yet this man who broke her heart also broke her spirit. She remained quiet the entire day, not chancing a glance at anyone. Even Torsten couldn't cheer her up, he's usually a great kid to have around for that. What ever is worrying her, I have to keep calm and trust in what she is doing. "It has to be exactly midnight. How long do we have?" She asked, though her voice seemed distant as if she was expecting something terrible to happen. "I do believe a few hours. It's 9 pm by the light of the moons location." I answered her as I looked up. "Then, this is the perfect time to explain. I will understand if you hate me or even kill me." Kill her?! Why would I do a thing like that?! She's too beautiful to lose. She's strong, independent and will be a great asset to the clan. "Why would I kill you?" If I wasn't worried before, I am now. Why would she say such things? She took a breath in, "Calder, what I am about to discuss with you must stay between us. If you kill me, then I won't have to live knowing 2 men I have once loved and lost hate me." She started to cry. "The pain of rejection from one was enough to shatter me." Her betrothed hurt her so badly that if I don't accept, she'd rather die? "Saga, you're not making any sense." I had to get her to speak plainly. She fell the the ground, "I can't... I love you, Calder. Have since I laid my eyes on you." She covered her face, "If you reject me, please kill me. The pain will be unbearable." She loved me? It's only been roughly 3 weeks since she came here. I'll admit I have grown feelings for her too, I have made her spend her time with me. "Saga..." I placed my fur over her. "I will keep an open mind. I have feelings for you too, please don't talk about death when you're with me." I knelt down to her and lifted her chin to meet my gaze. She looked devastated, but she also gave a nod. I saw her breathing in and out, "Calder, do you know what a Werewolf is?" A Werewolf? I shook my head. "This is going to be harder to explain." Hearing her whispered. I noticed that she does that a lot. "Calder, a Werewolf is when a human turns into a wolf. I know it sounds ridiculous and even mythical." It didn't sound possible. "Well, I am... One." She looked away from me. "I come from a pack of Werewolves. What Geir said? I was going to take the rank of Gamma. It was tradition for the oldest to take the positions passed in their families." This information was undeniably unbelievable, I started to laugh. "Saga, that's not possible. A human cannot simply turn into an animal." That was preposterous, so much so that I fell on the ground laughing. "You said you would keep an open mind!" She shouted. It was a bit frightening, like before, I could have sworn I heard growling from her. "You know what? Just forget it!" She grunted, "I tried to put my trust in you and you're laughing at me!" I got up from the snow covered ground. She was right, I did say I would keep an open mind. I calmed myself and looked at her. "You're right, I apologize for the misconduct of my behavior." I turned her to face me again, "You have to see it from my side too, it's outlandish and sounds like the stretch of a child's imagination." She crossed her arms and glared at me. I didn't like that, feeling like I was a child myself and getting scolded by my mother. "All I mean is, it's odd to hear about a creature no one has ever heard of." I felt like the asshole now, why does she effect me like this? "No human has heard of. I am not human and I have met some other peoples that were beyond the human understanding." Softening her eyes and posture, she takes a deep breath in and out. "I was born into the pack on the Saana mountain, my leader was the Alpha of said pack. Hakon." "Again that's the wolf you sent away." "That was no ordinary wolf. Did you notice his size?" "He was bigger than the average wolf, I'll admit." "What about the claw marks? The blood?" I nodded. "The blood was from my sister Kali." I had to blink a few times. "I know her scent because I am a Werewolf and her oldest sister. The claw marks were from Geir. He was trying to get to me. The question of why still remains." "Geir? The man you ordered away?" "He's not human either. I wish I could explain this better, but I can't. When the moon reaches it's highest peak in the sky, I will show you what I am." We both looked towards the sky. It's not near there yet. "Where I once lived, I had a wonderful pack who loved me and my sisters. There we had a ranking system. Hakon is the Alpha, next to him would be his Beta, I was to be his Gamma and below me is his Delta. Omega's are the lowest rank and more common than the titled wolves. Hakon was also supposed to be my mate." That last part looked like it broke her heart. "What is a 'mate'?" "To us, they are like a forever partner. 2 souls destined to be together by a deity we call The Moon Goddess. She gifts us with our mates. Mates who are supposed to love, cherish and devote our lives to. Females bear the children and provide the fighting skills for when our packs are attacked. Whether that'd be from rogue wolves or other packs to expand their territory. The four ranking members, however, defend outside the packs too." Wait, if this goddess gifted them with their life partners, and this Hakon was supposed to be Saga's, then why bring her to me? "Is Hakon the one you told me who rejected you?" She slipped back onto the ground. "Yes. My mate, my one love made for me. Not only did he reject me, he banished me from my home. My life. My family." I may not believe that she is this Werewolf, but the hurt in her eyes made my blood boil. Fury was taking over. If this is true, then he came back to claim her after he dismissed her. No, I won't allow it. She is part of my clan now. "Well, he can't have you. Wolf or no, you're part of my clan now." I took her hand and lifted her from the ground. Her hand was soft and fit perfectly in mine. I pulled her into me and wrapped my arms around her. "You said you love me, am I part of your life now?" She wrapped her arms around me. "You're my second chance. I'm afraid you won't accept my wolf too." She wasn't lying, her body was shaking. "Calm." She and I stayed like this until the moon reached it's full peak. When I felt her let go, it almost left me with an emptiness. She started taking off her dress and undergarments. Like a decent man, I looked away in the opposite direction. "Calder, you're about to meet Eira. She is my wolf and is equally as big as Hakon's wolf. Just don't be afraid of her." I heard her footsteps get a little further away. Once they stopped, the sounds of breaking bones and her screams made me turn around. It was there that I stood face to face with a wolf with black as night fur and eyes that mimicked the moon. I had to swallow my fear and trust in what Saga told me. ~Saga's P. O. V.~ He was afraid of me, I knew it. He'll reject me. I laid on my stomach and whined at his feet. I am hoping this will show him that I mean him no harm. I watched him slowly come to me. I flattened my ears and closed my eyes, thinking he'll behead me. He surprised me by placing a hand on my head. "Saga?" I whimpered to him. "This is incredible. A Werewolf, you say?" I lightly thumped my tail. He lightly smiled. "Are you born a wolf or made into one?" I lifted my paw and planted on print into the snow. "Born as, huh?" He sat down next to my head, I couldn't help it, I placed it in his lap. "You mentioned that I am your second chance." I slightly wagged my tail. "Why would he reject you? You're gorgeous, kind and you probably have the strength of many a men. It doesn't make any sense to me." I stopped my tail and curled it into my side, flattening my ears and whimpering. "Judging by this response, you don't know why either." I wish I did, not one but two passion kisses before a rejection. He started petting my head. "The first one nearly killed you didn't it?" I snuggled my head into his neck. "That's why you've been keeping to yourself." He started stroking my ears. It honestly felt nice. "I won't reject you, Saga. I am asking that you give me time to process this." I couldn't help but whimper. "Easy there, I want to build our relationship, is all I meant. You did say you were raised by your pack, this mate information is new to me. Us humans build up the love we have for one person. I won't deny that I feel a pull to you. I will accept you in time, make no mistake on that." I perked my ears and looked into his eyes, "Because, Miss. Saga, I want you to be mine. If Hakon ever comes back for you, I will not let him take you." He hugged my head. "I also am very intrigued in your wolf." I licked his face. "Can I talk to you not in wolf form?" He chuckled. "It's hard to understand you." I stood from him and retracted Eira from my mind. It hurt still. "Her name is Eira." He was blushing beat red. I noticed where his eyes were. "Oh, I guess humans aren't as... Um... Comfortable with being naked around each other." I got up and grabbed my clothing, once they were back on, I went back to Calder. "Wolves let each other see?" He sounded shocked. "Well, when we shift, sometimes we shred our clothes off and then there's just no point in trying to hide." I saw him process this new information. "In front of me, it's fine." He stood and pulled me into his strong hold of a hug. "Not in front of others." He sounded dangerous, I couldn't help my smile. I love hearing how protective he sounded. "Has any human become a wolf?" I pulled back from him. "I do not know. If they had, it wasn't recorded in my pack." "Which is no longer yours. You belong to us now." He placed his forehead on mine. "You belong to me now." He place his hand gently on my neck. "Saga." "Yes?" "Will you be mine?" My heart began pounding, my voice got caught in my throat. I squeaked out, "Yes." Eira was howling in joy. Our moment of joy was disrupted by another growl. Though this didn't come from a wolf. "You really meant it, sister?" Kali came out from the shadows. "You would really declare war on us?!" I let go of Calder. "Not on you or Thyra." "This is the youngest of you three?" Calder asked. I noticed Kali's arm was stitched up and in bandages. "Kali?! That's where the blood came from?" I tried to rush over to her but she slapped me. "Did we mean nothing to you?!" She screamed. "I saw that acceptance!" She looked passed me to Calder. "As I understand it, Miss. Kali, her previous mate rejected her, it shattered her. Then had the audacity to banish her." Kali didn't wait for me to respond before she attacked him. "You don't know the reasons!" She screamed. I had to stop in between them. Before she could reach him, I knocked her back. "What reasons?!" I yelled at her. I turned to her and started growling at her. "And how do you know them, little sister?" I could feel Eira coming to the surface. "Um..." She started backing down. "He had to reject you... The previous alpha threatened to kill you if he didn't. And... The banishment? He also told Hakon to do that." He did what?! Eira had fully surfaced. I could feel my shift for the second time tonight. Eira was snarling. "E-Eira." She was cowering before my wolf. You better tell Hakon and his father that if I see them near this place, I will rip them apart. "B-b-but, sister, you're only Gamma ranked." I am not your sister right now. I am Eira! The rogue wolf that will take Felmen's head! She let out a terrible howl of fury. "Again, sister, you're only one wolf!" Eira had her backed into a tree. "NOT IF I HAVE ANYTHING TO SAY!" A loud booming voice came from the heavens. Eira bowed to this along with Kali. "I warned him not to interfere!" Oh, dear. Eira must have called her down. "Indeed she did, Saga." A blinding white light shown through the forest. When the light faded, I saw the most beautiful woman standing before the three of us. White glowing long hair, one eye that was blue and the other dark. Her skin was pale and fair. I saw her look to Calder. "Young one, I am The Moon Goddess. I have paired you with my daughter for a reason." She looks to me, "I have visited Hakon and warmed him to stop pursuing you. It seems my warning fell on deaf ears. Saga," She walked up to me and looked deep into my eyes, "I hope you are prepared for what you have declared." She made a rhyme. "Kali," She turned to my sister, "I suggest you return home and give your report Felmen himself." She turned back to me, "You shall be the first wolf I will bless. Be ready, Saga Berkanan, this will indeed hurt, my child." She turned her attention to Calder once again. "Calder, you had asked my daughter if there have been any humans had been turned to Werewolves. The answer, my new son, is no." His eyes went wide. "Your new son?" He asked. "Yes, if Saga were to bite you on the neck and inject her venom, you would be the first turned human if you so chose. I will not spare you the details, it will be painful. Several days of pain as your own wolf forms. You may come out stronger than you are now. However, you would also become immortal." I could never ask him to do that, we just talked about being a couple only a few moments ago. "All this talk with wolves has given my head a spin. I just found out Saga is a creature I have never heard of, I saw her wolf, who is majestic as all Valhalla, seeing her last mate and sister in a matter of a week and meeting you. This is a lot to handle. And then being told Saga would be the blessed wolf; having no idea what that means, and finally, having been told that I would be the first human to be a Werewolf should I choose it." Calder was right, that is so much to handle, I felt terrible. "Saga, it's not your fault." He came to my view. "I am starting to get the whole wolf body language. Your ears were back." That made me feel worse. He put a hand on my shoulder and faced The Moon Goddess. "I appreciate the warnings, your grace. If or when I decide to join Saga and her wolf as one of her kind, then I will." I looked at my goddess and saw the biggest smile spread across her face. "That is what I foresaw. Take care, my darlings." She gave a sad smile to Kali. "You and Thyra have a choice yourselves. Stay with Hakon and fight with them, leave and help your sister, or be a neutral party and serve no one." Those were her final words before she disappeared into a bright light and shot back into the stars. "I will do what the Moon Goddess says. Saga? Don't come back to the pack. If she's right, Felmen will try to kill you." She left the area. After I couldn't smell her anymore, my body began burning. The pain was too intense it made me revert to human form. It started with me screaming, then the thrashing. Calder had picked me up, but doing that made my body turn to fire. I couldn't hear Calder, all of my senses were being blocked out. I couldn't breathe, I couldn't see or hear. I felt like I was swimming in darkness for a long time.
