Chapter 9: Threats & Warnings

1513 Words
~Saga's P. O. V.~ Calder and I were talking about him becoming a werewolf. I hated that he wanted to become one of us. Humans shouldn't be immortal. Then again, if I were in his shoes, I would ask my mate to join him. I fear for his people too. He told me that he could turn the whole village and we would be a new pack. I don't know if that frightens me or if I really did want that. He was helping me train with his other warriors. Some were getting hits in here and there. I would return their strikes doubly and had them fall on their asses. I missed training. It felt good to get some of that pent up energy out. I want to talk to The Moon Goddess again tonight if she hears me, that is. Can I turn him? I know she said that it was his choice, but what about how I felt? It would mean that we would have to turn the rest of the villagers. Our peace would be filled with screams. While lost in deep thought, I got struck with a fist to my face. "Slowing down my lady?" I got up and wiped the blood from my mouth. I gave a huff. "Oh, please. You hit like a toddler." I smiled at him. "Come on, Onahein. Hit me again." Onahein was a good man. And strong for a human. "Don't blame me if you pass out, my lady." We traded blow for blow. People were gathering and watching. I think this may have turned into a sparring match. Oh, well. Whenever he went low, I went low. I could predict his movements a little. Getting a few lucky shots. The last hit he got was unfortunately his last. I hit him in the groin. Hearing him squeal and go down was absolutely funny. In a very high pitched hoarse voice, he spoke to me. "That was not nice." Hearing him groan was my victory. I held out my hand to him. "Battle isn't nice. Your enemies will take advantage wherever they can." I helped him up. "'Tis true, my lady." He was holding his stomach. I looked around. "Back to work, you loafers." They all scrambled and went back to their trades. Calder was leaning against the fence of the arena. He had a hard expression. He motioned for me to follow him. I put Onaheim down and went to my mate. He didn't say anything as we went into the grand hall. He sat in his chair and had me sit in his lap. Banging his head against the back of it. He handed me a letter. "What is this?" I opened the letter. "It seems that you have been the talk of every human village within 300 miles." I was starting to read the letter. "The hell?! Marriage proposals? Trades for me? Why?" He handed me another letter. "This one is from your previous Alpha." I opened the letter with haste. "It seems that you have found your way into the world of humans, Saga." I began reading the letter out loud. "If humans is what you want, then so be it. I will make arrangements for you to have a human. It's what you deserve, after all. Forever yours, Felmen of the Saana Mountains." I crumpled the letter and threw it into the fire. Along with the other letter. "We say nothing to our clan, Calder." I looked at him. He shook his head. "Saga. He means it. You need to change everyone before he finds you with me." I scoffed and hit the beam of the hall. "You are asking too much of me." He got off his chair and came to me. "Am I? To me, it sounds like you're scared." I pushed him against another pillar. "I am scared! I don't know what my venom is going to do to you." I knew I was crying. "I don't want to lose you to the change." He pulled me into an embrace. His head on my shoulder. "I know you don't. But what if he finds you here? Torsten, me, and the other villagers will be put in danger. And that scares me." I gave into his embrace and returned it. I should tell him. "Do you want to come with me to talk to her again? I was going to ask the Moon Goddess to guide me." He leans back and smiles. Kissing me on my forehead. "I will gladly come with you." I nodded and held onto him for some time. Humans and Felmen? This feels rather unfair. "When shall we greet your goddess?" I shook my head. "Tonight, after everyone has retired for the evening." He took a breath in and let it out harshly. "You know this means war, right?" I nodded. "Saga. You will have to turn me if we can't prevent it." I buried my face into his chest. "I know. And I will do what I can in order to keep you from dying from my venom." His hold on me got tighter. We stayed silent for a few more moments. Moon Goddess. Please. Please help me tonight. "I love you, Saga." I looked up at him. My eyes went wide. "I love you too." It was the first time he said it to me. It made me happy. I didn't want to let him go. He was my stable home. He leaned down and kissed me lightly. I kissed him back. "We are warriors, Saga. We fight to live. And I am fighting for you now." His lips met mine again. "Let's face our enemies, then. Head on." I closed my eyes and felt his forehead touch mine. "We will be victorious. I will make sure of it." We let each other go and looked outside. People's houses were lit with candles and their trades shut down for the night. That is when we knew it was safe. I took his hand and led him outside of the village. When we got far enough away, I stripped to shift. Somehow, I think the wolf spirit is closer to our goddess than we are. I started the shift. It hurt less this time. It still hurt, just less. When I was on all four paws, I looked up to the moon. Eira: I will ask for her. Me: Thank you, Eira. Eira: Anything to keep our mate safe. She closed our eyes and howled up at the moon. Her voice carried throughout the forest. Waking up the small birds and other woodland creatures. She kept howling for what seemed like hours. I was almost sure that we couldn't reach her. Until a blinding white light came down. Eira was bowing to her with her head down. "My goodness, child. So many questions." She laughed. "I assure you, Saga and Eira, that he will survive your venom. I made it so.. Do you not listen?" Calder stood from where he sat and came to me. "You know her as well as I do, your grace. She is stubborn." That made the moon Goddess giggle. "That she is. Saga. Sweetheart. I am giving you permission to turn him and the rest of your village into wolves. They were destined to be wolves. Does that help?" Eira and I looked up at her. She was smiling down at us. Yes, Moon Goddess. Forgive me for doubting. "Oh, posh. I am a goddess. What else do I have going on?" She made Eira stand. "My daughters, my son, take that step. It is time. How long are you going to wait?" Calder leaned against me. "I kept telling her that. It's been what? 5 months?" He stroked my fur, making Eira purr in joy. "If The Moon Goddess says it's time, then it's time." I turned our head and licked his face. "When we get back, you are biting me." The Moon Goddess held up her hand. "Just a moment." She shrunk to human size. "Calder. Since you are taking the mantle of alpha, I have to take some of your blood." She pokes him with her nail. Drawing blood in a single swipe. "You were not born an Alpha. I have to recreate your bloodline to be of Alpha rank." She swirled the blood in her palm. We saw magic happen here. "I will take this and await your change to insert it back into you." We nodded. "If this is understood, then I will take my leave. I am eager to see your shift for the first time." She chuckled. "Fare-thee well, my children." She left us in the forest again. "Come on, love. I am too wound up to sleep now." I rolled my eyes and huffed at him. "It's not like you have to go through the pain." He jests. I swiped my tail in his face. Hearing him spit out my fur. "Rude." And that was it. When we got home, I knew what I had to do.
