Chapter 30
Monday
THEY FOLLOWED REX quietly through the store until they got to the grocery section, where Rex stopped beyond a row of shelves and assumed a pose next to an aisle labeled ‘Cereal’. When they reached Rex, they saw what he was looking at. Two kids occupied the aisle, and they appeared to be sound asleep in sleeping bags. Josh couldn’t see enough of the kids to tell how old they were, but one of them was definitely pre-teen, and the other was a young teenager. He motioned to Jake to stand at the foot of the sleeping bags, while he walked to the head of the bags. Once he was in place, he bent down and shook each of the kid’s shoulders. The kids crawled out of the bags, rubbing the sleep from their eyes, and Josh saw that his assessment of their probable ages was on the money,
