Chapter 3

Meg's Pov

The car ride to the office was silent and long. Kyle still didn’t say anything to me and I honestly don’t blame him. He was still upset about what Liam did to him and it didn’t help that all I did was laugh… in the background. I turned to look at his face again and like before, he still had a pissed-off look on his face. “Kyle,” I said but he ignored him. I called him again but still nothing. “Kyle, I’m sorry… please say something to me. You know I hate it when you get mad at me” I said trying to calm Kyle down.

“Meg, look I understand where Liam is coming from, I honestly do but I am angry that you stood there and laughed as he threatened to turn me into tomato stew,” Kyle said and immediately I started laughing out loud.

“It’s not funny,” Kyle said but that only made it worse. After laughing for about three minutes, Kyle started laughing with me and I could feel that the tension was finally gone.

“Alright, I’m sorry okay. I know that Liam overreacted and that it would have gone differently if I had said something.” I said and Kyle turned to flash me a smile before driving into the office parking lot and parking the car. “Thanks meg, really appreciate the apology. Now, let’s go nail this meeting” Kyle said after he turned off the car. “Yeah, let’s do this,” I said before fist-bumping him. We got out and power walked into the office.

We walked into the elevator and pressed the top floor button. Once we got to our floor, the doors opened and we walked in. “hi Cindy, how was your night? “

I asked my receptionist as I passed her station.

“I am doing well, Mrs. Wilson. How are you?” she asked while flashing her beautiful set of white teeth.

I just nodded and smiled before walking into my office to get ready for the meeting.

Ten Minutes Later…

“Hey,” I heard Kyle say as he walked into my office while I was going through some files.

“Yeah?” I reply without removing my eyes from the file.

“It’s show time,” he said before leaving. I chuckle and grab my laptop and files before leaving the office. I walked into the conference room and was greeted by a group of unhappy faces and that of Kyle but I was a professional and didn’t look at their faces but greeted them before taking my seat close to Kyle.

“Now that we are all here, shall we begin?” Kyle asked and everyone opened their laptops and the projection screen was lowered.

“This should be fun” Kyle whispered to me before he got up and walked closer to the projection screen.

1 hour later…

“And that Ladies and gentlemen is how and most importantly why our company stands out among its competitors. We not only beat the competition, we also set the pace for others.” Kyle said as he turned off the projection screen and walked back to his seat. “Good job” I whispered as he sat down.

“That was a lovely presentation Mr. Wilson but how do you intend to increase our sales and revenue

My turn to shine…

“I understand your concerns ma’am but I can assure you that partnerships with our company will not only skyrocket your company’s revenue, it will also put you ahead of others,” I said confidently but before I could tell them more, I was rudely interrupted by a man. I noticed that the entire time that Kyle was talking; this man kept looking at me with a look of disgust and anger.

“Hold up, aren’t you the wife of Mr. Liam?” the man asked I was taken aback by his question but I tried not to show it. “Yes I am” I calmly replied and he scoffed.

“Well, it’s no wonder you’re trying to get us to partner with your company. You just want to satisfy your husband’s hunger for wealth and power” the man said nonchalantly.

“Excuse me?” I asked trying to control my emotions but I noticed that Kyle had tensed up close to me.

“You heard me, you and your husband just want to control everything, especially you,” he said pointing at me. Now I was starting to get upset but I wasn’t about to let a cranky old man get to me

I took a deep breath before turning my attention to someone else but the man kept coming for me. He kept throwing side comments and made rude remarks about me but I paid no attention to him. For the rest of the morning, I ignored him and continued talking to others but then he said something that struck a nerve.

“It’s no wonder you want to acquire more money. That’s all you can get, I mean it’s not like you can bear a child or anything” he said before laughing. The moment he said this, the entire room fell silent, and I swear you could hear the marching of ants. I sat down frozen and shocked that this man, this stranger had the nerve to say such to me, I felt like someone had kicked me hard but just as I was about to mutter words, Kyle lost his mind. It happened so fast but even after I saw Kyle jump on the man and start kicking him, I couldn’t move. I couldn’t stop Kyle from going after that man. I wanted to but I couldn’t move. His words pierced me so badly that I completely forgot how to move, speak and soon breathe. It wasn’t until I heard Kyle’s voice. “Luna…Luna listens to me and breathes. Okay? Breathe” I heard him say close to me and felt him place his hand on my shoulder. “Luna, breathe” Kyle continued to say to me but at that moment, I forgot how to do anything.

“It...It’s not my fault” I muttered but it just came out as a whisper and Kyle continued talking to me but I didn’t say anything to him or do anything. “i.e.…i... but…i…” I kept muttering to myself before finally turning my head to face Kyle. “KY…Kyle... I am trying, you know I am trying” I said as tears rolled down my eyes. “Kyle you know how much I want this… you know how much I want a child” I said as more tears flowed down my cheeks. “I know Meg, I know,” Kyle said while hugging me but I couldn’t feel the hug. From the very first day I was known as Liam’s wife, I tried to get pregnant. I tried everything possible but nothing worked. I was medically fine, heck Liam married me with my V-card intact and he was medically fine as well but I still didn’t have a baby. It always bothered me but Liam did his best to comfort me and no one has ever said anything about it, well not until now. Suddenly, my chest started hurting and I clutched it hard while gasping for air. I don’t know what happened next because suddenly everything went black and before I knew it, my skin collided with the cold hard floor and then I heard Kyle yell…

“SOMEONE CALL AN AMBULANCE... QUICKLY.... HANG IN THERE LUNA
