Happy Birthday

I could not believe Olivia brought us here to celebrate my 20th birthday.

"Why did you choose this place," I spoke close to Olivia's ear.

"Because last time we were here we got kicked out for being underage", Olivia said over the music pouring out of the speakers. Nexus is a nightclub located in the wealthy side of Emerald City only supernatural knew and a few humans knew about the place. It was a very high-end club.

"So, you thought it would be a better idea to come here again," I said, shaking my head. I had a bad feeling like something terrible was about to happen. And it did for the moment. I turned my eyes and fell on a pair of angry brown eyes. I quickly turned to Olivia, but she was already on the dance floor.

" What are you doing here," an angry voice said behind me. A chill of fear ran through me before I turned and faced him, my abuser's tormentor, my brother Noah.

" What are you doing here Mia, " his voice sounded angrier this time.

"Li- Livia thought it would be a great idea to celebrate my 20th Birthday here", I answered him in a shaky voice. I hated that he made me feel scared and weak all the time. I hated how he was hot and cold towards me all the time.

" Where is she?" my eyes moved quickly to the dance floor where Olivia was dancing with a guy. Noah turned in the direction of my eyes and pain flashed in his eyes for a few seconds before he turned to me.

"Get her you two are leaving. " I wanted to protest, I wanted to tell him that he was being unfair, that it's my birthday, but I decided against it the last time I talked back at Noah. I was stuck on laundry duty for 3 months without proper food. You see Noah.

That was the beginning of my stay in hell. Everything got worse. When I got to middle school, it was already a very confusing time and to have Noah f**k around with my mind too did a thing or two to my self-esteem. I ended up being closed off. As if putting me down wasn't enough. I remember he started a rumour about me when Jake from English class asked me out. When Noah found out, he told everyone that I gave to head for free into the girl's bathroom. You can imagine a school full of horny teenagers how bad that was. Well, I got letters from everyone saying they also wanted some action. Jake, I was embarrassed and refused to speak to me.

I quickly went up to Olivia and started pulling her off the dance floor.

"What is your problem", Olivia hissed.

" We must leave now," I said, pulling her to the exit. She pulled her hand.

"What is your problem, why the sudden urge to leave when we just got here," she said frowning, but she wasn't looking at me, she was looking at something behind me and I turned and my stomach just dropped. Nobody had ever seen the owner of the night club in person, but what everyone knew was that he was a very bad man and that no one wished to f**k with him, so you can imagine my shock when I turned and saw Noah and Liam Prince shaking hands like old fucken buddies. I quickly turned to Olivia and pulled her to the door.

"Mia, why is your brother shaking Liam Prince's hand like they are old friends," Olivia asked worriedly when we got outside.

"I don't know but I got a bad feeling about this," I said. Walking over to Olivia's car, I pulled out my hand, asking for the keys.

"Is that why we're leaving in a hurry because Noah told you to" I sighed and nodded my head.

" When are you going to stand up for yourself Mia?" I did not want to tell Olivia that I had a bad feeling about this, it felt like our whole lives were going to change forever, but I did not know how.

"Olivia, please I feel like listening to Noah, this is the right thing to do ". She gave me a little whine before placing the keys in my hand. I got into the driver's seat.

" I told my aunt that we would be staying at her place," Olivia said, putting her head on the window. I do not know how she got wasted so fast, wolves could not even get drunk unless they had sprinkled wolfsbane into her drinks.

"No, I'm driving us home," I said, backing out of the parking lot.

"But it's a three-hour drive from Emerald City to Reeds point," she said, whining again. I sighed. Reeds Point is a small town with a population of 3,862 home to two small packs of the red blood River pack and Silver Moon Pack.

"I don't mind driving it," I said, knowing full well that staying in Emerald City was a big mistake.

"Mia get the f**k up!" bang woke up. who was the i***t banging on my door so early in the morning. I quickly looked at my watch and noticed that I had overslept and the said i***t banging on my door was my brother. I slowly got up and walked to the door. The second I unlocked the door it went flying.

"What did he do to you," Noah said angrily. This wolf was close to the surface. I looked at him in utter shock.

"What are you talking about," I asked, confused. It wasn’t like I had a boyfriend. He made sure of that, so I was pretty much confused as to who he was talking to.

"Joshua!" he roared, and I was filled with dread about how he would find out. He must have seen the look in my eyes because his eyes turned black and his k9s were showing.

" Mate," his wolf said,

" No one hurts my Mate and gets away with it," he said, and I felt like I was in a bad dream. I could not be mated to Noah. He hates my guts.

"What " I whispered, unbelievably it couldn't be. Noah quickly turned away as if my shock brought pain to him. A growl left his lips as he stormed off. I was left looking stunned at the doorway.

"Mia, are you listening to me? " I blinked my eyes and I saw Olivia frowning.

"Mmh, sorry I blanked out," I told her and pulled my backpack up.

"You've been doing that a lot lately, are you sure you're okay?" I nodded.

"Anyway, what were you saying"? She gave me a concerned look before continuing.

" I was saying why did you insist on driving us home yesterday? My aunt was worried about us," she said, giving me a sceptical look.

" And why are you wearing a turtleneck when it is so hot," she asked.

"I don't want to talk about it," I said.

"I'm going to be late for my English class," I said, walking away.

"What got you in such a bad mood," she asks. I sigh and close my eyes.

"I'm Noah's mate" I blurted out. Olivia's eyes went wide as sources.

"You're what, does he know?" I gave her the are you kidding me? Look.

"We live in the same house," I told her.

"How did you find out" I sighed again. I've been friends with Olivia since middle school after she broke up with Noah. Her dad is the beta in our pack and my adoptive parents were Alpha and Luna of the pack, so she knew how much Noah hated me. She has witnessed the cruel things he did to me.

"He budged into my room angrily demanding to know if ‘He’ hurt me, and his wolf was awfully close to the surface and he ended up admitting it," I said, putting ‘He’ in quotation marks. She looked at me with a raised eyebrows and I shrugged my shoulders.

“who’s he” Olivia asked, mimicking me. I shrugged my shoulders.

“I don’t know” I answered her.

"Huh, that explains the weird vibe I've been getting from Zoe," Olivia said, as if getting the latest tea was the highlight of her day.

"So, what are you going to do", I looked at her for a minute.

"I'm going to reject him," I told her.

"What a funny thing. I was going to do the same thing", a deep voice said behind me, and my stomach did a backflip. How disgusting. I wanted to vomit.

"Noah," I said through gritted teeth, turning to face him, he had his cocky smile as always.

"I think the moon Goddess made a mistake of pairing with you such a weak, pathetic orphan wolf," he said with a cruel laugh.

"Why do you hate me so much," I asked in a bored tone.

"You were born. That is why you came into my life, that is why I hate you and will always hate you," he mumbled. This was the first time I've seen Noah without his minions or his girlfriend. Zoe. My heart broke when I thought of the two of them.

"I accept your rejection," he said proudly. I looked into his eyes. Hoping my eyes will reflect all the hate I had for him.

"I accept your rejection" I growled. I hope he knew how much I hated him. He just smiled and looked at me.

"Good now, since we've got that out of the way, I have some business to deal with," he said, strolling in the direction of the exit.

"Wow that just happened," Olivia said, helping me up.

"Yeah, it did," I said, limping in the direction of my car.

"I'm sorry," Olivia said, and I shook my head. It was not her fault I got rejected.

We walked to the parking lot to find one of Noah's goons savagely beaten up. Olivia and I exchanged confused looks. Nobody dared pick a fight with Noah's friends. They were huge, and they could take you fast.

"What do you think happened to him" I whispered to Olivia and with a worried look she just shrugged her shoulder. He was so beaten up I couldn't recognize his face when we got closer. I felt sick to my stomach. It was Joshua. He tried to force himself on me last night.

"You slut, I swear when I get my hands on you, you're going to pay," Joshua said in agony. I just looked at him scared and sick to my stomach. Olivia pulled me to my car. I couldn't go back home looking like this and I couldn't go to the packed clinic either.

We were in my car when my head snapped up. 'MATE' was all I heard in my head.
