Chapter 2 (Ava’s POV)  I didn’t know what was going on, all I could focus on was the pain radiating throughout my body. I didn’t know what I had done to set Marcus off this time, but whatever it was that I had supposedly done pissed him off so much that he didn’t even bother dragging me down to the basement. With my eyes shut trying to work through the pain radiating from my back all that I manage to say was “I didn’t do anything.” Repeatedly. When I heard the unfamiliar voice, I forced myself to open my eyes. There standing just behind Drew was one of the most breathtakingly handsome men I had ever seen. He was glancing around the room. I glanced over and I saw another man beating my brother, I didn’t understand what was going on, so I said the only thing that came to mind. “Why?” When I uttered this word, the man looked back at me and stared into my eyes with his hard ones. I saw him suck in a sharp breath and his eyes filled with rage. With a loud roar, the man knocked the other man out of the way and started to beat Marcus himself.  I was so confused I didn’t know what was happening around me or who these two men were. I didn’t know and I was scared. “D-Drew,” I stuttered out. “Yes, Ava I’m right here.” He replied. “What is going on?” “I should be asking you the same thing, why was Marcus beating you.” I sighed. “I don’t know. I never know.” “I’m going to take you to the pack doctor.” He said then leaned over to turn me on my back. When he did this, I was overwhelmed with all the pain, so I screamed. The man who was beating Marcus stopped what he was doing and turned a death glare on Drew. “What did you do to her?” he ground out between his clenched teeth. Drew held up his hands upon hearing the rage in the man’s voice and said, “I was just trying to pick her up to take her to the pack doctor.” When the man walked towards me, I screamed again this time in fear instead of pain and once again I tried to move but I couldn’t; I couldn’t feel anything besides the pain. What had Marcus done to me? When I noticed that the man had kneeled in front of me, I looked up at him and saw that the rage was still burning in his eyes but there was also a softness that could slightly be detected now. “Who are you?” I croaked out.  -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- (Rafe’s POV) “Who are you?” The girl croaked out gently. Without thinking I reached out to push the hair that had fallen into her face out of the way but immediately pulled it back when I noticed that she flinches. “My name is Rafe Wolf,” I said simply. I saw the recognition in her eyes meaning that she had heard of me before. Interesting. “I am not going to hurt you little one. We need to see how bad your injuries are.” “I can’t feel anything but the pain.” I nodded and looked over at Drew. “Do you think that you could call your pack doctor to come here instead?” Drew nodded but before he could mind link the pack doctor someone behind me said. “I already did.” Turning around I saw Arnold, and his rage evident in his eyes. There was a commotion behind him, and he turned to look.  “What the f**k is going on here.” Someone said from behind Arnold. “Marcus did the b***h do something she shouldn’t have again. I felt the rage flaring up in me again and pushed myself up and walked out of the pantry room to see who had spoken. Walking out I saw an older man that resembled the one that had been beating Ava. “Who the f**k are you and why are you in my house.” The man spat out in anger. Before I could speak though Drew spoke in his Alpha voice. “Randolph how could you do this to your daughter.” The man before me coward, realizing that his Alpha was also here. He could only gape not knowing what to say. Then he said, “I can punish my daughter any way that I see fit.” I was vibrating with anger upon hearing these words. Going over to the man I grabbed him his neck and pinned him to the wall. “Do you calling beating her within an inch of her life a punishment?” I said my voice laced with all the anger I felt. “Who are you?” Randolph asked, clearly confused at how I could have so much strength over him considering he’s a former Beta. “I’m Alpha Rafe Wolf from the Black Diamond pack,” I said and then smiled as I saw the blood drain from his face slowly. I was just about to repeat my question to the worthless man when another individual entered the house. “Arnold, where am I needed.” “In here mother.” I heard Drew call out.  Letting go of Randolph I turned around and walked back into the room where my mate was. Kneeling in front of her, I said, “The doctor is here.” “The Luna is here?” She asked. I nodded. “Why?” “Because you are injured and need your wounds tended to.” “Let me through.” The Luna said from behind me. I shifted to allow her access to Ava, but I wasn’t leaving her side. “I need everyone to clear out of here now.” She said with authority in her voice. Then glared at me when I didn’t move. “I’m staying,” I said. “She’s my bride,” I added. She looked at me with irritation in her eyes and said, “Fine, but stay out of my way.” I didn’t take offense to her ordering me about, she was after all the Luna of this pack. Looking down at the angel that was my mate, I could sense all the emotions radiating off her. The biggest one I felt was fear. “It’ll be okay,” I whispered. “Ava.” The Luna said quietly. “Yes, Luna.” “I need to get your shirt off do you think you can sit up?” Ava shook her head and said. “I can’t move.” With a sigh, the Luna took out a pair of surgical scissors and started to cut the shirt. As she cut the shirt away my breath seemed to catch upon seeing all the marks on her back. In the back of my mind, I heard Gabriel howl with rage and had to control my temper before he came to the surface again. “Oh child, what have they done to you?” I heard the Luna say quietly as Ava just whimpered. “I’m going to give you some pain medicine sweetie. It’ll put you to sleep.” Ava just continued to whimper. The Luna pulled out a syringe and filled it from a bottle. Leaning over she injected it directly into Ava’s wound in the middle of her back. It didn’t take long for the medicine to work because soon her eyes began to droop. Once she was asleep, The Luna started to clean her wounds putting an ointment all over back to help the healing. When she finished, she started to bandage her wounds mainly focusing on the one in the middle of her back. “Is she going to be okay?” I asked the Luna. “I’m not sure.” She said, tears streaming down her face. “I think he paralyzed her.” Getting to her feet she marched out into the kitchen and went straight to her husband telling him what was going on. I heard the roar of the former Alpha, but I just continued to stare at the girl lying in front of me on the dingy mattress.  I heard movement to my right and looked up to see Matt standing beside me, “Get the car, we are taking our Luna home tonight.” I said. Then I pushed up from my kneeling position leaving the room and going straight to Alpha Andrew. “Alpha Wolf.” He said as I walked up to him. “I need you to believe that we had no idea what was going on here.” I nodded. “I believe you.” I replied then added, “What are we going to do about them though?” looking in the direction of the Betas. With a pained expression on his face soon followed by rage, the Alpha said, “They will be banished, for tonight the prison cells.” I nodded having to be content with that. With a sigh, I glanced back at the little room that my mate laid in and then back at the people standing in the kitchen. “Alpha can I speak to you in private?” He nodded and then followed me outside onto the front porch. Looking up at the sky I took in a deep breath of fresh air. “What did you need?” Andrew asked. I could sense he was getting a little uncomfortable with the silence. “We no longer need to go through with the alliance arrangement.” Drew sucked in a breath. “Let me finish,” I said, and he nodded. “We no longer need to go through with the alliance arrangement because Ava is my mate.” Drew sucked in a breath and stared at me with shocked eyes.  “I need to speak with your mother and father to see if they are willing to come with me to my pack tonight.” “Why.” “Because I plan on taking Ava home, tonight. I don’t want her anywhere near those men who call themselves her family.” I paused and looked at him, “With that being said I’m not a complete asshole, I realize she is injured so I would like to have your mother come with me to keep an eye on her until I can get her to my pack hospital.” Drew nodded and turned to go inside but was met with his mother coming out.  “I’ll go.” She said simply and looked back at her husband. “You stay here with Drew and take care of Randolph and Marcus; I’ll have one of the warriors follow us and take me home when I am no longer needed.” Arnold nodded then looked at me letting me know with his eyes to not let anything happen to her. “That’ll be no problem,” I said simply, mind linking Matt to let him know what was going on. Not long after the decision for the Luna to accompany me back to Black Diamond an armored vehicle pulled into the drive and six men who I assumed were guards got out and walked straight to Andrew. “Luna Logan,” I said after the men were in the house collecting Randolph and Marcus. “Please, call me Sinead.” “Sinead, will you help me get Ava changed into some clean clothes and pack a bag for her?” She nodded walking with me back into the little room. When we got in there, we quickly got the rest of Ava’s shirt off her. Sinead found a clean baggy t-shirt in the dresser and we, as gently as possible, got it on her. Once that was done, we determined that her pants she had on were fine so Sinead started hunting around for clothes to pack for her. I glanced down at Ava and noticed that she was grimacing in her sleep. As gently as possible I caressed her cheek and she instantly settled. I guess even though she wasn’t quite eighteen, her wolf sensed who I was by my touch. “Rafe.” Glancing up I saw Matt standing in the doorway. “Is everything ready?” I asked. “Yes, the Alpha and his father just left with those bastards as well. Also, some men pulled in after me and they had a portable stretcher with them.” I nodded and looked back down at Ava. “Send them in.” Looking over at Sinead I asked, “Are you about done?” “Yes.” She replied zipping up a duffle bag and placing a backpack on top of it. Not long after that two bulky men, that I assumed were pack warriors, came into the small room with the portable stretcher. Together the four of us gently transferred Ava from her bed onto the stretcher laying her on her back. When it was time to pick up the stretcher Sinead told us to do it slowly and carefully, then walked out of the room taking Ava’s bags with her. “Matt you take her feet I’ll get her head. With you two on the sides for now.” The two men nodded and together we got the stretcher up off the ground. Matt and I took over by ourselves and walked through the house and outside, when we were going down the steps the two men helped again. Getting to the car I noticed that Matt had opened the rear door and plaid the seats down so we as gently as possible slid the stretcher into my Tahoe and I closed the door. “James, you guys will follow me to the Black Diamond pack. I am going in the Tahoe with Ava and Alpha Wolf, when they no longer need me to help with Ava we will go home.” Sinead was telling the two warriors. Both men nodded and went to their vehicle getting in and waiting for us.  “How long does it typically take to get to your pack?” “From here it’s about an hour and a half drive to the border of my territory and two hours to the main house.” She nodded getting into the back seat with Ava. I walk to the driver's side and got in. “Everyone good to go?” When everyone gave me their confirmation, I started the car and left the miserable house behind us heading home.   --------------------------------
