Chapter 3
(Author’s POV)
They were halfway to Rafe’s pack when Sinead asked him to pull over. “Is everything okay?” He asked.
“Yes, she’s just starting to come to, so I want to give her another injection.” Sinead replied.
Rafe just nodded and pulled over when he found a safe spot. Getting out of the car he opened the back door closest to Ava reaching in and gently rolling her onto her side so Sinead could give her another injection of pain medicine.
When Sinead gave Rafe the go ahead he got back in the car a continued driving towards his pack, other than the sound of the radio there was silence in the car everyone exhausted from the events of the last few hours.
It wasn’t long though before they reached the border of the pack. “Matt, mind link the patrol Warriors as well as Darek and let them know what’s going on and let them know about our guests,” He paused, glancing in the rearview mirror and then added. “Don’t tell them who Ava is. I don’t want the pack knowing I brought their Luna home since she doesn’t turn eighteen until this weekend.”
Nodding, Matt did as he was bid. “Do you want me to mind link Michelle directly or have Darek take care of it?”
“Mind link Michelle directly, let her know she needs to be ready for a trauma patient in the Alpha’s medical wing. Then tell Darek to meet us there.”
Matt nodded his understanding again and mind linked the two people separately.
“Alpha?” Sinead said quietly from the backseat.
Rafe glanced in the mirror again noticing a confused look on Sinead’s face, “Yes, ma’am?”
Are you her mate? She mouthed just in case Ava was conscious enough to hear what was going on around her.
Rafe gave a quick nod and focused his attention back on the road. It wasn’t long before they reached the pack house. Pulling the car to the side of the house he got out followed by Matt and Sinead. James and Peter, the two warriors that had followed them, walked up behind the Tahoe and helped get Ava out of the car. When she was out Matt and Rafe carried her into the pack house, immediately going in the direction of the Alpha’s medical wing, with Sinead following closely behind.
Upon entering the wing, they heard whispered shouting. “I don’t know what’s going on Michelle, Matt didn’t tell me anything either.”
Turning the corner, they saw Michelle scowling at Darek. “All I have to go on is the fact that we are here and it’s a trauma patient, is it Rafe?”
“I don’t know! I’m just as nervous as you are Rafe is one of my best friends.”
That’s when Rafe took pity on them and said, “Guys quit bickering I am fine.”
Both of their heads shot up and looked at Rafe and Matt carrying someone. Michelle instantly in Doctor Mode, strode over. “Okay, what do we know?” She asked putting her stethoscope in her ears and placing it on Ava’s chest. That’s when Sinead spoke up and told her what she knew about Ava’s injuries. Michelle just nodded as she listened.
When Matt and Rafe walked into the room meant for the Luna she stopped in her tracks and just stared tears coming to her eyes. “Rafe?” she gasped.
After Rafe, Matt, Darek and the two warriors from Lotus Grove had successfully transferred Ava onto the bed from the stretcher he turned and looked at Michelle.
“Is she…” She couldn’t finish the sentence, so she just stared into his eyes trying to ask him the question with her eyes.
He understood what she was asking and just nodded. “She’s seventeen.” He said through the mind link
Michelle clasped her hand over her mouth trying not to let out a sob. She quickly composed herself and walked over to Ava’s side getting to work. “Ma’am, will you help me since I can’t have a nurse present?”
“Of course, dear. What do you need me to do?”
“Start an IV, you will find everything you need in the cabinet above the sink.”
“On it.” Sinead replied and went to do what she was asked. After about twenty minutes they had Ava hooked up to multiple different machines and the IV was in place.
“Michelle, I need to talk with Darek about what’s going on. Mind link me if there are any issues.”
“I will.”
As Rafe turned to leave the room though Ava started screaming in pain, turning around he saw that she was waking up. He saw Michelle trying to calm her down, but it wasn’t working. Without even thinking he walked over to Ava scooted Michelle out of the way and gently grabbed Ava’s face turning it in his direction. When she felt his hands on her face her screaming quieted down to whimpers.
“Ava.” He said hoarsely. She didn’t respond just shook her head back and forth eyes firmly shut. “Ava, please open your eyes and look at me.” He said gently stroking his thumb up and down on her cheek trying to soothe her.

(Ava’s POV)
My mind was racing, I couldn’t move everything hurt, well almost everything. I couldn’t feel anything from my waist down. What was going on, I thought. I heard voices around me but couldn’t seem to open my eyes they were just so heavy. Then I remembered that Sinead had given me some medicine to stop the pain and it had put me to sleep. Then as if on que I felt the pain, and cried out, not realizing that it had come out as a scream. I heard someone start talking to me, but I didn’t recognize the voice. My head started thrashing back and forth struggling against the pain that seemed to start radiating all throughout my upper body. I couldn’t take it anymore, but then just as I started to feel like giving up, I heard a voice.
“Ava.” It said hoarsely. I just shook my head and squeezed my eyes tighter. Why wouldn’t the pain go away, this was worse than all the other times Marcus or my father had beaten me, I typically would start the healing process a couple of hours after the beatings had stopped and by morning I just ached, but I could tell this was different something was wrong. “Ava, please open your eyes and look at me.” The voice asked gently, then I felt a hand on my cheek stroking slow soothing circles with their thumb, I instantly felt calmer.
After what felt like minutes but was only a couple of seconds, I relaxed a little and slowly forced my eyes to open. I blinked a couple of times trying to adjust to the bright light in the room. Glancing around I noticed that I was in an unfamiliar room, the walls were bare and white and seemed to be rather large. I finally settle my gaze on the person whose hand was on my face still. Looking into his Caribbean Blue eyes, I found myself lost for a moment, until another wave of pain flashed through me, whimpering, I said, “Hurts.”
“I know it hurts baby.” The man said.
“Do I know you?” I asked.
He nodded and shook his head at the same time. “I’m confused.” I said.
“We met a couple hours ago right after…” he paused closing his eyes. I could tell he was trying not to get angry, and I was about to ask why he was angry when everything that had happened tonight came crashing through my memory. I started to shake with not only the pain but the terror of what happened.
“Whe… where am I?” I asked quietly.
“You’re in the medical center for the Black Diamond pack.”
“No no no no no…” I gasped out then started to try and get up but couldn’t.
“Ava, you need to calm down, you’re safe.”
I shook my head, he didn’t understand if I didn’t get home soon, Marcus and my father would be angrier than they already were, I didn’t want that to happen. “I have to go home; you wouldn’t understand, and I can’t tell you.”
“Ava.” The man said sternly. “You are safe.” He enunciated each word.
“No, I will never be safe.” Again, I tried to get up, but couldn’t I didn’t understand what was going on all I knew was I needed to get home before something else happened. As I was struggling to get up again another wave of pain rushed through me making me cry out.
“Ava.” A new voice said to my right. But I didn’t look to see who it was I just laid there and cried still trying to get up.
Suddenly though I felt like I was floating, and my eyes were starting to get heavy. Right before I succumbed to sleep, I heard the person say. “I’ve given her 6mg of Thiopental.”
“What’s that?” Someone asked, I wasn’t sure who.
“It’s a medication to induce a coma.”
“Michelle, why would you do that?”
“Rafe, she’s been traumatically injured, she could potentially injure herself further in the state that she is in. For now, it’s the best thing we can do for her so she can start to heal.”
