Elena POV I turned back in alarm as a yell came from behind me, only to see the glint of metal in the cook’s hand, as she lunged straight towards me. Move. My brain screamed at me but I couldn’t. For some reason, my body had frozen and completely shut down. As if it was happening in slow motion, I saw the hatred clearly in her eyes as she looked at me, the setting of her jaw in determination. Even the lines on her face appeared clearer and sharper to me. Right as I tightly closed my eyes to brace myself for the pain, I heard the sickening sound of flesh tearing up as a sharp object sank into it. Inhale. Exhale. A sweat drop rolled down my neck and my heart drummed fiercely against my ribs as I waited for the pain, but nothing came. It felt like hours had passed, not merely seconds
