Lysander POV
"The soft light of dawn still seeped through the window, casting a warm glow over the room. The crisp winter air carried a gentle breeze that brought a sense of comfort and coziness to the atmosphere. I rubbed the sleep from my eyes, then sprang out of bed with sudden energy, like a hunter spotting prey."
"A smile of promise and potential spread across my face as I stood before the mirror, proudly acknowledging my progress. I placed my hand atop my head, marveling at the rapid growth and transformation that has taken place within me over time. A soft chuckle escaped my lips as I noticed the remarkable changes that have unfolded with each passing day."
"A loud popping sound filled the air as a sparkling light illuminated the sky, boldly writing out a message in vibrant colors: 'Happy Birthday Alpha!' I exclaimed, 'Fireworks!' as I watched in wonder, mesmerized by the transforming words that seemed to dance across the sky."
"I turned to the mirror to adjust my pajamas, only to discover a gooey substance accumulating in the corners of my eyes. I scrunched up my face in disgust. 'What's this nonsense?' I thought to myself. 'Is this part of my birthday gift?' I asked sarcastically, waiting for my wolf's response. He obviously kept quiet. 'Callie!' I called out, acting frustrated."
"Shortly, a loud knock resonated through the solid wooden door of my room, the banging repeating twice, prompting me to walk to the door and answer it. I let out a heavy sigh, running my palm through my hair, and then turned the knob before pulling the door open."
The door swung open, revealing Vynessa, my eccentric friend, standing in the hallway with a bright smile. I leaned against the door frame, crossing my legs and folding my arms over my chest.
"Happy birthday, Alpha," she said in her sweet, soprano voice, which hinted at a momentary trill, reminiscent of a night bird's gentle whistle. I beckoned her closer, my eyebrows raised in a playful warning, and whispered in her ear, "You shouldn't call me Alpha until I'm officially crowned, silly!"
The surge of misconception resonated within me, and I grasped Vynessa's wrist, pulling her closer with a firm push of the door behind me. "What are you doing?" she exclaimed, her eyes wide with alarm. "I want to show you something, Vynessa," I said, my voice low and urgent, but I swallowed the rest of my words, leaving them unspoken.
"Despite the excitement bubbling within, the physical tension stemming from my pack's strict social hierarchy kept my heart racing rapidly, lingering an air of unease. Everything seemed to be unfolding faster than expected. 'Lysander,' she called out in a hushed tone, her face turned expressionless, her eyes fixed on me with an unnerving intensity, as she assumed a stiff, formal stance, her hand resting on my shoulder."
"A mixture of curiosity and desire washed over her face, her gaze piercing. 'You can confide in me, Lysander,' Vynessa said, her voice barely above a whisper, inviting my trust."
"I glanced at the wardrobe, adorned with a red tied rope - a decoration Aria had crafted yesterday at moonset.” She followed my gaze, her eyes wide and fixed with a glazed expression. 'Isn't... isn't this red rope for a ritual?' she asked, her voice trembling. Her eyes darted back, filled with urgency, but I shook my head, offering a reassuring smile.
“That's just Aria's decor,' I explained. Though she tried to hide it, disappointment washed over her face as she stumbled back to the bed."
"I shifted slightly, yielding the space to her, as the weight of the impending event overwhelmed me. Feeling scrambled and disoriented, I sluggishly exited the room. As I walked down the hallway, my foot caught on the floor, causing a loud scraping noise to echo through the corridor."
"The mansion was alive with the echoes of chattering and laughter, as the pack workers' attire transformed from black gowns with white collars to pure white gowns, creating an inviting and encouraging atmosphere. Suddenly, a familiar voice pierced my hearing - Alpha Lysander of the Whitemoon Pack."
"But I refused to be swayed by his charming address. 'Happy birthday, Buddy!' he exclaimed, clapping his hands to get my attention.”
“However, I remained distracted, mindlessly staring at the grand staircase with its gilded banisters and plush carpet, leading up to the chambers.” My legs stuck to the floor, unmoving, as my gaze remained fixed on the opulent fixture.
"We exchanged pleasantries before I instructed Niam, 'Get a fruit vodka and two glass cups, and meet me in the garden.' With that, I headed down the corridor towards the garden, leaving Niam to fetch the drinks."
*8:34pm*
"The lunar moon was already at its peak, coinciding with the ceremony of my birthday and ordination as an alpha. The floor-length gown was made of luxurious silver fabric, evoking the glowing moon, with a high rounded collar, while a golden belt cinched at the waist. It hung on a golden hook close to my wardrobe."
"Just as I thought a moment on the balcony would bring me some peace, my door began opening and closing incessantly.”
Then, a loud scream from Aria shattered the silence. 'Brother, you're becoming an alpha within...' she trailed off, glancing at the clock before snapping her fingers, as if to dismiss the need to finish the sentence. She continued with a knowing smile, 'Within one hour.'
"I'd be happy if you used the door, sweetheart," I announced, still twirling on the bed. Her jaw dropped in dismay as she watched me. "You're just so ungrateful!" she shrieked, flinging her teddy bear at me. I caught it and held it close, but immediately flinched aside when she slammed the door shut behind her.
I felt the sensation of my wolf's transformation taking hold - my bones crunching, my features morphing into something more feral, my eyes shifting,I knew instinctively that danger was near.
I hastily opened the door, peeked outside to scan for threats, and then dashed out through the pack's secret door, running straight into the woods to escape the looming peril."
