02.Who is she?

The meeting room was filled with murmurings as the workers discussed the sudden change amongst themselves. But that didn't last long as the doors suddenly flung open and Chelsea stepped inside. Her expensive perfume filled the room, and they all could not get their eyes off her. No one had ever seen Chelsea before. They didn't even know her. So her presence, though magnifying, still begged for some answers from the eyes of the beholders. Unlike her flamboyant, seductive dressing last night, Chelsea appeared more formal. Her wavy shoulder-length hair bounced as she made her way to the front, ignoring the gazes. “That is Chelsea?” Ashley whispered to Sera, who was behind her but completely speechless. Evan appeared right afte,r and his presence caught their attention. He walked up and stood next to her. The workers looked at the couple-like pair standing in front of them. "Good morning, everyone." His commanding voice echoed across the room and everyone became serious to listen to what he had to say. Seraphine was biting her lips, waiting for him to speak. "Good morning, Sir." They answered at once. "This is Chelsea, the new design director. She will be working with all of you on the various designs before it gets to me. Ensure you make the environment a good working place for her. Is that okay with you? " "Yes, Sir." Chelsea smiled gracefully as she turned to look at Evan with tenderness. "Thank you." Seraphine released her lips reluctantly and walked away from the scene to her office. She slammed the door and walked to the balcony, looking very unhappy about the situation. She wanted that position. "I can't believe he gave it out. I just can't..." She rested her head over the vertical lane of the balcony as she complained bitterly to herself. The door opened, and she didn't bother raising her head to see who it was. His scent affirmed that it was no other than him. Evan hugged her from behind and kissed her neck. "I know you wanted that position for yourself, and I am sorry that I had to give it out." He said to her. Seraphine turned to look at him. It was clear that she wasn't pleased with his explanation for doing that. "Even though you promised to give me the position, you know it's not just MARITAL FAVOR working for me. I deserved this. I worked myself out so I could get it. Why her? And who is she? What has she done to deserve the position?" Seraphine questioned nonstop. She was angry. Her face was red from all the pent-up frustration. She was trying so hard not to lose it. Evander was a bit shocked to see her angry. Seraphine had never questioned his orders before. She believed everything he told her and supported his decisions. But this…? He could even feel the anger vibrating off her. He took her hands instead and pressed them softly in a bid to pacify her anger. "Listen, Sera. My hands were tied. Chelsea is the daughter of my father’s friend. Her father asked mine to take good care of her before he died. She just got divorced and was looking for some work to do. I just had to give her.” Sera scowled. That was not an excuse, though. “But there are other vacant positions you could have given her. Why this?” “I am sorry, okay? Alright, to show how sorry I am, I promise to grant any of your requests to make up for this." He spoke gently, his voice complementing the soft breeze as it blew against Seraphine's skin. She raised her brows suspiciously at that. "Really?" "Yeah." "Then make me the main judge for the jewelry competition coming up next month." She ordered and turned her face away, believing he wouldn't grant it. "Deal." Evander took her by surprise. "What? Deal?" Her eyes widened. She was sincerely joking. She didn't expect him to take it seriously. "Yeah, isn't that what you want? You are going to get it now, so..." He paused and looked at her, "Why? Don't you want it anymore?" Seraphine chuckled and shook her head, "Of course, I do. I was just surprised that you answered me this quickly. But do you know that doing this means that I'm representing the whole company, right?” “Yes, I know, and I believe you can do it.” Her heart fluttered at how reassuring his words were. Her anger quickly dissolved after this. "You've never failed me, Sera. You're a beautiful, strong woman. Your confidence is one of the reasons I knew I had to marry you. So you can do this, and you can do much more.” He rested his head against hers and kissed her forehead. Sera smiled sheepishly and held his hands, “Thank you so much.” “You're my wife. You can get anything you want, and I'll satisfy you as long as you're happy.” He tickled her and she giggled, falling into his arms. Finally, he spoke, “I will have your name registered with the others. I need to get back to work now." “Don’t forget that we are meeting with grandfather.” “Sure. Have a nice day,” he answered. Immediately after he left, she giggled into her palms, and her hands unconsciously went to her tummy, which she rubbed. Maybe she should tell him about her pregnancy since they are both fine now. Nothing wrong was happening like she thought. As soon as she settled down, someone knocked on her door and entered without waiting for her permission. It was Chelsea. She approached Sera with a tight smile while holding a file. "I saw someone was bringing it to your office, and I opted to do that instead. I just wanted to apologize to you." "Why would you apologize? What did you do?" "I did nothing, actually, but I think you needed this position more than I needed it, and I believed you must have been disappointed when Evan gave it to me instead after speaking with him. I am sorry." Something about this woman didn't feel right to Sera. She sensed that Chelsea disliked her. Her words and attitude towards her smelt of hypocrisy. Her next words only fueled Sera's thoughts, "I don't know what's wrong with him. That guy seems to care more about me than anyone else.” Chelsea sighed and shook her head. “If he had told me that you were interested in the position, I would have dropped it a long time ago but he instantly agreed to give it to me and I didn't think much about it either." She said as if she was being serious about the issue. Her expressions were fake regardless and Seraphine caught that. Evan’s assistant knocked on Sera’s door before entering, "Good morning, Miss Seraphine. Mr Evan sent you an invitation for the competition as the main judge of the event.” Chelsea eyed the golden colored invitation card with contempt. Her face was brutally cold after laying her eyes on it. She tried to hide her anger and simply smiled. “Oh, is that for the jewelry competition?” “Yes,” Sera replied as she stretched her hand and collected it. “Is there any problem?” She raised one of her brows at Chelsea, as if announcing her tiny victory. “Nothing. I won't disturb you while you work.” Chelsea forced an unnatural smile, shook her head, and left. Towards evening, Sera was done with work and quickly rushed out to the gate to meet Evander. They had plans, and seeing him waiting for her next to his car made her happy. He was on a call, and by the time she got there, he was already done with the call. She ran to him and sweetly called him, “Darling! I'm going to tell you something surprising.” “What surprise?” However, before she could speak, the passenger seat window slowly rolled down, and Sera saw Chelsea. Her smile vanished instantly.
