“Really, how are you? We’re pretty worried y’know” Lyn placed her hand onto Benny’s. His chest sank, as the memory once more paid him a visit. He was never truly given the time to process things. It all happened so fast, he thought to himself. And the thought of the upcoming expenses and stress the whole repairs would bring in; and not to mention, the stigma from the locals when word gets out. His heart sank deeper just thinking the look on his parents’ faces when he’d finally tell them.
“ Uh- yeah, ha-ha. Sorry. I’m okay, just tired.” He gave the two a reassuring smile. He looked at his half-eaten burger, and slightly pushed it aside. He reached for his cola and took a long sip. “ I’m good you guys. You know me.”
Lyn did not bought that. She looked at Margo, who was on the same page as her. After a brief mental communication, the decided not to press Benny even further. “ Hey, look. I didn’t noticed that earlier.” Lyn referred to the poster plastered on a tree just outside from where they’re eating. Margo, being sat next to the window panels, leaned against the glass to get a better look. “Damn. They still haven’t found a new one.”
Margo continued: “You think, they’ll be able to decide now? It’s been how many batches ever since. Four? Must’ve been tough.”
“ Hey, you think I got a shot?” Lyn blurted out. They laughed at the absurdity of the idea. Lyn, the rebellious sort, would be town’s maiden.
“ I’m serious man, just imagine the look on their faces if I showed myself at the auditions. Let alone be chosen.” Lyn smirked. She wasn’t fooling around this time. “ I just want to have a word with those pricks at the board.”
“Hey now.” Benny chimed in. He hesitated as he remembered he needed to reach this month’ quota. Especially now. “ If you’re really serious about it, maybe I could get you in the auditions.”
“ You too? Please don’t encourage her Benny.”
“ I’m going to do it. Benny, the auditions are held at the gymnasium, yeah? With the board and some of the faculty.”
“ Yeah. Why? Scratch that. I could get you in, be ready”
“ Thanks. I know that look Margo, It’s going to be fine. Besides you’ll be tagging along with me.”
“ Is tomorrow good?”
“ Yeah, what do I need to prepare?”
Margo felt helpless as the two grew more determined to crash the auditions. She leaned back to the cushion and accepted her fate.
