The Split Within

The darkness surged toward Amara like an unrelenting storm.

“Kelechi shouted, ‘Amara, move!’ but her feet felt glued to the cracked earth. The weight of the shadow pressed down on her, heavy and suffocating, as if it were trying to crush her spirit before it even reached her body.

Then—

Her mark flared to life.

A brilliant burst of golden light erupted outward, colliding fiercely with the encroaching darkness. The two forces clashed with a thunderous roar, shaking the very ground around the fractured Egg.

Amara cried out as a surge of energy coursed through her.

Flashes of images raced through her mind—

Light.

Darkness.

Creation.

Destruction.

All intertwined… not separate.

She gasped. “You’re not just destroying the Egg…”

The shadow hesitated for a moment, its form flickering.

“You’re part of it.”

The space quaked.

Kelechi glanced between them, bewildered. “Wetin she dey talk?”

Amara stepped forward slowly, even as the pressure bore down on her.

“The Egg didn’t reject you,” she said, her voice growing stronger. “It separated you… to maintain balance.”

The shadow’s glow brightened.

“For balance, one must endure exile,” it replied coldly. “I was cast away… forgotten… while light was revered.”

The c***k in the Egg widened once more.

Amara winced as pain shot through her arm.

“If you destroy it,” she said, gasping for breath, “everything ends—including you.”

A heavy silence hung in the air.

The shadow faltered.

For the first time.

Kelechi leaned in closer, whispering urgently, “If e dey listen… talk something wey go stop am!”7

Amara briefly closed her eyes, then opened them—filled with determination.

“You don’t need to destroy it,” she said. “You need to return to it.”

The darkness quivered.

“That is not my place,” it growled.

Amara shook her head.

“It is,” she insisted. “You’re not the end… you’re the other half.”

The light surrounding her intensified.

And for the first time—

The shadow held back from attacking.
