MINA I lay in my new bed and wondered if it was really mine. The mattress felt too soft. The sheets smelled like fresh detergent and sunlight, already washed and dried by someone I didn’t even meet. Everything was warm. In fact, it wasn’t even the bed that bothered me. It was the feeling. This… comfort. Was I supposed to have something like this? I stared at the ceiling. Everything had been arranged by the time we arrived back home. The pillows fluffed. The blankets tucked. The floors cleaned. All of the groceries and furniture we bought were also arranged neatly around the house. That should have been my job, right? But the moment we returned, Elias told me to rest. I realized quickly that going against him would only exhaust me more. So I didn’t fight. At least, not this time
