Winning the Deal

  At midnight when Sid was in deep sleep, Nandini went to his room and started to pat on his shoulder to wake him up. “Sid, I am having a lot of doubts, please clarify them, you can sleep later,” she said with her sweet and innocent voice.

    Sid opened his eyes to find his mother standing in front of him with the file in her hand. It was looking like a small girl was standing with a math book for a solution to the problem. He asked, "what is the time now?" rubbing his eyes thinking it is already morning.

    “It is only 12, just one doubt, you can clarify it and then sleep, I won’t disturb you again,” she said casually like it is not a big deal for him.

    “At midnight, you want me to solve your doubts, please mom, for God’s sake sleep, for now, I will clarify all your doubts in the morning,” he said and he was about to sleep, but Nandini stopped him from doing so and said, “I will forget what doubt I got till the morning,” and looked at him with hope.

    He made Nandini sit on the bed and took the file from her hands and kept it on the side table and took her head and put it on his lap and started to tap her head so that she can sleep.

    "Sid, please clarify the doubt, I will forget," she said and Sid forcibly closed her eyes and said, "I will clarify all your doubts in the morning."

    Nandini slept and Sid kept his head on her shoulder and slept. Nandini woke up in the morning and saw that Sid was sleeping on her shoulder and stayed like that only without making any move.

    After some time Sid woke up and looked at his mother and found that she was awake and said, “good morning, Mrs. Raichand,” and “How are you doing today?” he asked teasingly.

    Mr. Siddharth Raichand, make yourself free within half an hour, till that time, I will make breakfast ready for you and she arose from the bed and went away.     

    Today, I am going to die with mom’s questions and I have to go to school as well, and there Mr. Drama queen will be ready with his dramas. He arose from the bed and went to the washroom and completed his morning chores and did bathe and wore his school dress and came to the dining table.

    Nandini came with the toast, scrambled eggs, and a glass of milk and sat beside Sid and looked at him and asked, “are you ready to clarify my doubts now?”

    Umm..as soon as he replied, she started asking questions, as soon as he clarified one, she asked another question, like that she asked so many questions, but Sid clarified all her doubts coolly, and at last said, “meeting is at 2 PM and I told your PA about it and she will make all arrangements.”

    Sid, isn’t there any chance?

    "No chance at all Mrs. Raichand and this is going to be your first meeting and be careful, you should not lose the deal at any cost. I will not tolerate anyone losing the deal of my company," said Sid.

    Nandini was not sure if she could deal with it or not. Sid, came near her and kissed on her forehead and said in a calm voice, “All the Best, Mrs. Raichand, you will definitely get this deal signed.”

    He went near the door and turned to see his mother and said, “Mrs. Raichand, Aakash wants the party and now I will be waiting for the party as well with your handmade special dish, hope you won’t disappoint me.”

    Nandini smiled and thought, “I will never disappoint you, Sid, you did a lot yesterday, if being a small boy you can do that much to protect our company, I think I can do this much to get our company in a stable position.”

    As soon as Sid reached the school, Aakash came running to him and said, “Come we will go to the library” and started to drag him towards the library.

    Aakash are you okay? Why are you dragging me? I can walk and what is there that you are in so much hurry to reach there?

    “Shruti is in the library only and if I go there alone, they won’t be comfortable and you will search for me as well, so I was waiting for you here. I was missing her a lot,” said Aakash panting.

    They both reached the library and saw both Shweta and Shruti were sitting at the corner table and discussing something seriously. As soon as they saw Sid and Aakash, they said Hi to them and arose from their seats and came near them and all four went outside the library and sat in the shadow of the tree.

    Shweta looked at Siddharth and took a chocolate from her pocket and offered one chocolate to him. Siddharth looked at her and was about to say something, but Aakash looked at the chocolate, which Shweta was holding and took away the chocolate forcefully from her hand and said, “Sid doesn’t like the chocolates, but I like them very much” and tore the wrapper and started to eat and Shweta looked at him in shock, Siddharth with anger and Shruti punched him hard on his hand.

    Shweta ran away in the classroom and all three looked at her retreating figure and Aakash thought she might have felt bad about his action and that is why she ran away and said sorry to Sid, but Sid was looking at the classroom she ran in and after some time she came out and came to them and offered him the lunchbox.

    Sid looked at her and raised his eyebrows, “I made a sweet in the evening and thought of offering you at lunchtime, but as you always disappear during lunchtime, I thought of offering you now itself,” she said lowering her head.

    "Didn’t you feel bad that I took a chocolate from your hand?" Aakash asked to clarify his doubt.

    "No..no, you are Siddharth’s best friend, you know everything about him, I should say sorry for offering him the chocolate, from today I also won’t eat or buy chocolates," she said.

    Shruti was shocked by her statement and asked, “what are you saying Shweta?” and before Shruti could say anything further, Shweta caught her hand and signaled with her eyes to not say anything.

    "But, if you stop eating chocolates, who will bring them for me," asked Aakash looking at both of them. He knows very well, how Shweta is addicted to chocolates as he has seen her eating chocolates all the time and so many times she offered him as well.

    All the four sat and Sid started eating the sweet made by Shweta and started to enjoy it and looked at the three and said, “why don’t we go for a picnic one day?”

    "My father will not agree with it," said Shweta.

    Shruti said, "we will go during the school working day."

    “I don’t want to miss class as well,” said Shweta pouting.

    Sid looked at her and smiled and said, "if you say yes, I will stop the classes for that day."

        “Please don’t do that, I don’t want to trouble anybody, we will plan some other thing so that we four can enjoy,” said Shweta.

    Sid looked at Aakash and he was looking confused, so he asked, “what are you thinking?”

    "In which another way, we can enjoy," he said, looking at the three of them.

    “We are going to the picnic only and I will tell you tomorrow when we are going and now I think we have to attend classes as I have to leave in the afternoon,” Sid said arising from his place and went away with Aakash.

    "He is a jerk, he won’t listen to anybody, just does what he wants to do and daily I am bringing the lunch box for him as well, but he won’t even care to have lunch with us," she said with an anger-filled tone to Shruti. 

    Both Shweta and Shruti reached the class, but Shweta’s mood was off knowing Sid will not be available today as well for the lunch as usual. She was scolding herself for doing friendship with him, who doesn’t care about her emotions.

    In the office, Nandini read the file nearly 10 times and noted all the important points, and prepared herself very well for the meeting. She did rehearsals with the slides as well so that nothing goes wrong, thinking that her son should not get disappointed with her. She was waiting for the meeting when her PA came and informed her that the clients are waiting for her in the conference hall and all arrangements have been made.

    Nandini arose from her seat and looked at the file once again and asked, “who is going to take care of the laptop as there are slides, which should be run on the projector.”

    "One boy is already present there, you don’t worry about that madam, you come this way, I will be guiding you,” she said and took Nandini along with her.

    As soon as Nandini entered the hall, all stood up and greeted her and she replied to them with a smile on her face. She went near the projector and prayed and looked at them and looked at the projector and slide appeared on it and she smiled and started to give her presentation to them, with each slide she started to become more confident and when she completed her presentation, she came and sat on the seat and looked at them. They started clapping and she felt very happy and her tears fell from her eyes.

    "Mrs. Raichand, we are very happy with your presentation and we are ready to sign the deal with you, hope you won’t mind doing a partnership with us," they said and she agreed to them happily and said, "you people just relax till the documents get ready," and asked the PA to assist them and she sat there only. Someone came and sat beside her and without even opening her eyes, she said, “Sid, I know you were only operating the laptop. No one can know about me that much.”

    Mrs. Raichand congratulations on the first big deal. So, the party is on? I am going to call Aakash then. He is dying for the party.

    Sid, can’t we both celebrate it alone for today? I don't want anybody except you and me.

    Only if drinks are allowed, I can sacrifice my friend, otherwise, you have to bear Aakash as well.

    I won’t mind drinking today, as I want to forget everything, Sid. I thought of leading a normal life like a normal housewife, but my fate brought me here. I can’t escape nor live this life. My life is messed up and I have to get habituated to it. This is not the life I dreamed of.

    Everything will be alright mom, I will be always with you. We will overcome this difficult phase by working together. She took his hand and kissed it. I know we will overcome it, but will my life come back to normal?

    Both reached their house and she prepared a special dish for Sid and till then he ordered wine and they both enjoyed their dinner and she gave only two pegs to Sid and completed the whole bottle by herself and started to act weirdly. Sid then took her to her room and laid her on the bed and covered her with a duvet and went to his room and slept.

    In the morning, he went to check his mother. She was sitting on her bed catching her head and he started laughing seeing her condition.

    "Sid, I am suffering from a severe headache and you are laughing looking at my miserable condition, it is not fair," she said.

    Sid went into the kitchen and made coffee for her and came to her room and offered her. She looked at him and took the cup and started sipping the coffee.

    Mom, why don’t you take rest for today, any way you won’t take any medicine for it, at least take rest as there is no work in the office for you today. I will ask your PA to handle everything.

    "As you say," she said and laid on the bed and closed her eyes.

    Siddharth thought of going to the office before going to school; so, that nothing will be missed. He went to the office and took a look at the meeting schedule and ordered PA to take care of everything for today. He said to her, “Mrs. Raichand is not feeling well. If in case of emergency she can contact him instead of Mrs. Raichand,” and left from there.

    Shweta was waiting for Siddharth before the gate and one man came and stood near her. She looked at the tall frame with the black suit and got frightened and went far away from him and stood some far away from that person and started scolding Sid, “Siddharth, you stupid, you don’t understand anything, when I want to see you, you come late and leave before I get any satisfaction. I am not understanding why I am wasting my time on you.” She started scolding you stupid, you i***t, you dumbo, you...before she could complete the word, the man came and stood beside her and she got more frightened and was about to run away from there when she saw Sid coming and ran towards him.

      Sid looked at Williams and was shocked to see him there at that time. He asked him to be at home, but why did he come here? Before Sid can go to Williams, Shweta came running to him and hugged him tightly. Sid didn’t understand what happened to her suddenly, but this is the first time Shweta hugged him and he didn’t want to miss out on this opportunity and enjoyed the closeness of her and stayed in the same position.

    After some time Shweta broke the hug and lowered her head and said, “this man is following me for a long time. He is looking dangerous to me, please save.”

    Sid smiled and asked, “what are you doing here? I thought the class already started.”

    She looked at him with tears filled in her eyes and said, “I missed you, so was waiting for you to have a look at you, if I won't be able to see you now, I won’t be able to see you till tomorrow.”

    Sid was not understanding anything, how she suddenly changed? Has she changed or he has not noticed it till now. Shweta, go to your class now, we will meet at lunchtime. 

    "No, if I go now, you will disappear again, please can we both spend some time," she asked.

    Today, I am planning to have lunch with you, if you don’t want to go to your class, then I have no problem, but what if you will miss the class and the teacher will notice it and inform the Principal and the Principal will call your father. Did you think about it?

    No..my father will scold me, I am going to class and she turned and started to go towards her class and stood in the middle and looked back and said, “I take it as a promise that you will have lunch with me” and ran away from there.

    Sid came near Williams and asked, “what are doing here Mr. Wills, will you mind explaining?”

    I went to your house, but your mother didn’t open the door for a long time as she was sleeping and the other workers were also waiting outside the house along with me for her to open the door, but when she opened the door she said, she doesn’t want anybody to be around her now and all can take a leave for today as she is sleeping and there is no work in the house and closed the door, so I came here to inform you, but that girl was scolding you, so I went near her to listen why exactly she is scolding you, that’s it.

    What the girl was saying?

    "I don’t think you would like to listen to what she was saying, but if you insist, I can say," he said looking at Sid.

    I insist, now tell me what she was saying.

    She was saying that you are an i***t, stupid, dumbo, and was saying something, but you came and before that, she was saying something like you don’t understand anything, I was not able to listen to her clearly as her voice was very low.

    Thanks for the information, you should reach the house and stay in the hall and I also want information about Mr. Pathak, where is he and all.

    Yes boss, done, I will give you the information as soon as I get it. He said, “Good day to you boss,” and left from there.

    Sid was in his own thoughts, “why will Shweta scold me? I didn’t do anything to her. I think Aakash can clear my confusion,” and he went to the classroom and saw that Aakash was drooling and went and sat near him and looked at him and then looked at the teacher and found out that this is the same teacher whom Aakash misses a lot or can say whose beautiful face Aakash wants to enjoy.
