Redemption

Damien stepped over Tommy as he walked to the stage, ignoring Irene who ran past him to get to her Fiancé lying on the floor with bleeding lips. “You all know who I am, five years ago, this city wronged me. The Roosevelts and the McCarthys lied against me, but since we were once family and I believe in second chances, I am going to give every member of both families three weeks to crawl on their kneels through all streets in this city and beg for my mercy and forgiveness.” “Everyone in these families must participate, both their old and young. If after three weeks, you do not do as I have said, then I promise you, I will destroy every last one of you and erase your names from existence, like you did to me.” There was a little silence at the end of his speech and then the audience burst into laughter. “Is he drunk or just stupid? I think five years in prison must have messed with his brain.” “Imagine his audacity, he must not know that things are different now. The Roosevelts are an influential family in this city, no one dares to threaten them.” “What a fantasy! Destroy the Roosevelts? That is big talk for a mere criminal. He must have dreamed so much that he forgot the reality.” Damien turned to the row where the elite family stood. “Remember, you have only three weeks, and then I will show no mercy.” With that he headed for the exit. Tommy who was back up, quickly moved out of the way with Irene, still feeling the effects of Damien's blow. “You better run, Damien! The next time I see you little Voss, you will be a dead man!” Tommy barked like a toothless dog. ** There was a knock at the Roberts family door, Nora Roberts went to answer it. She opened it and her face dropped in shock at the sight of the man. “You?” She muttered, a look of disgust and hatred on her face. “Hello Nora, it's been a while.” He said calmly. An unexpected slap woozed across his cheeks, leaving a hand print on his face, but the man barely shook. It was almost like he felt no pain. “How dare you show your face here? Aren't you supposed to be rotting away in jail for your crimes.” She spat at him. “I didn't commit that crime, Nora. I was framed,” Damien remained calm. “Maybe. But you were never punished for the real crime you committed, so you deserve to rot in jail anyway. I was hoping you would die in there.” Damien looked into the woman's eyes, he was familiar with the look on her face. It was the same look he had whenever he thought of the Roosevelts and McCarthys. Pure undiluted hatred! And maybe he deserved it from her. “Nora, I have come here to apologize. I know what I did to you was wrong, I was a different person then…” Damien was immediately interrupted by the little footsteps of a little girl that ran to the lady. “Mommy!” His gaze fell on her and his heart melted. She was very adorable, and she had his eyes. Tony had told no lie, this child was undoubtedly his. The woman instinctively pulled the child behind her, hiding the girl away from him. “I don't care what you have come to say. Get out of my house or I will call the police.” She warned. Damien opened his mouth to speak, but just then an elderly woman walked out. “Who is at the door, Nora?” “It's no one, mom.” She tried to lie, but it was already too late, the woman had already seen Damien. “You bastard! Did you get released already? You should be rotting away in jail for what you did to my daughter.” She spat. “Let it go, mom.” Nora tried to calm her. “No! This man is the reason why our family's reputation is tarnished. Because of him, no one would do business with us. We are suffering due to consequences of his actions.” Damien sighed, understanding the extent of damage he had caused in her life. “I am very sorry for what I did to you…” “Sorry? Do you think sorry can change what you have done?” Mrs. Robert cursed. “No… But this might,” he said and handed her a credit card. Nora looked at the card and back up at him, unwilling to take it. Mrs. Robert huffed and burst into laughter. “What is this? A card with a few bucks in it perhaps. You must think my daughter and I are fools. Do you think we don't know that you are bankrupt? Did you come here to mock us?” She spat. “No, Mrs. Roberts. The balance in this card is unlimited, it will cover all your needs.” Damien replied. Mrs. Roberts laughed again in a mocking voice. “I think Prison has made you crazy. You are an ex-convict, where would you see such amount of money? Haven't you insulted my family enough?” “My mother is right. You should leave, we might be desperate but we won't accept your money.” Nora said. “What money are you talking about, Nora? You don't seriously believe this criminal? He was just released from prison, so he probably only has this clothes to his name.” Mrs. Robert huffed. “Just hear me out, Nora…” Damien was once again interrupted; this time by a group of four thugs who arrived at the house. “We have been instructed to take your child from you as you have been unable to pay back your loans!” One of the thugs announced. “No please, don't take my child from me.” Nora fell on her knees and pleaded. “I will work harder to find a job soon and I will pay back all that I owe.” “Nonsense! We are not here for your pity story. Give us the child!” Another demanded as they tried to go for girl. Damien growled and stood between them and Nora. “I can't let you take the child!” He said in a stern voice. “And who are you?” The man asked. “You must be blind to not see there are four of us. How do you plan to stop us?” “Easy! I only have to beat the first unlucky three and the last one would run away, they always do.” Damien replied confidently. The men looked at each other and burst into laughter. “I think this guy is high on something.” One of them tried to get past him but Damien grabbed the man's arm and threw him face first to the floor. Nora and her mother gasped in disbelief. The other two rushed at him but Damien easily beat them up, throwing them on the floor as well. They didn't even land a single punch against him. The fourth man seeing how badly beaten the others were, he immediately took to his heels. The rest of them staggered up and ran as well, cursing on their way. “Yayyy!! Uncle beat the bad men up!” The little girl cheered, clapping her little hands. “What have you done?” Mrs. Robert yelled. Damien was confused. “I stopped them,” he muttered. “No one asked you to. You have doomed us forever now. Mr. Natchez would not let this go unpunished. By this time tomorrow, he would have burnt our house down to the ground in revenge. Why are you doing this to us?” She cried. “I was just trying to help, plus you don't have to be worried about whoever this Mr. Natchez is. I will protect you.” “You are still very arrogant that you cannot use your brain. You are no longer a billionaire, so you cannot even protect yourself. If I were you, I would start running. Run far away from this city as possible, you have been given a second chance that you do not deserve, yet you do this.” Nora said. “Go away! Don't ever come back, maybe Mr. Natchez will show us mercy and spare our lives.” She cried. Damien Voss felt sad for her. There was no need trying to convince them, they would not believe a word he said. So he turned around and walked away. T. B. C!
