Back to school
My name is Boluwatife Divine Adebayo, I'm an artist who is also verified on tik tok cos I make amazing song covers and occasionally attend open mics occasionally. I'm also an art student aspiring to be a musician someday. Cooking up delicacies is not all there is to Boluwatife. I play the keyboard and guitar. But that's not important right now. Tomorrow marks the beginning of the greatest days of my entire life. I'm officially a senior student but I don't feel so excited about tomorrow, "Woah....you use a bra now?" I exclaimed watching Mary drop down her polo . We were in my room and she was helping me unpack my things from my trip, I arrived from the village few days back and I've been lazy to get it done. "This changes everything. What happened to our dream of growing breasts together and other things we talked about? Please tell me you remember?" "I don't think making resolutions while being high on weed counts at all..." Mary replied. "And besides you're rocking your new hairstyle and you have an open mic next week. That's plenty for you to be excited about." She added. "Still doesn't change the fact you have breasts now" "It's not my fault Dee..." "So how do you feel?" "I feel pretty normal if that helps. I guess." "So have you broke the news to your dad?" "Not really. He's been busy all week." "If you're not up for it, I could say something" She replied. "You know he doesn't like you right." "Really... I'm a very likeable person." "We'll he thinks we'll both run off into the sunset one day." "He's right you know..." She replied. We both chuckled before being interrupted by a gentle knock on the door. "I think I'll be heading out now..." Mary said realizing my Dad was back from work. "You don't have to go..." "It's getting pretty late and I have to get ready for school in the morning." She embraced me before unlocking the door. "Mary...." "Mr. Adebayo..." They said walking past each other, Mary blew me a kiss before disappearing into the hallway. "Really loving your new hairstyle just glad you decided to do something with you dada" He walked into my room. "Thanks Dad...and I'm feeling good about school tomorrow." "So how was your day at the office?" "The patients just kept on coming. Felt like it would never end." "Grandma said you should come visit her soon. I don't know how you're gonna make it happen but make out time to go." "I'll try..." He embraced me before walking out the door. In school.... Seeing everyone after the last long holiday didn't make me feel confident at all. Boys were already sprouting beards here and there with a lot of physical changes, they were. Permit me to use the word admirable but I didn't care about them. My attention fell on the girls, Mary wasn't the only one armed with cleavage. Watching them made me feel like there was something wrong my entire anatomy, cleavages all round and you have Boluwatife the underdeveloped. Even the twins Taiwo and Kehinde developed into sexy things. "Bolu..." Some yelled walking over. "Daniel..." I squinted my eyes watching him walk over. Daniel and I had this love hate relationship since we were the best students in class and he still hasn't gotten over last term or the ones before. "Always thought you'd attend another school after js3 but here you are." "I'm sorry but you can't get rid of me that easily." "Walk away and I won't have to hurt you." Mary appeared out of nowhere grabbing him by the scruff of his neck pressing down hard. Mary "Please don't hurt me" He quivered in fear. Mary really was scary, she was the never back down from a confrontation kind of girl. "Should I hurt him?" She said which made me ponder for a bit before waving my hands so she'd let him go. "Saw him through the window that's why I decided show up." "You know you don't need to protect me, Daniel I can handle." "I know.... I just enjoy hurting him. Not sure why but..." "Does it have anything to do with his comment on your grade?" I interrupted. She scored a seventy percent class average last term which Daniel dubbed mediocre. "I swear I'm over it." She said obviously that was a lie. "So how are you feeling about next week?" I pondered a bit at the question. "Your open mic..." She struck my arm. "...almost forgot about that" I replied. "You still remember the time and venue...?" "Bolu..." She yelled. "It's at the Night life palace at 8. I remember." "It's 9." "What's 9?" "The time." "Really...?" "How are you the smart one again?" "I only assumed it was by 8." "I'm telling you it by 9pm." "How are you on costume?" She said. "Just decided to dress normal. A shirt and my jeans. Maybe add my new sneaker." I replied. "I swear I'll kill you if you dress like that." "Why...? I don't have time to pick my outfit. Haven't even selected songs now that I know it's next week." "Okay..." She exhaled deeply. "I'll pick out your outfits from now on just focus on your music." "Thanks Mary." I gave a brief hug, she wasn't a fan of hugs. "So any idea about what you're gonna sing?" "Maybe Asa. Burns boy songs are also nice. But I do love me some wiz kid vibe." "We'll....just make a list after school and sort it out from there." "Alright..." "I'll see you at 6 tonight." "Definitely..." I replied. Rehearsals were now scheduled for the entire week cos of the open mic next week. Mary's POV 6pm Mom drove us to the venue we had booked for the rehearsal, glad to see everyone looking good after Bolu's long trip to visit her grandmother. The band consists of five members, Bidemi the drummer, Peter and Paul were on guitar. Susan on keyboard and Bolu on the mic. I didn't consider myself part of the band cos I don't actually do anything except manage bookings and reservations with the help of my mom. Bolu's mom filled in the managerial role before her passing. She died of cancer when Bolu was six and had just learnt to play the keyboard. I still remember when she would sing for her mom at the hospital, her death caused her to spiral into depression just glad she's back on her feet. Even though she doesn't talk about it much, her mom is the reason why she didn't stop singing. It what she would have wanted, her daughter being a shining light to the world with her music inspiring change. I honestly miss her but whenever you stare at Bolu, there was no question she was an exert replica of her mum just younger. Bolu mounted her stool and did her thing which meant it was my turn to do mine. Hold up the camera and position it on the tripod for her tik tok page. With that all done, I could just sit back and relax while Bolu worked her magic on the mic. Three hours later, end of rehearsal "You were amazing...." I said. She was gulping water. "Thanks...but it's still not where we want it to be." "But it was amazing...." I know what I heard. Her rendition of the Asa's 360 degree was amazing. "We really should be getting home. School in the morning." "Yeah..." I sighed.
