Raine POV Just then, something sparked inside me. Call it defiance, call it stupidity whatever it was, it shoved panic right out the window. Pleading or crying wouldn’t save me here. Not with him. So instead, I did the opposite. “Are you done?” I rasped, glaring up into molten golden eyes that practically burned through me. For a moment, actual shock flickered there. His beastly side grunted, lips pulling back as if my words had confused him. “Well,” I coughed, forcing my voice steady, “now that you’re done, let me the f**k down, you idiot.” To my surprise, the beast responded faster than my brain could process. His claws loosened. He lowered me gently, like I was glass. My feet touched dirt, and before I could catch my breath, reality slapped me again. I didn’t have time to breathe
