A Lie So Beautiful

33. Just a cold.

Mia's point of view.

I ran inside the hospital like I always do but today probably much more rush and out of breath.

I run to the reception and before I even ask she give me the room n.o. I gave her a thankful smile, and rush back again. Don't be confuse the nurse at the reception was a friend, so she knew. Our hospital is great but we do not posses magic just so you know.

After a while I reach the room and as soon as I entre I saw Jace sitting up leaning against the wall with his eye closed. What the hell? He was looking all healthy and fine when I saw him yesterday. Its has not even been a day yet since I saw him and he has made this to himself.

Just in a day, he has miraculously lost so much weight. Is it my eye, or my memory cause I clearly remembered him completely fine yesterday and now Iam clearly seeing him being so thinly and weak.

What has happen to him?

I worriedly walk over to him but I tried to walk as gentle as I can cause Iam not very sure if he is asleep or not.

But my question was answered very quickly, cause as I was just besides the bed he suddenly open his eye. Well I guess he is awake then.

Mia: What happened? What did the doctor say?

And I look at him in worriedly. Is it something bad? Why is just staring and not saying anything making me more worried.

Mia: Jace? Is it something serious.

Even as I said that he just look at me saying nothing with a sad looking eye.

Mia: Now, you are scaring me. Is something the matter, is it related to your health. Oh what the hell, I'll just ask Justin.

Iam pretty sure Justin is his doctor considering he called me before. And with that I was about to go out to find Justin. But just as I move, Jace got my hand making me stop walking and look at him.

Jace: Justin said its just a cold, and I faint due to high temperature.

As he said that I sigh in relieve and was about to scold him for not taking care of himself properly. But looking at his expression I kept that away for later. He look somewhat depressed and no hint of any kind of being okay can be seen. What has happen?

Mia: Well, was the fever so bad?

I sit besides him in the bed while asking him and looking at him.

Jace: No, I don't even feel anything. Iam alright.

As he said that I just look at him suspiciously.

Mia: Then why do you look so depressed. As far as I know, fever don't make you depressed.

As I said that he don't speak anything again and just look at me while sighing.

Mia: Did something else happen, is it something to do with Cane's mom? Did her condition worsen?

When I ask that he slowly shake his head in a no.

Jace: Luckily she is fine. Nothing happen to her.

Hmm, then shouldn't he be happy,why is he this depressed.

Mia: Then? Is it just because you are sick?

I knew it was not because he was sick but if he dont wanna share Iam okay with him saying that its because he was sick.

Jace: You seems to know that its not because Iam sick.

As he said that, I just stare at him with him doing the same.

Of course I know its not because he is sick. He look so depressed as if someone broke his heart right here, he look distressed at the same time and weirdly enough he seems lost, as if he don't know what's happening anymore. A cold is not that mighty that it will do this much to a person.

But I decide not to pry and comfort him for now. After all he seems to need time to open up and with me he could have all the time he need. So instead of asking what happen, I open my arms for him.

Mia: Want a hug, I heard my hug can heal all kind of stuff.

And I give him a suggestive look while wiggling my eyebrow making him smile a little. But nonetheless he accepts my offer and hug me anyway. While hugging me he starts to explain what happen which I was not expecting, at least not now. But its always good that he did.

Jace: Actually I come across some old friends of mine whom I cherise a lot but when I look at it, I dont seems to belong there anymore even if I wanna be, making me a little sad.

Friends? Who is it? And why are they not in a good term?

Mia: But why? Did something happen before or?

As I said that he breath in another sigh while still hugging me.

Jace: Actually it was me who left them before due to some unavoidable things and I don't regret doing that even till day, but just looking at them all being together without me being there make me a little jealous maybe.

He must really like this friend if he miss them this much.

Mia: Then just explain why you had to leave and what happened. Say sorry if you have to and forgive them if that's what's needed. Then everything will be back to normal.

As I said that he chuckle to himself but it does not seems like he is laughing in amusement, rather it feel like one of ridiculousness.

Jace: I really wish it was that simple, then I will have forgive and apologise a million times.

Hmm, Iam also not that naive that I would expect a sorry will solve everything but it does not hurt to try so why not.

Mia: So complicated relationship again?

Jace: Yes, but soon I will solve everything. I found a way to reconcile with them and make everything okay again. At that time, let me tell you what all is happening. So, can you please listen to me then as well?

What kind of question is this, of course I will. Iam dying to know over here.

Mia: Umm, quickly solve it and come to me. Iam dying of curiosity.

As I said that he look up at me from the hug and smile at me but the smile don't seems to reach his eye. Weird, he just look more depressed now. I thought his mood would have got a little better, considering he even found a way to solve whatever problem he was facing.

Jace: Iam nervous.

I look up at him curiously, why is he nervous now?

Mia: Why? Is something else the matter?

As I said that he let go of me and separate us from the hug. And this time he sits up properly and look at me straight in the eye, making me nervous as well for no apparent reason.

Jace: Cause I seem to be hurting my beloved ones just so that I could make someone else who I care for happy.

Okay now Iam confuse, what is he talking about. Did I miss something? No matter how I think about it I can't seems to get what he meant.

Mia(confused pout) : I don't understand.

When I said that he just smile at me while patting my head which obviously make me glare at him again. Sick or not, no one pat my head and go unwarned.

Jace: Just because I was trying to make my friends and my relation okay again, I worried the precious people in front of me. It was devastating to see you that startled and worried when I saw you enter just now.

Why do I feel like his first words don't mean this, the depth of sorrow with what he said that words just don't seems to add up to only this. But then, if he said its this, it must be this. Maybe Iam over thinking.

Mia: Its okay but only this time okay. You have to take good care of yourself and you can't say otherwise.

And with that I look at him sternly with my hands on my hips like one of those angry lady making him laugh and take down my hand from my hips.

Jace: Okay, I'll take care of myself. I swear.

While saying that he look at me for a while and suddenly hug me again. Is everything really alright with him? Why do I keep on thinking otherwise making me more worried.

Jace: Drop that worried face, Iam okay now.

How does he even know I was worried, he could not even see my face.

Jace: I can just know.

Ahh this is it, he can read mind now.

Jace: And yes, I can't read mind.

As he said that I quickly push him back a little and look at him in shock.

Mia: Ahhh!!! Handsome wizard.

And I point the finger at him making him laugh out loud carefreely for the first time since I saw him today, making me smile as well.

He hug me one more time, he is really hugging me a lot today. But its not like Iam complaining or anything. I accept such things with open arms.

Jace: Iam sorry.

Mia: Hmm?

Jace: For breaking our promise.

And I look at him in more confusion, what promise is he talking about. I dont remember him breaking any promises.

Jace: I said, I won't get sick and yet I did.

Oh! Last time I made him promise that he wont get sick by overworking.

Mia: Its no problem, you don't get sick by overworking yourself this time. So its fine. But didn't you say you faint, how did you get here?

When I ask that he was about to answer but just as he was about to speak I heard Justin's voice.

Justin: Your baby faint on front of the hospital Mia Pia. And I like a guardian fairy scoop him up and bring him here.

Okay, am I the only one who find the image of Justin with a wings and scooping Jace up hilarious. As I giggled to myself, Jace look at me is displeasure.

Jace: Stop imagining those weird things Mia. No one scoop no one up. Now stop.

I tell you he is a mind reader but hearing him denying so persistently just make me laugh more, irritating him. While hearing us Justin seems to get what's going on.

He look at me in shock for a bit then he seems to be in a thought for a while again and then suddenly he shutter in pure disgust by himself. I knew it, he imagine it too. But looking at his disgusted face make me laugh more.

I clutch my stomach while laughing, this is just too funny and I don't even know why.

Justin: Okay okay now stop. And yes Jace is fine now, he just faint due to high temperature. And I suppose you still dont forget what to do after this right?

When he said that I wipe my tears from laughing and nod my head in yes. I may be out of work for a while now but I do can take care of cold. Or so I hope, my memories should never be overestimated.

Mia: So we can go now right?

Justin nod when I said that.

Mia: Okay get the car and let's go home.

I said that while looking at Justin making him look at me in confusion.

Justin: Me?

Mia: Yup, do you see anyone else who can drive?

When I said that he look at me with his eye squinted in suspicion.

Justin: Yes I do can see, two actually.

When he said that I raised up my cast hand making his mouth form an oh! But he was not one to give up and has turn his gaze to Jace but before he can say anything I intervene.

Mia: Na uh! He is sick, sick people should not be the one driving.

Jace: Mia actually I ...

When he start speaking, now I look at me with a squinted eye saying you dare with my face. As soon as he saw my expression he quickly gave up on whatever he was thinking on doing.

Jace: Iam sorry dude but please go and start the car. I am dying to reach home.

As Jace said that Justin look at him in pure disappointment, making me chuckle.

Justin : But Mia, Iam busy.

Mia: Oh! Is it? Then we should go quickly so you can return quickly to your busy job.

Actually I knew he have a half day off today, and is about to go home. That why I ask for a ride but as you can see he chose to abandoned me.

Justin: Let's just go, I dont even have the energy to say otherwise when in the end Iam gonna say yes anyway, why even bother?

And with that he trudge out making me smile in victory.

I went to Jace and help him get up checking whether he feel dizzy which gladly he don't.

Jace: You can let go of my arm Mia, I just got a cold, I'll not Fall down while walking.

As he said that I look at him in say what manner. I mean he just faint or in his word fall down due to cold and now he says what?

Jace: Okay, what I mean was I won't faint again. I said it, Again. Now stop looking at me like that.

He said that and quickly walk out, well I guess he is okay now. What a relief, With that I follow him as well.

And yes right now we are in Jace car with Justin driving and me and Jace in the backseat.

Justin: But Jace, Iam been curious about this from before, how did you even end up fainting in front of the hospital?

Yeah did he stay the night with Cane's family here?

Jace: I was looking after a friend's mom who is admitted here cause he got some emergency and I was staying in the cold the whole night. So I must have catch a cold there, but withouth knowing I was going back home in the morning and that is when I faint.

Mia: You stayed the night? Is auntie discharged now? Or still in the hospital?

I could have gone and said hello if they were here.

Jace: Discharged. They went home in the morning.

Mia: Oh!

Well I guess next time it is then. And like that we reach home, this time Jace's.

I get up and was helping Jace to come out although he dont really seems to need it that much. As we go out I was expecting Justin to went away but he stayed.

Mia: Aren't you going?

Justin: After letting me drive all the way here, not even inviting me in?

When he ask that I act all innocent and look at him with a smile.

Mia: Thank you for the ride but I couldnt disturb you more than I already have. Didn't you say you were busy before , I'll leave you to your work without disturbing you then.

And I went in, closing the gate while laughing hearing him curse at me. But nonetheless he left anyway, dad is calling him for a while now since he start driving actually. So I knew he won't come in and went back to work. But I gotta have my fun as well, so why not.

I enter the house with Jace and he directly went and lie down freely on the bed. He must have been tired.

As he lay there I quickly went to the kitchen and make a sticky rice porridge with milk and goes back in.

Mia: Jace, sit up first. Let's eat this and take the medicine and then you can sleep.

When I said that he tirely open his eye and sit up lazily.

Mia: Well, let me pamper my boyfriend then.

And I take a spoonfull of the porridge and forward my hand feeding him which he eat while chuckling at my word.

Like that a few more spoonfull was eaten.

Jace: Why do I feel like, Iam a grandpa being fed rather than a pampered boyfriend?

Mia: Come on if you are a grandpa, you won't have a hottie girlfriend like me.

When I said that he look at me in disbelieve. Making me laugh, after that he lie down as now he have finish the porridge

Mia: Wait wait, don't sleep yet.

When I said that he look at me tiredly, he must be sleepy. Anyway I raise the medicine showing him what he need to do.

I hand him the tablet and a glass of water making him chuck down the medicine.

Mia: Now you can sleep peacefully.

Jace: Are you going now?

Did I forget anywhere I need to go again?

Mia: Huh?

Jace: Just, if you have nothing else to do. Can you not stay with me here.

When he said that I look him with a smile and jump in the bed he was sleeping.

Mia: No more words needed.

And I sat with a pillow on my back and his head on my thigh. He smile to me tiredly and in just a few second was fast asleep.

He must have been very tired. I was massaging his head while playing with his hair while looking at him sleeping peacefully. He finally look calm and relax as he sleep, I wonder why he always worries when he is awake. What are his worries that he could not even share with me? Iam curious.

But I decide not to waste this precious moment where I can look at my handsome boyfriend freely with unnecessary thoughts. And like that while watching him sleep peacefully, without notice I seems to have fallen asleep as well.
