12. Office meal.

Mia's Point of View.

Why we never thought of this, I dont know.

Maybe its because we dont wanna think about the dark times or maybe its because both me and Chris are fine.

But nonetheless it was true that we never thought of the place where all of this might have started.

That awkful place where our plane crash which take a sister away from me, a wife away from Chris and a mother from baby Claire.

Monica.

Maybe the tragedy we thought was over has yet to finish its t*****e, and the nightmare has not passed yet, rather it has just not reveal its ace piece yet.

Another page filled with mystery and unknown past has flipped pass me again. Curiousity filled me up everytime I goes through a new page but sometime along the line of reading this daily, I have came to term with it that, I just don't know this part of my life and would just remain curious and contend that tommorow Iam gonna learn something new again.

With that I start my day as usual. Actually its noon by now, I had a busy week this time which is not a strange thing actually as it happen almost always. I was too busy I didn't even have the time to drop by my home this week. Surgery after surgery, night shift after night shift, it was literally a mess. It was a tiring week.

And on that note, I have not seen Jace for a week as well.

Saying I miss him is an understatement.

Actually he offer to drive me home and to work everyday, but as tempting as that offer was; as I got to see him everyday, I unwillingly decline.

As he is a busy man himself and on the other hand if he became my personal driver, what will happen to my poor driving license, it wont have a chance to show up at its job even though that's its sole reason of being born. So, the considerate me chose this hell of a road of not seeing my boyfriend, not even once in a week. My point is, what a fool am I?

With that thinking my plan was to go see if Jace is home and if he is, then we take our dinner together. But as soon as that thought cross my mind, my phone light up with the screen flashing Dr. Jane calling.

She is one of my colleagues who was together with me from when we were in medical school. So you can kind of say we are kind of close. With that I pick up the phone

Mia: Hey! Jane, What's up?

Jane: Don't hey Jane me, where are you? If you don't come now I swear I will fall asleep resting my head on a patients open stomach. I cant take this anymore, come fast.

Well! This is definitely not a good morning call.

Mia: Well I can see that your night shift did not go that well. But sorry dear, you are calling the wrong person, its not my shift now.

I understand her annoyance though, taking a night shift and seeing the one who is gonna replace me in the morning is like seeing an angel coming personally just for me but not seeing that person at all is like recieving an angry devil made just for me.

Jane(agitate): No, you are suppose to change with me. Didn't you know Jose in on leave and you are taking his shift for today?

Jose is also a doctor, who is suppose to change with her. But he does not tell me anything about it . That little, does not even have the courtesy to inform me anything and he is already on a leave?

Mia(confuse): I think you are wrong, if not why didn't he said anything to me?

Jane: I don't know and I don't care. That's not the point now Mia. Are you coming or not, Iam dying in tiredness over here.

Mia:But....

Jane: It is your shift, now are you coming.

Well its not my shift according to me but who cares about what I know when there is a scary lady with unnecessary stern voice on my phone. I chose live over sleep I guess.

Mia: Okay okay, calm down woman. I'll be there in a jiffy.

Jane: You better be.

Why on earth does she sound so intimidating and stern even when she is that tired. Ohh scary!!!!!

Mia: Okay, okay!

With that I quickly hang up, a cranky Jane is not my cup of tea.

But I can understand , why she is so cranky. Because someone was suppose to change shift with her four hours ago, like four long hour ago and that someone is still here running while putting on her shoe and grapping her coat at the same time. You get my point right.

With that feeling of rush I quickly drive to the hospital with the thought of how to t*****e Jose for not telling me anything and leaving me to deal with cranky Jane. Thinking this I reach the hospital and was again rushing to the ER when my phone once again light up with a notification. But what caught my eye was not that notification but the notification that shows 23 missed call from Jose and more than 20 unread message from Jose. Now I understand why I wasn't informed or rather why he couldn't do so.

Most of the time, I hardly even know where my phone is when Iam busy in the hospital and when I get home I straight away go to bed so no time for phone. Oh! Did I mention I also have few 20 missed call from Jace and dad combined and also some few messages as well.

Iam so getting told off for this again. I should really get out of the habit of leaving my phone in silent and not carrying it with me. That is so gonna get me killed someday.

But I have bigger problem in hand right now, Jane. With that I sprint again. And soon I see a very tired and sleepy yet livid looking Jane. I started walking towards her with my hand folded in namaste step and a speech already prepared in my head.

Mia(quickly) : Iam so sorry, I forget to check my phone again and missed Jose call. I swear this wont happen again and even promise to take your night shift today so don't be mad okay?

Jane: Slow down, slow down. I never said I was mad, but I wont argue with you taking my shift. I dont have energy to hear your speech. I have got some sleeping to do, unlike you energetic young folks.

Mia(unimpressed): You are just three hours older than me?

Jane: So?

Touche, but she does not need to know that. Her being three hour older is being an enough downfall for me, I don't need another lose in that subject.

Mia: Seriously?

Jane: Umm. So work hard little one, Iam going, or I might fall asleep halfway so babye.

And before I even answer anything she is off, walking in a weird zig zag manner. I guess she really was tired. But is it safe to drive in that state.

While I was thinking this nurse Mary comes up rushing.

Mary: Quick! Patient in room 1001.

Mia(taking a deep breath) : Here we go again.

I mean, I literally just got here but who cares about that? Not even myself. Just as I was about to start rushing again, Jane call me or rather scream my name.

Jane(shouting): Mia, learn how to pick up calls, you fool.

Mia(mumbling) : I knew she was not gonna leave me out on that.

Her not commenting on something I did wrong, which affect her is just not a possibility. And she didn't even turn back or stop walking at all for that matter to shout that.

Haww, it annoys me. But again, I have other matter to attend to and just being annoyed is a waste of my time so here we go, waltzing right into another busy day.

Mia: What's the condition of the patient Mary?

Mary: He had a surgery one weeks back and there was no problem before but now suddenly he have hard time breathing, and his blood pressure is also dropping rapidly, and even his vital is not stable.

As you can see by now we were running off to start another busy day.

By the time I have a little break time its already 4 in the evening and hunger was a big fat understatement but me being me, I just wanna lay in this comfy chair a little bit more and just not get up. So between food and rest, I hesitantly pick rest. So here Iam lying in a weird but very comfortable position in this chair

Just then my phone ring, this time I remember to not put it in silent but I still forgot to take it with me, it was left in my office. Well I guess one step at a time huh.

Mia(monotone): Hello! Mia speaking.

The other person: So you do know how to pick up a phone huh? I thought you forgot how to.

Are all of them going to keep stating this today. Is this the new way of greeting people or something?

Mia: Hey! It was just a one time thing. You should not hold grudges like that, that black thought will make you grow old faster.

Jace: You really have guts, not picking my call for three days straight and you even have the face to say this when you finally pick up.

Well, I can't fight that. I never fight a battle I cant win.

Mia: Opps!

Jace: Don't opps me, this 'not knowing where your phone is' problems of yours, seriously is a BIG problem for me. I tell you this worry is gonna make me grow old quicker.

Mia: You know that does not actually make you grow quicker right?

Jace(mad): Seriously? That the point you get from all that?

Okay wrong point by Mia. Why am I becoming so silly, this is a time to persuade not to agitate.

Mia: Okay! Okay! Iam sorry, I swear ill try to keep my phone with me more okay?

Jace: This is the million time you have promise this.

Which is unsurprisingly true again. I rarely pick up calls mainly when Iam working cause I never carry the phone with me. Its goes as bad as, Jace call me in the morning for it to serve as a notification to call him back when he need me in the evening. This plan usually works very well but there are times like today where it prolonged on for three days.

Mia(in a quick speed): I know, I know, but I swear this time ill do it. Come on, don't be mad anymore. Your girlfriend has been working day and night everyday this week, I don't have the capacity in me to persuade you anymore, can't you take pity on me. Preety please. If I think more I swear my brain will run out of battery.

Jace(chuckling): Okay! Ill give in this time but you better keep your phone with you next time.

Well sweet talk always work or you can say Iam a very pitiable person or Its Jace, he never get mad at me anyway.

Mia: Count it as done.

And yes, this time I mean it; as you can see all of them are really worried because of it. But then again, last time too I mean it. I got a bad feeling about this one.

Jace: It better be that way. Anyway I didn't just call you to scold you, and as you picking up your call is a precious moment, lets get onto it. Had your lunch?

Well I guess, the grudge is still there. And another one will follow very soon .

Mia: Nop.

Jace(suspicious): Dinner?And better not lie.

See, did any of you also see that black thing coming

Mia(meekly): No.... But remember you say, you didn't call just to scold me.

How lame Mia, how lame. I literally facepalm so hard.

Jace(sighing): Come on angel, you cant keep on going like this. No proper meal nor sleep, at this rate you are gonna get sick again.

Another bomb of today has dropped again.

Mia(guilty): Sorry.

The one thing Iam very good at is making them worried, how sad!

Jace(worried): You know thats not what I wanna hear right? You know your health matters a lot and this is worrying not only me but even Chris and as unbelievable as it sound, Justin too.

Mia: I know, and Iam sorry but I swear I know what to do.

Jace:Go on..?

Mia: I have to always take care of myself first and then help others. And that include taking proper meal.

That word was always said by Jace, always. As the great me always very easily find an opportunity for him to say so.

Jace(chuckling): Now you are even stealing my words ?

Mia: This is not called stealing, this is called learning.

Genius's word right there. Iam proud of my vocabulary.

Jace: Whatever you say angel. Anyway what are you doing now?

Mia: Resting in my office why?

Jace: You refuse to take food yourself so I have to do the honours of bringing you the food myself malady.

Well this time Iam not gonna be a fool and refuse a chance of seeing him again so I very happily and readily accept.

Mia(chripy): Okay!

Jace(chuckling): That was unusual, you must have missed me.

Mia: Of course I did, I havent seen you in a week.

As I was saying that my door suddenly open giving me a little shock but what shock me more was the person who open the door.

Mia: Huh? You are here already?

Jace: Of course how can I have my angel frowning from missing me and hunger? And me not arriving? Thats just a big No!No!

With that he kept the tiffin he had with him in the table and come over to me and kissed me on my forehead making me grin in joy. And I also kiss his forehead.

Jace: And I miss you too, my little angel.

And yes, that just make me grin wider and happier.

Jace: As much as it is fun to see you smile , you have to eat now. Now come on .

With that both of us start eating, cause he also had yet to take his lunch.

Mia(curious): But how are you here so early?

Jace: I was here from before, had to sign the final agreement with Chris and his team.

Mia: So, you bring food from before? How do you know I would not have eat yet?

Jace: I prepare the food this noon cause whenever you are busy you rarely eat, and I have to come here anyway so two thing done. But I call to give you the advantage of my doubt. But clearly I was right.

And he just stare at me.

Mia: Okay, Okay I will definitely eat next time.

Jace: We are sure of that right?

Mia: Very.

I said that with a determined face which made him chuckle to himself and pat my hair as if saying good dog, which make me sneer at him, making him laugh out loud, while I continue to glare at him.

Jace: Okay, ill stop.

And he take his hand back. After which we finish our hearty lunch and decide to take some fresh air in the little terrace outside my office. I was sitting in the chair with my eye close and enjoying the warm of the soft sunlight.

Jace: I have been meaning to ask this for a while now, but is your neck okay?

Mia(confuse) : Huh?

Jace: Right from when we were eating, you have been touching your neck time and again and even now you are doing the same.

When he said that I realise, I have my hand on my neck.

Mia: Eh! Its nothing, I just sleep in a wrong posture yesterday so it got stiff and hurt a little.

Jace: Then you should have said something from before.

Mia: Its really okay, not a big deal.

And I shrugged it off, emphasising my point.

Jace(stern): What no big deal, you know you get sick easily, all this little things will tire you out and you will end up sick again.

Another bomb right there.

With that he got up and come to my backside and then softly start massaging my neck muscles. My head was literally rolling forward and backward freely. It felt so nice, it seems like the stiffness in my neck is gone just in a second.

Mia: Ahh, how did I ever forgot that you were so good at this?

Jace: Exactly! How did you ever forget, you have such a talented boyfriend?

Mia: I should have known you are never gonna miss an opportunity to praise yourself.

To that he just chuckle and continue to massage my neck, which make me feels like Iam in heaven.

Jace(worried) : But Mia, if you are too tired, you should go home now. Its nearly your off time anyway, only 10 minutes left.

Mia: Hehehe! You might not be happy about this!!!

Jace(sighing) : And that is?

I turn back and took his hand in mine and give him a big smile while he gave me an uneasy expression

Mia: I have a night shift tonight. Tatah.

While I gave him another grin, he return with a not so happy one.

Jace(confuse): But I thought it end yesterday? What did you do again?

Trust right there, everybody believe I did something when something goes in the wrong direction. They are true though so Iam not saying anything.

Mia: Well, its a very long story but yes I have to cover the shift tonight as well so cant go home.

Jace(sighing): Well okay! But dont overdo it okay?

Mia: Umm, Sorry I always make you worry. Today is like make Jace worry day or something.

Jace(chuckling) : You just try to stay healthy, and all my worries will be gone. Okay?

Mia: Emm, I will nurture my bodies so much that, I can be healthy forever.

Jace: Oh! I like that.

Mia: Okay now you go too, you must be busy as well.

Jace: Mehh I can managed. But I do have to go now, you take care okay?

Mia: Umm, love you.

Jace: Love you too.

And that is how a tiring yet sweet day pass by again.
