Why could I not kill my brothers murderer? All the evidence was spread out in front of me, my hands around her throat. And yet, I could not bring myself to do it. What was wrong with me? Was it a spell? Was she some sort of powerful witch? Every fiber of my being wanted to avenge my brother. He was my twin and the person I was most connected to. His body lay lifeless on the floor.

None of this was making any sense. Why was he here? Why take his life? Why keep his lifeless body around? My mind was a minefield of questions, but the biggest one of all was why I could not bring myself to kill this woman? Who was she? What was she?

Chapter 1. Alana & Bailey
Alana and Bailey had been inseperable since birth. The twins shared a deep and meaningful bond. Bailey was born a few minutes after his alpha sister, but he never felt any bitterness towards her for this. She was a beautiful force to be reckoned with and he was honored to be her second, eventhough he was an alpha in his own right. He bravely fought by her side and protected her at all cost. Although Alana had proven time and time again how strong she was. Many have tried to take her position from her. They had made the false assumption that a female alpha would be weak. If only I could frame the look on their faces as they realized their mistake before meeting their end. The last whom tried was still fresh in my mind. The smell of smoke was still on me. I had ordered the men to build pyres but I made sure to witness the bodies go up in flames. Burning the bodies was the only way to ensure that the dead remained that way. Alana also made sure that the dead always be treated with respect, no matter their crime. They were with the Moon Goddess now and only she could judge their souls. Not many understood this, but it was Alana's devotion to the Moon Goddess that made her into such a force. To all of the members of the pack, it was obvious that we were under the protection of the Moon Goddess. We had Alana to thank for our prosperity. As I walked back to the packhouse to give her a status report, I heard her voice and followed it. There she stood under the moonlight inside the stone circle. "Your Alpha's pride cost the lives of so many of you. He is not here to apologize for his error, but you need not pay for his mistakes any longer. You have a choice; leave this place as rogues and never step foot into our territory again, or pledge your loyalty to the Mayari Pack and accept me as your alpha." The shock on their faces was evident, although I expected that my sisters compassion was public knowledge by now. "Taking in more strays?" I asked as I approached them in the circle. "That is their choice to make brother. Now, release them from their binds" The first female I released was rubbing her wrists in painful confusion, and yet before I finished releasing the male on his knees next to her, she was already bowing. Her forehead was touching the dirt. "I pledge my loyalty to you and the Moon Goddess." "Speak your name." Alana said, looking down at her. "My name is Tara" The rest of the survivors were also bowing and pledging their loyalty to my sister. All except for one. Alana moved so that she was standing right in front of him. "Speak your name" she ordered in her alpha tone. The inner struggle was evident in his eyes. "My name.... My name.... is..... Stefan. My name is Stefan." He responded in a shaky voice. "Make your choice Stefan." She ordered again. "I...... I...... I can't follow you." He said, almost in tears. "Then you are free to leave with your life, but you only keep it if you never return on our lands. The moment you do, you forfeit the mercy given to you and I will strike you dead." Stefan was looking down in horror. I growled at him and the other pack members took an offensive stance, ready to strike. "Leave." Alana ordered and Stefan shakingly got on his feet and started running. There was nothing but silence for a few minutes as all you could hear were our breathing, our heartbeats and the footsteps of Stefan running away in the distance. Alana looked over at Matheo and Farah. "Make sure he made it out of our borders and check in with the patrol. We need to be sure there aren't any other surprises waiting in the shadows for us" They ran off into the forest before we heard them shift into their wolves. "Bailey, bring the cup" I quickly made my way inside to retrieve the ceremonial cup from its place on the altar. When I returned they had already lit all the torches around the stone circle. "Your previous alpha is dead because he could not accept my rejection. He sacrificed so many lives tonight for his own ego. I would never ask this of you, but I do demand your loyalty from this moment forward. In honor of the Moon Goddess, I offer you mercy and a new life as part of the Mayari Pack. A place is offered and it is now your duty to earn it, by fighting, training and living alongside your new brothers and sisters." Alana took out her dagger from her thigh holster, wrapped her hand around the blade, and sliced herself right over the ceremonial cup. As her blood dripped into it she looked into the eyes off all the new pack members. "I protect my own and I would lay down my life for my pack, all I ask is the same respect in return. The Moon Goddess spared your lives tonight for a reason, may you honor her mercy" She held out the dagger for Tara, who was quick to take it and slice her own hand. "I pledge my loyalty to you Alpha and I thank the Moon Goddess for this chance" The remaining three werewolves quickly followed her example. Alana took the first sip before passing it to the newest pack members. After tonight all our faiths were intertwined. "Bailey, I trust that you will ease them through this transition." "Of course sis, but I would appreciate a shower first. I stink!" Alana laughed and playfully punched me in the arm. "Why don't we all go to the lake and bathe in this beautiful moonlight?" I mindlinked the others who weren't on patrol to join us. The water sparkled beneath the moonlight. Alana's beautiful brown wolf transformed back into her human form as she plunged into the water naked. Other pack members were howling at the moon before transforming and joining her in the water. Tara was about to jump in, but she stopped besides me. "Has she always been like this?" She asked me. "My sister has always had more compassion than she should. Don't make her regret it" I answered while making my way into the water. There was something magical about swimming naked beneath the moonlight. I laid flat on my back and let the waters soak up all the blood and smoke that still clung to me. I let the water take it all away as the moonlight recharged all of us. I could feel the Moon Goddess smiling down on us.
