Things had felt strangely quiet over the past few days.
Not that the house was empty. Gloria and Terry were still roaming the halls, and Lillian was ever present, increasingly integrated into the daily life of the pack—but the silence was different. Something deeper, as if Sarina’s absence had drained the energy that used to fill this place.
I tried to ignore the constant discomfort gnawing at me. After all, Sarina had made her decision, and I would respect that. She was tired, and maybe it really was best for her to step back for a while.
