Staring The Game

1407 Words
Maybe my luck wasn’t that bad after all, as now I had a golden chance to live like a king. The game that I had many memories about from that boy was a colossal event in this world. It first started as a normal game, but rapidly grew and expanded to cover the whole world. Everything started to be based on it, education, work, even politics. The mystery behind this was due to a simple fact this game introduced to the players after a few months. “It appears even here in this weird world people are obsessed with living longer and cheating death.” I muttered to myself while I exited this bedroom and headed to the hall. The hall had a small space, at least in comparison to the halls in my palaces from before.  There was a small dining table, a strange shaped device that transmitted movable life-like images, an old carpet, and a rectangular big silver-red colored box. I recognized that box, as it was that game capsule which was mentioned by the sweet lady in the phone. I didn’t know how this boy had access to such a charming lady, even with his lowly life, and what was weirder he didn’t even try it out with her. Of course someone like this boy didn’t have a chance, but for me, huh, it was a piece of cake. I pictured my current image again and I sighed, I really need to work on my body. First of all, good healthy food was important, as for regular sleep and working out my body, it wasn’t an issue anymore. The game provided this service to those who play inside it. it trained the mind, and the mind trained the body, so basically I could rest assured about developing my body to the right direction. I opened the capsule and started to observe it. my sharp senses didn’t pick anything unusual, so I couldn’t yet understand how this piece of metal would be attached to my soul and nourish it. As I recall from that boy’s memories, the game had already started a couple of days ago.  He started to play as a swordsman, something called a class there. I smiled wryly, as I also found many memories about other classes like archers, magicians, and most important of all assassins. I felt like returning home when I thought about all this, maybe this game was the portal from this mortal world into my immortal world. After all, as cultivators raised their cultivation bases, their life spans would be elongated as a result. Everything seemed to fit in place, except I hesitated. I was very familiar with the assassin, that class that was typical of my previous profession as a killer. However, that boy had nearly zero memory about this class, so if I chose it, I would lose my great advantage here, knowledge. That boy played as a swordsman, for me sword cultivators weren’t that bad. My life ended at the hand of a strong sword cultivator, and I knew a lot of information and tricks about sword cultivators.  After some time of hesitation, I decided to go on and play like that kid, I didn’t want to lose all the future knowledge I had over this class. I didn’t hesitate anymore, as I moved and slept inside that casket like box and closed its lid on me, or it moved spontaneously from its own. After that, the place was totally dark inside, but gradually a light came from nowhere.  It started as a shy wisp of blue orange fire, then it blazed rapidly to become a blinding light that forced me to close my eyes, then I reopened them to be amazed by what I saw. Instead of being inside that strange box, I was standing in a wide place that had many lights in it. The most important of all, there was a stunning beauty standing in front of me.  Her beauty was something I never experienced before, and she made my throat dry just by looking at her. “Welcome to the Grid new player, are you ready to start joining millions of players and play the game?” I knew this game was called the Grid, a strange name that had no meaning to me. Instead, I was allured by the pearl in front of me, so I asked: “Mat I know the name of the goddess?” My words seemed to be sudden for her, as she paused for a moment before laughing a really sect destroyer grade laugh before saying: “Don’t get me wrong, but I’m only a virtual data projection.” I didn’t understand a word from what she said, except I felt she was trying to convey some meaning to me. I asked: “Are you a real person?” “Nope, I’m just a data projection like I told you. You are really a funny kid. Anyway, it seems to me you are ready to start the game, so have you decided about your game ID?” “My ID?!” I asked with a loss. “Your game name, do you have one in mind?” The memories of this moment came to me from the kid, as he chose foolishly his name and the name of his father. I wasn’t planning on going by that kid’s name in this world, as I would use my true name here. “Ozwald.” “Ozwald, unique name, huh? So, Ozwald, you need to choose a family name to be known with,” this beauty said with a chuckle. “Family name?” I repeated as I understood why that kid chose his father’s name back then. It seemed he missed being with his father, and as he couldn’t use his father’s name in real life, he decided to use it here.  Poor kid, he didn’t know even here he wasn’t safe, and this desire of him would be the cause of his demise. If it’s a second name, then I would love to go by the name I chose to myself back then. “Let it be Ozwald the just.” “Ok Ozwald the just, here is the Grid you need to have a test first. This test will measure all your hidden potentials, and then the system will analyze that.  According to that test, you will have your attributes determined, and might even obtain some skills or a secret mission based on how high you perform. Are you ready?” This chick was really quick and practical, she didn’t even give me a chance to get to know her. She seemed pretty real to me, unless some punk was playing a joke and this was an illusion technique.  If I was back in my world, I would immediately suspect that, but here there was no cultivation at all. The test this hottie was speaking about was a series of battle simulations, where the kid was nearly killed at its beginning. Fight was my specialty and killing was my signature, so I said with confidence: “Give me a dagger.” “Oh, you want to play as an assassin,” she commented suddenly, and before she even continued her words I interrupted her by saying: “No, I want to play as a swordsman.” “If so then daggers won’t work, you need to use a sword,” she said while a variety of swords appeared in front of me. I looked towards this huge collection of variable swords in daze, each one of them wasn’t less than the mightiest weapon in my world. I underestimated this Earth, they had a very advanced forging system. I wasn’t feeling awkward now, as any sword here was enough to make any cultivator drool at. I moved a couple of steps as I checked every sword carefully. If I had to use swords, then I had to use the fittest of them. I made up my mind, as I picked up two swords while saying: “These two will do the task.” “Are you sure? Here in this test you won’t be able to use any skill whatsoever, you will deal alone with your enemy. Can you use two swords proficiently?” I glanced over at her, she was concerned about me, and that was a good sign. I smiled confidently as I said: “Don’t worry, I can handle it.” “As you like, let the test start.” Suddenly all the swords disappeared as they appeared out of thin air. In that boy’s memories, he faced a kid who used to bully him on his street. If my enemy was him, then this would turn out to be easier than I expected, but when my enemy appeared in front of me I was shocked. The one who appeared wasn’t that kid, he was that sword cultivator who sneakily killed me. “How can this be possible?!!”
