The Beginner Test

I looked with doubt and question towards that stunning beauty, who explained: “Here we used your memories and found your most feared enemy. we can’t make him have his former powers or abilities, so he will only be like you, having only his weapon without any skills or special ability.  The test is simple, you will face this enemy and we will analyze your battle, if you have the upper hand, we will raise the stats of him step by step until you can’t keep up.  We will analyze your fight and determine your basic attributes plus any innate stat you might have. If you are lucky and got an exceptional evaluation, then you might gain bigger than just stats, even secret classes won’t be strange to have. Good luck for you, player.” Her words brought back the same memory of that kid, as he didn’t last for more than ten seconds inside and the test was over. I looked to the face of my mortal enemy, and I hoped he would be really here for me to kill him. I didn’t understand half of that chick’s words, but I knew what I should do. I should simply do what I excelled at, kill. I glanced at the two swords in my hands, they were long slim swords, the type that could grant me easy mobility. I waved them simultaneously, as I was used to short swords or daggers, but these two swords weren’t much different. “Let’s dance.” He raised his broad sword and pointed it to me as a reply. I didn’t wait for him to move, as I moved first. As I took my first steps I realized the shortcoming of this body of mine, as this boy was still small and short. His arms weren’t as my previous self, they were limiting my ability to attack freely, but who was I to be fazed by this? I covered the short distance between the two of us and as that sword cultivator waved his sword aiming for my head, I paused, retreated a couple of steps then I jumped high in the air. I was able to evade and cross over his sword, and my two swords moved in unison to land over his body. If he was alive and real he would have two deep wounds at his chest and abdomen, lethal wounds which were enough to claim his life. However that wasn’t what happened here, as his body bled for a moment before it healed itself again like nothing happened. Even his clothes, which were a simple tight red coat, were intact without any speck of dust or trace of damage. I glanced towards that beauty who just shook her head. I realized I couldn’t kill this sword cultivator here, then what should I do? As his body healed, he restored his ability to fight again, so he moved with a higher speed towards me just as I landed on the ground. His sword moved faster and stronger than before, but I repeated my evasion maneuver. This wasn’t a skill I learned, but a movement technique that I created. The golden point of it was it didn’t require any spiritual energy at all to be performed, and it was the only technique that I could use here right now. I successfully evaded his attack once more, and I jumped high in the air as I used my two swords to cause deadly injuries, but I didn’t celebrate this time. I knew he would heal, and apparently he would grow stronger. My thoughts came true, as he magically healed like nothing just happened to him. He also got stronger, his movement became smoother and faster, but this wasn’t enough to stop me. Not this time, nor the time after, or the one that came later. I kept killing him and he kept healing and growing stronger until my technique began to show some flaws. His reaction speed began to show obvious progress, as he tried more than once to evade my swords, and he barely failed. I lasted for five minutes now, and I lost count on how many times I inflicted deadly wounds on him, but I wasn’t yet satisfied. If I wanted to create my own legend here as I was in my previous life, I needed something special. This was an opportunity here that I wasn’t planning to let it slip my grasp. So, I tried to raise the stakes and began to do a modified higher version of my movement technique, although this one consumed my stamina like a fat kid eating candies. This upgraded version included side movement in the air. It was nearly impossible to achieve using this weak body of that kid, but I had to find another alternative. The trick was about using a double kick, one fast and one slow, with a delayed effect. This helped me to buy more time, nearly three minutes, before that enemy began to adapt to my technique using his superb reactions. This time, he got me on the back foot and I began to withdraw trying to evade his sword attacks that came like flashing thunder bolts. During defense, I used my two swords to block his flashy sword as hard as I could, and I managed to last for more than a couple of minutes thanks to my vast experience at detecting danger. Every time he tried to attack me from a desperate angle, I sensed it and then moved the closest sword to block my blind spot for me. I kept resisting desperately until I failed to react in time and I got hit by his sword, a strike that was strong enough to send my body rolling in the air for many meters before falling heavily on the ground. This was the only time that I failed to match his attack speed, just one single mistake and that was it, I lost. “Congratulations player Ozwald the just, you managed to survive for eleven minutes and twenty four seconds. That’s a new record to have here, as the longest time recorded before was only four minutes and forty nine seconds.  Your evaluation is exceptional, and you will be granted special rewards based on your amazing performance.”
