Rae’s point of view:
Everyone was quiet for a second as they stared at me. My brother placed his hands on my shoulder both trying to comfort me and protect me at the same time.
Elder Norman cleared his throat, “How long have you known?”
“Known what?” I wondered.
“How long have you known that you possess two powers? Surly before today? We could have avoided a scene.” He seemed to be getting upset.
“I didn’t know anything till this morning. I thought I would be stuck with one power like everyone else.” I rushed to assure them that I wasn’t trying to make a scene.
Elder Norman shook his head, “It has been a few hundred years since this village has had a dual magic witch. The only one I know of that is alive today, besides you, lives deep in Lunar territory, his name is Eli. The entrance to his hide out is so well hidden that none of the Lunar pack’s patrols have ever found it or any witch for that matter. Though, no one dares wander into Lunar territory while this peace exist so who even knows if he is still alive.”
“Wait, so I am not the only one?” I was starting to get excited, “Does he ever come to the village?”
Norman shook his head again, “No, not for a long time. He didn’t even help in the war despite choosing to settle around here. He said he would stay out of our affairs, that his power would make things too unequal. Eli was always a loner and steered clear of people for the most part even before the war. He all but disappeared during the war. Before that people would spot him strolling around town from time to time. With how many years have passed he could have easily moved to a different town so don’t waste your time looking for him, not to mention the war that would start.”
“Don’t worry we aren’t looking to start a war,” My brother interjected.
“Good. We want to avoid a war. However, Rae, with your two abilities being great for combat we would like you to train with the village warriors. You will be a great asset if a war does occur again.”
“NO!” Alex shouted his face turning beat red causing me to jump.
“What do you mean no? I want to fight and protect the village. To protect you.” I said looking at Alex pleading with him.
“We already lost Mom and Dad to the war a couple years ago. I cannot lose you too,” Alex said with tears pool at the corner of his eyes threatening to brim over.
I rushed to hug him, “Alex, I understand. But I need to do this to avenge them and prevent anyone else we love from dying. I cannot stand on the sidelines, not when I could make a difference.”
“I don’t like it sis.”
“But you won’t stop me?”
“No.”
I nodded turning to the elders.
“You start tomorrow,” Norman simply stated turning and walking out the door. The other Elders nodded at us and turned to leave as well.
……
Later on laying on my bed, I realized I never asked what powers Eli had. Was he like me with fire and water or was he another combo. Maybe he was a healer and could control plants. Maybe he could manipulate air and fly, I haven’t seen anyone who has mastered that. Could he teach me how to control both powers at once or even combine them? What could I learn from him? Was he even still out there? I guess that was unlikely. What reason would he have to stay around the village? He probably fled during the war if no one has seen him since. But I guess it doesn’t matter. I cannot go into Lunar territory. A witch in werewolf territory is just asking for trouble and not just for me. I want to protect this village not endanger it. I cannot wait to start training. I finally get to be a warrior.
