Birthday Ceremony Part 1

Rae's point of view: Sunlight streamed in from the window hitting my face. I squeezed my eyes shut trying to stay in bed a few more minutes. My hair still hasn’t settle and neither has my mind. What happens if I don't have one form of magic come the ceremony? Would I even get one then? Alex was knocking on the door, "Get up Rae. You need to get ready for your birthday ceremony!" I sighed unhappy to leave the warm covers, "Okay, I'm getting up." I stumbled across the room to the bathroom listening to the wood creak underneath my feet. I turned the water on in the shower stepping in letting the water warm my skin and steam the air. I pulled shampoo through my hair as it flashed between blue and red. What was it going to be? I loved both forms and they work so well together. Fire and water together were able to create the steam around me in this shower. They worked so well together… I reluctantly got out of the shower and brushed my teeth. I opened the bathroom door letting the steam escape into my room. Alex had laid out my ceremony dress for me. All ceremony dresses are woven with magic and designed like your hair to match the magic type you settle on. The dress shimmers and constantly shifts colors until its put on by its owner on her 16th birthday. The magic aura of the wearer is then sealed to it and it takes on its permanent color, never able to be used again. Ceremony dresses are very special this way as weaving magic into fabric takes a very long time and a lot of skill. The only other time you really see magic woven into a garment is for protection on the battlefield. For those with more money you might see a few items that enable or enhance an owner’s abilities but it is very rare. I pulled the dress over my head worried about what color it would be as it mixed with my magic aura. I started lacing up the front bodice as the dress started swirling blue and red. I wonder what magic I'm stuck with. I know most love perfecting one skill and becoming the best at it but I'm so torn and I don't want to choose. I guess I am about to see what magic I will be doing for the rest of my life. The dress slowly stopped spinning. The bodice was a deep beautiful red while the skirt was a flowing blue. This can't be. The dress should be one color not two. As I looked in the mirror I saw my hair stopped shifting between colors as well. One half was red the other half blue. Not only that but I watched my eye color shift from brown to one eye blue and one eye red. Eye color only changed for the most powerful of magic users. My brother while good at what he does still has his brown eye color. Not even a single fleck of gold in them. We weren't a particularly powerful bloodline so why did my eyes change? Alex was knocking on the door again, "Are you almost ready in there?" I didn't reply, just staring at my reflection in disbelieve. Alex, "Hello, Rae, Hello?" "Sorry" I said rushing to the door. Pausing for a second before turning the handle. Alex's jaw literally dropped in shock when he saw me, "You have two abilities?... Wait… Did your eyes change too?" I nodded, "I haven't tested my powers yet today but my guess is that I kept both water and fire?" Alex stuttered, "That's not possible.... everyone only gets one." I didn't bother to answer. I was proof enough as is.
