chapter 6 The morning sunlight poured into the room, casting a golden hue on the walls. Amara sat by the window, staring out into the garden below. John walked in with two cups of coffee, setting one down beside her. “Good morning,” John said casually, sitting on the opposite chair. Amara hesitated for a moment before picking up the cup. She didn’t return his greeting, but after a long pause, she said, “John, I think we need to talk.” John raised an eyebrow but remained silent, sipping his coffee. Amara looked down at her hands. “I married you to make my family proud. That’s all. I wanted to honor my father’s wishes, and this was the only way.” John set his coffee down, his expression unreadable. “I see,” he said simply. “I didn’t think you’d care,” Amara continued. “You’re always so distant. But... you’ve surprised me.” She hesitated, her voice softening. “You’ve been kind to me, more than I expected. Even if sometimes you are rude and care less about what I do, you... you’re still there.” John leaned back in his chair, his gaze steady. “I don’t know how else to be. You’re my wife and even if I don't love you, that doesn't mean I hate you too, Amara. I’ll do what I can for you when I can.” Amara’s chest tightened. She had expected anger, or at least frustration. Instead, there was understanding. Meanwhile, across the city, Alara stepped off the bus, clutching her bag tightly. She looked around the bustling streets, her heart pounding. “Excuse me,” she called out to a passerby. “Do you know where I can find...?” The man barely glanced at her before walking away. Alara sighed and adjusted her bag strap. She didn’t know anyone here, and the weight of uncertainty pressed down on her. A sleek black car suddenly swerved into her path, screeching to a halt inches away. She froze, her eyes wide. The driver jumped out, visibly panicked. “Miss! Are you okay?” Alara nodded slowly, her voice trembling. “I... I think so.” “Let me make it up to you,” the man insisted. “Do you need a place to stay? I know someone who can help.” Alara hesitated, but desperation won. “Alright. Thank you.” Back at the company, John sat at his desk, reviewing reports when his assistant entered. “Sir, we’ve got a new employee in the marketing department. She seems... lost. Her name is Alara,” the assistant said, handing John a file. John froze. “Alara?” he repeated, flipping through the pages. When he saw her picture, his heart skipped a beat. “It’s her.” “Do you know her, sir?” John shook his head. “No. Just... make sure she’s taken care of. Arrange a car for her and cover her accommodation costs. But don’t let her know it’s from me.” The assistant nodded and left as John wondered what she could possibly be doing here. He didn't know why she came but he knew for a fact that he couldn't just leave her to her fate Alara settled into her new apartment, marveling at the unexpected kindness she had received. She had a job, a home, and even a car. But who was behind it all? Days later, she ran into Lily at a coffee shop. “Alara!” Lily exclaimed, her face lighting up. “Lily!” Alara gasped, throwing her arms around her old friend. “I can’t believe it’s you!” They sat down together, catching up on days of lost time. But Alara noticed something off about Lily. “Lily, is everything okay?” Alara asked. Lily hesitated, her hands trembling around her coffee cup. “It’s noting. I'm fine.” “What do you mean? I know something is wrong and you don't want to tell me. Stop lying to me lilly. Am your friend right and by the way I know it has something to do with that unknown caller.” “He wants me to do something very bad to someone I know. Someone I....,” Lily confessed in complete lost. “But I can’t. I could never betray him like that. She said looking at alara. But...but I must, if not I will lose them.” lilly whispered. Alara frowned. “You have something like this going on in your head and you didn't tell me". Well who ever it is you are told to betray, you have to tell him.He deserves to know.” “I can’t,” Lily whispered. “Dimitri is threatening me. If I don’t do what he says...” “We’ll figure it out,” Alara said firmly. “You’re not alone in this.” Back at the mansion, Amara paced the living room, her thoughts in turmoil. Her lover had broken up with her, accusing her of being distracted. And he was right—she couldn’t stop thinking about John. She found him in the study, going over some documents. “John,” she said quietly. He looked up, surprised to see her. “Yes?” “I... I just wanted to thank you,” she said, her voice trembling. “For everything. For being patient with me, for caring even when I didn’t deserve it.” John’s expression softened. “Amara, you don’t have to thank me. I’m just trying to do what’s right.” Tears welled up in her eyes. For the first time, she saw him not as a cold, distant figure, but as someone who genuinely cared. As the days passed, Amara found herself drawn to John in ways she hadn’t expected. She began cooking for him, taking care of the house, and even accompanying him to events. Slowly, she started to see the man beneath the surface. On the other side of the world, Anthony and Isabella where able to find John location with the help of an organization. They finally arrived at the city with a mission of getting John to sign the document of his property being transferred into his name. They settled down in a small rented apartment. “I need to talk to John,” Anthony said urgently. Isabella frowned. “what's the guarantee that he will listen?” “He will if we play the cards right. And we also have to kill Damian ” Anthony said, his voice deep and cold. "It won't be easy but we didn't come this far to just give up. Even in another country far away, John finds himself surrounded in the mist of wolfs. Those who claim to love and those who want to be loved.
