    It was surmised that when Lazarus finally snapped, he saw Sela not as his wife, but as one of the many targets he had gone for.  Only his sons came home and found out what he’d done, so he decided they should die too.     Jace, everyone knew by then, had killed Lazarus to keep the man from killing Jordan, or himself. The court ruled it self defense or justifiable homicide. That was a heavy burden to carry on the shoulders of a boy of nineteen. A boy who was legally an adult but not yet a man. Guilt also shadowed Jace. Guilt that he couldn’t protect his mother.     After donning his Stetson, Jace turned back to her and held out a hand, bringing her out of her thoughts. A smile crinkled the corners of his eyes, making her knees feel like Jell-O. That smile always did that to her.
