To The Bride And Groom

983 Words
Cecil froze. A forty-four thousand dollar gown? Gabriel Russo just casually bought her such an expensive gown. Where did he get the money from? It became gravely difficult for Cecil to put on that gown. “Are you done? Let’s go?” Gabriel Russo, who had been respectfully waiting for Cecil outside the room while she got dressed, was getting impatient. “One second,” Cecil replied briskly and hurriedly put on her new dress. It fit her perfectly, and that was another cause for shock. How did Gabriel Russo know her size easily? Cecil got dressed, wore her hair down, and stepped out of the room. Gabriel Russo, for the first time since they met, gave her a close enough look and eventually saw how pretty she was. He was mind-blown. But, he was not going to let her see him admire her in that way, so he stuck out his chest and maintained his cold aura. Gabriel Russo led the way. Once outside, he held the door of his Hyundai salon car open for Cecil to get in, and then he shut the door and went around to the other side. Soon they were on their way to dinner. On the way, all Cecil could think about was how Gabriel Russo could afford her dress. “Husband...” Cecil muttered, confused about what to call Gabriel since she could no longer understand him. Before, she could easily address him because she thought he was her mate, financially speaking. Gabriel Russo heard Cecil trying to talk to him, but he deliberately ignored her, stretching her appetite. Cecil bit her tongue. There was the popular Russo family in Nighten, but she wondered if Gabriel Russo belonged to that same family. Cecil swallowed her question, afraid that if she dared to ask, she would find out that he was the same Russo who was rumored to be the ruthless CEO of Russo Harbour Firm. Everyone knew the Russo family were disciplinarians. The legacy of being a family of extreme discipline never left them. From generation to generation, it remained exactly like that. “This dress...it...” Cecil found her voice and started to speak to Gabriel again. Gabriel Russo listened to her, but he kept his poise and waited for her to land. “The dress is expensive, Gabriel...” Cecil said. Gabriel Russo barely turned to look at her. “How much is it?” he asked. Cecil was confused. Was he not the one who bought it? Didn’t he see the price? “Forty-four thousand dollars...” Cecil said with a trembling voice. Gabriel Russo raised an eyebrow. He didn’t even know how much the dress cost. The family expenses would naturally include it at the end of the month, so what did he care? Besides, it was forty-four thousand dollars expensive. He smiled inwardly at Cecil’s innocence. He could buy her the ground that she walked on, he could buy her the moon, but little did she know. Of course, he was the dreaded Gabriel Russo of the Russo family, but she was not going to find out so easily. “There must be a mix-up. I didn’t buy it for that amount,” Gabriel Russo lied. “Oh...” Cecil said. She immediately became sure that the dress was a replica. Cecil’s apprehensiveness died down, and she became somewhat comfortable around Gabriel Russo again. Gabriel Russo noticed this and smiled inwardly. Shortly after they arrived at the venue, a valet came to park their car. Cecil had thought that Gabriel Russo was taking her to his family house for their wedding dinner, unknown to her, that he had organized a private dinner with just his grandmother, his parents, and nobody else. Gabriel Russo secretly eyed every worker at the restaurant as he walked in. The fact that he was a well-known figure, coupled with the fact that he had just gotten married, and also because the restaurant belonged to the Russo family, Gabriel Russo had to ensure that not one of his staff blew his cover. They dared not throw themselves on the ground when they saw him. “Here comes the happiest and latest couple,” Elizabeth Russo cooed when she saw Gabriel and Cecil coming in. Cecil observed what was in front of her. Elizabeth Russo, obviously the grandmother of Gabriel Russo, sat to the right of a man, advanced in age and status. Cecil squinted. Why was there something so familiar about him? This Russo family, were they not the popular ones on everyone’s lips? Maybe she should check deeper. “Cecil, meet my parents. You already know grandma...” Gabriel Russo suddenly said. Cecil curtseyed politely. She was so nervous, she didn’t know what to think. She was skeptical. If she did too much and this was not the original Russo family, she would not forgive herself for acting so meek and humble in front of people that didn’t deserve it. But what if they were the Russo family that were popular? She would lose a lot of things if disrespect was the first impression she gave on her in-laws, who happened to be the famous Russo family. Cecil took a seat stiffly in front of Gabriel’s mother, Helen. Helen’s expression was straight at that point, and Cecil found it hard to know what the woman thought of her. “Happy married life,” Elizabeth Russo, the most excited, cooed. “A toast?” The man who had been quiet the entire time finally said, with his eyes placed firmly on Cecil. Cecil trembled at the sound of his commanding voice. As soon as Jackson Russo announced the toast, he got up with his glass of wine in hand and raised it. “To the bride and groom,” he said. “To the bride and groom,” everyone else replied, standing with their glasses raised.
