Having a Mate

568 Words
"Mate?" I said questionably. This wasn't possible. I'm a human. there is no way I'm mated to a wolf, let alone an alpha. "Who are you?" He said, more like demanded. "I'm Nicole, I'm friends with Stella and Adam," I said a little intimidated by his look, but I wasn't going to show it.  He just looked at me and walked away. Well, that was weird. If I'm suppose to be his mate, why wasn't he happy like I had seen Adam and Amy when they had met for the first time. The alpha walked back up to the stage and continued Adam and Amy's mating ceremony. Stella came rushing over. "Are you okay? What did he say to you?" Stella said as fast as she could. "He said mate then asked my name, I told him and before I could say anything he walked away. What's his name anyway?" I asked, now curious about this alpha. "His name is Lucien. He really called you mate?" she asked puzzled. "Yeah, but how can that be, I'm just a human. I didn't think wolves and humans could be mates," I said while looking in her eyes hoping she had an answer. "It isn't unheard of but very rare, especially for an alpha, no offense," she said. I know she wasn't judging, but I'm sure people would if they found out I was his mate. I know he could reject me and honestly i wouldn't blame him. Deep down I was still broken from my last relationship. That's why I moved to Salt Lake in the first place a year ago. Was i even ready to be in another relationship, let alone one with a wolf? After the ceremony they had a huge party. I actually had fun. Stella and I danced a lot of the night, until a man asked her to dance, I gave her a look of understanding and went to go sit. I was about to sit when a hand grabbed my hair and spun me around. It was Lucien. He was taller up close, I would say 6 feet. I felt small next to him being 5'3, but even in heels he towered over me. I felt tingles on my arm where his hand was. We stared at each other for a minute before he spoke. "Would you like to dance?" He asked. I was a little shocked. "You really want to dance with me?" "Yes I do, now let's go before I change my mind," he said and dragged me to the dance floor.  We danced quietly for a couple minutes until I found my voice to say what I wanted before I changed my mind. "If you're going to reject me, just do it now and get it over with," I said without looking him in the eyes. "Why would I reject you?" he asked, amusement laced in his question. "Because I'm human and you're an alpha. I know some wolves view humans as weak and I would understand if you wanted to. No hard feelings," I said as I was pulling away from him. His grip didn't let up. "I'm not going to reject you. I don't care if you're human" I looked up and into his eyes and saw he was telling the truth. Maybe I could give this a shot. I just hope  it didn't come back to bite me.
