Chapter 1
Farold subconsciously adjusted his flipped collar, attempting to cover up the ambiguous marks on her body.
He frowned slightly and shouted angrily, "Spit it out, Lynna! I'm the director. Of course I have to prioritize the sick children at the orphanage. Just because I didn’t come to the hospital to visit my son first, you want to divorce me?"
I calmly waited for him to finish yelling, then slowly handed over the pre-prepared divorce agreement and said in a calm voice, "Yes, sign it, let's leave some dignity for each other."
Looking at the divorce agreement with black text on a white background, Farold was stunned on the spot for a moment.
He thought I was just saying it out of spite, but he didn't expect that this time I had even prepared the divorce agreement.
The people around us couldn’t help but sigh.
No one could have expected that my husband and I, this famous model couple on i********: and the charitable couple in this city, would end up in such a disastrous marriage.
I placed the agreement down casually and turned to leave.
My mom hurriedly caught the divorce agreement, scanned it from top to bottom, and her face grew increasingly grim.
She quickly grabbed my hand.
"Lynna! Matters concerning family should be discussed privately, there are so many people watching! Marriage is no joke."
My sister-in-law, Kym Adair, also stepped forward to say,
"Yes, Lynna. Over the years, my brother has always accommodated you by going back to your home for Christmas."
"He was willing to give up his good job in Ekavale for you and accompanied you to start a business in Atheta."
"When your dad was sick, if it weren't for my brother seeking help everywhere, you wouldn't have been able to get an appointment with a provincial expert so quickly! Now you want to divorce him! It's truly a case of betrayal!"
The crowd, hearing Kym's indignant accusations, all turned their criticism towards me.
However, I turned a deaf ear, pulled away my mom's hand, and said coldly to Farold, "Sign it, see you at court tomorrow morning."
Upon hearing the news, my dad rushed over and slapped me across the face.
"How ungrateful you are! If it weren't for Farold's help, I would have died long ago!
"Even if you spent your whole life working yourself to the bone for the Adair family, it still wouldn’t be enough to pay them back. How can you then dare to divorce him?
"Today, I'll teach you a lesson on his behalf, you ungrateful wretch!"
As he spoke, he raised his fist again, ready to punch me in the face, but Farold desperately held him back.
Farold’s face flushed red, and he looked at me anxiously.
"Lynna, please explain this to your dad right away!"
My mom also urged, "Lynna, just apologize to your dad, and let’s go back and live well with Farold."
I shook my head with a cold expression, "No, I've had enough of him."
"What did you say?" Farold instinctively released his grip, and my dad's fist struck me without hesitation.
I turned my head, spat out a mouthful of blood, and my whole head was buzzing.
Farold hurriedly had someone bring some ice and, despite his hands turning bright red from the cold, applied it to my injury.
He always behaved like this, pretending to show me meticulous care in front of outsiders.
But the neglect and indifference inside feel like an ice pack pressed against my cheek, only I know how it feels.
Farold said in a crying voice, "Lynna, I know you still can't forget your first love.
"But I don't mind. I will treat you a hundred or a thousand times better than him.
"As long as you stay by my side, I will always wait for you to turn back."
Farold kept crying and hinting, and everyone pointed their fingers at my nose, scolding me for being unchaste, a promiscuous woman.
My dad kicked me in a fit of anger.
"I've only had one woman in my life, your mom. How could I have such a shameless daughter!
"If you dare to divorce Farold today, I won't treat my illness any longer. Tomorrow I'll go back to the countryside and wait to die!"
My mom sat down too, beating her chest and wailing, "Oh dear, what a tragedy!"
Farold begged me humbly, and the people around me urged me to go back and live a peaceful life.
I pushed him away with all my strength, "It's over, Farold. I don't love you anymore."
Our marriage should have ended when he placed me and our son after Dollee Morriss and her child.
Farole felt as if struck by lightning, his lips instantly turning pale.
