"The story of my life, I take her home,
I drive all night to keep her warm and time is frozen..."
-One Direction
(Josef Blackthorn's POV)
All I can see is darkness... I tried to run and look around, but the darkness seems to have no end. My whole body is aching, and my head is spinning. Where am I? What is happening?
"Josef, sweetheart..." A voice suddenly calls me out of nowhere. It is a sweet voice. Unfamiliar to my ears yet something is telling me that I know who is the owner of this sweet voice that seemed to take away my pains.
Then, I saw her, and everything seemed to brighten up.
She is very beautiful with her straight long black hair and beautiful blue eyes. Her smile is warm as she pulled me into a tight hug.
I want to ask her who she is but I am tongue tied. Besides, her warm hug made everything feel better.
It made me feel like I just found my other half....
Wait?! Other half?!
"W-who are you?" I voiced out.
She grinned at me and giggled like a teenager. "It's me, Emma! I'm your wife, silly."
Right then and there, I felt the hands of time spin backwards.
We were at a library. We were both crouching over a pen. Both of us were on our early twenties, very young and carefree...
"I think this is yours." I heard my younger self murmuring as we stood up.
"Uh.. Thanks." She took the pen from my hand. She started walking away when I called out.
"Uh... Can we grab some coffee... It is uh.. cold outside and..." It was the first time I tried to ask a girl out. I am usually very busy helping my father on our family business or studying my lessons.
I gulped when she smiled. I have a crush on Emma Tomlin since we were freshmen students. Who wouldn't? She is very intelligent and nice.
"Sure."
Then, the scene shifted into a grand dining area.
"Father and mother, I would like you to meet Emma, the love of my life. Love, this are my parents, Anthony and Ellen Blackthorn."
"What the hell are you talking about? You know that you are already engaged to Victor Hayne's daughter! You are marrying her or I will disown you." My father roared.
"But I don't love Vienna!" I said, my arms tight around Emma's waist.
"Josef..." She said worriedly on my ear.
"I'm marrying no one except for Emma and that is final. You can disown me for all I care."
We were in front of Emma's mother. She was furious because her daughter is marrying a scoundrel who doesn't even have a proper job instead of a rich man who can give her everything. I did not bother telling her that I also came from a rich family. What for? My dad already disowned me. I can't even apply for a job on companies because my dad had my name blacklisted.
Her mother doesn't approve of our relationship, but we don't care anymore. We love each other and its all that matters.
The scene shifted once more. This time, we are inside a small chapel.
Emma is wearing a simple white dress while I am dressed on my best suit. I smiled, we are getting married and it is the happiest day of my life...
We moved to a little town called Jacksonville and I had a job as a cashier on its local department store. The pay wasn't that big but it was enough to pay for our bills.
Then came the pregnancy and Helena's birth. That was the best day of my life...
Emma had to start working too to support our family's needs. It hurts to see that I came from a rich family but my wife and daughter needed to do a lot of sacrifice.
The years passed and I saw that our daughter is already growing up but she seems to be antisocial. She doesn't talk to anyone except for me and her mother. Besides, I noticed the weird way Julian Ashcroft was staring at her. It gave me chills whenever he caught me catch him gazing at my daughter. Sure, he might have a crush on my daughter but I genuinely think that something is off with him.
Add the fact that I learned my mother-in-law was pressuring my wife to divorce me and marry Tristan Water instead.
One day, I came into a tough decision. I talked to the old woman to stop her from forcing my wife to divorce me. I also told her that we are going to a very far place to get away from them.
But I did not know that that would be the day of my doom...
I never though that the son of my employer would be capable of torturing a person because of obsession. Obsession with my only daughter...
"Why?" I asked the boy as he raised his whip. I am chained on the middle of a what I call a torture chamber. I just woke up after a bucket of ice-cold water was dumped on my face.
"Why? Because you are going to take my Helena away from me!!" He screams as he brought down his whip across my back.
I scream as pain exploded in my back. He continued to laugh as he whipped me like I was some sort of an animal. He also kicked me repeatedly and made me his very own punching bag. All of this, he did while smiling wildly. The boy is crazy and I am afraid for my family's life.
The last thing I remember was getting dumped on the roadside and everything became blank.
I woke up panting on my bed. I remember everything.
Oh my God! I remember everything!! Emma! Helena! My wife and daughter! How could I ever forget my wife and daughter?!
I looked at Vienna who is sleeping soundly beside me. How could my parents lie to me? How can they say that Vienna and I are in a relationship when they know that I have a family who probably thought that I am dead?
My daughter... She must be in her college now. I hope Julian didn't do anything bad to her.
I remembered my wife's serene face. She may not be as stunning as Vienna but I know that she is a thousand times better. She loved me because of who I am and not because of my family money.
I got my phone and dialled my Private Investigator's number. He answered the call on the first ring and I grinned. Does this man ever sleep?
"Landon, I want you to search for a woman named Emma Blackthorn. She lives on Jacksonville. Send me her number as soon as you found it. I'll send you a check first thing in the morning."
"Yes."
And I ended the call.
I hope it's not too late to come back to my family...
I looked at Vienna. She, along with my family, has a lot of explaining to do...
I stood up and left the room. I can't sleep next to Vienna anymore. Now, I understand why it always felt so wrong...
(3rd Person's POV)
Vienna opened her eyes the moment Josef shut the door. The day she dreaded has come.
He knows.
