Chapter 5

Dawn's POV

"Dawn, Dawn"

I jolted out of reality, Frances has been talking and I wasn't listening. I stared at my books, already laced with pen ink

"Yeah, you did that" Frances added with a scoff

"Are you angry at something or someone? Or is it something I said?"

I didn't even catch a glimpse of anything she said.

"No, no Frances I just got a little carried away for a moment"

"Sure you were, you didn't even notice when the bell rang, I brought out your book for you"

"Thanks love, you are such a darling" But my eyes were still surveying the whole room

No sign of him anywhere,I hit my lower lip as the teacher walked into the class

That day I didn't see him

"Maybe he is not a student here" I thought

"But I'm really sure I've seen him once or twice"

"Maybe I was wrong" i thought again

"You've been really off today. Or is it a hangover" She said playfully and I laughed

"The party was on a Friday, Frances what hangover could I possibly have"

"You tell me, cuz you've been sighing and reckless all day long" But her eyes were fixed on Layla frolicking with another guy that is not liam, her face slowly formed a disgusted look

"Some people just don't know when They are not welcomed"

I smiled and brushed my hair backwards,i was supposed to tell her I sneaked into her father's office?

"Do you mind coming to my place after school" I smiled excitedly

"And, free ice cream?"

"All on me" My elbow rested on the desk And my hand supporting my cheeks, she giggled

A big bang of the locker desk and then

"Oh you scared me" he jumped

"Oh hi Liam, so sorry for scaring you that way" I grinned

He rolled his eyes, hung his bag over his back and started moving

"So, I know you and I are not really much of a talker considering the fact that you're Layla's heartthrob and I've only been here for a few days.."

He paused suddenly, forcing me to hit a halt in my gesticulating, walking and talking

Then he turned to look at me, his face betraying no emotion

"Can you go straight to the point?"

Sure, I was about to"I laughed awkwardly and even louder when I noticed Layla's jealous eyes fixed on me from afar

"I want to ask about your friend" My tone is now serious and stern.

"I don't know what you're talking about"

"Sure you do" I folded my arms giving him another intimidating look

"You are obviously feigning ignorance"

"Um, Dawn,your name right? Dawn,I really don't know what you're talking about and if you'll excuse me I am in a hurry to go somewhere" He was about leaving when I added

"To meet Danny?"

He was startled for a little bit,cuz he paused,turned and made a few steps towards me.I was already smiling with the side of my mouth when he suddenly leaned forward and whispered

"To resume my part-time job" Then he smirked

"Asshole"

I muttered the moment I saw him walk towards Layla,locked his hands in hers,he turned again and raised one of his eyebrows up with a smirk again

"That's your part time job" I shook my head tweeting my lips to one side

The last 10 mins were tedious,Mia had to be the one reminding me the was a customer at the counter

"Why don't you let me attend to them and you give me 50 bucks" She whispered after Joe was the one that reminded me for the third time

"I don't have that Mia"

"35"

"I could change my freaking car tyres with that amount" I groaned

"Ohkay,25 and seriously that's my last price"

I grinned and gave her a thumbs up

"You got it Mia" Then walked over to Frances

"Jezz Dawn,you made me.This is my second ice cream"

I frowned playfully,She really likes Vanilla

"I prefer chocolate"I added and sat right in front of her

"Do you know who Danny is?" I asked Frances,but she won't even take her face off the ice cream

"Danny?,not really.All I know is that he's one good looking guy that every girl tries to roll with him"

"And his relationship with Liam?" She looked up almost disappointed

"Like I'm supposed to know Dawn" She shrugged

I pouted my lips,the other girl I asked in school too said she had no idea.

"But I do know his house address though,we live in the same neighborhood" That made me turn back and smile widely

They both really played it well,Liam and Danny,not being friends openly.

Danny Cole.

The name rang a bell,I brought out my phone and browsed the Internet

The couple that died in the Accident were Mr and Mrs Andrew Cole

"Are you alright Dawn?"

"Yah,yeah, totally" i blinked and shook my head.I really hope it's not what I'm thinking

I stood there, there,contemplating my conscience screaming at me as the tall guy in the hoodie came to throw the thrash bag

My mind wanted me to just walk up to him and talk,but say what?

That my dad was the one that caused the accident that night?

That it was a mistake,or that I think my dad would it have done that?

It won't bring his parents back,it won't mend his broken heart.I felt my face wet with tears

I bet he feels more resent to my family than any other thing

"You've seen worse Dawn,you've seen worse" I breathed,my subconscious pushing me hard but I just couldn't. I have never seen worse,certainly not worse like this,I have seen people's vexatious faces at me just because of the sin my dad committed but never have I come to face with any of the family members my dad hurt.

I can't just talk up to him,my family ruined his and I know what it feels like to have all that anger bottled inside you,that revenge

"I can't do this"

"I can't, I can't"

I shook my head,disagreeing with my subconscious.But I have to meet him,I have to talk to him

I resisted,falling a few steps back and watched as the tall lanky figure retreated and disappeared behind the gate.

I looked up at the house, Big,very big,and sophisticated but also very old.It probably used to be his family's habor.He will probably feel empty and alone in this big house

The rest of the week, I worked double at Joe's. Skipping school and using that free time to make money.

"I really do hope you are fine Dawn"

"I am"

I crossed my bed on the bed as I FaceTime Frances. I frowned when I heard some noises in her background

"Layla's tantrums" She rolled her eyes

I got to know that Frances and Layla live together, something I really did not think of while I was busy sneaking into their father's master room

"What" I made a side smile as I crunched on my chips

"Whatever the reason is for you to not have come to school throughout this week, iron it out. Or I'll drag your black butts to school on Monday"

" Sure.. sure mommy" I chuckled

"We are closed"

I said tiredly but still very loud enough for the person to know that I'm really frustrated and not in the mood for nice customer service, it's my day off but somehow Mia made me drag my foot all the way here.Said she needed to have a talk with her boyfriend,it was a lame excuse.but one good turn deserves another,doesn't it?.

"Heard you've been asking all over for me. Even traced me to my house" My head was tiled with my hands moving over the tables. I paused, it could only be one person

"Danny Cole" I froze instantly
