Chapter 1
Dawn's POV
Life has a cruel way of taking everything before you're old enough to understand what you've lost.
Some people spend their lives searching for happiness, others spend theirs searching for what was taken from them. What other iconic statements about life do I have.
Whatever
Life..just sucks
And today is just like every other day in my life.
She smiled as she jotted somethings down on her note pad
"Great improvement"
"With the medications and treatment,I can say..Dawn,there's been a great improvement in your mom"s health"
My hands on her lap and my eyes were as clear as the sky, this isn't the first time I would hear this
"Well...apart from the hallucinations, which I am sure will stop. we are actually still taking it into caution"
"Thank you" but my gaze was not on the doctor,it was on my lost looking mom, staring at nothing in particular.. muttering the only words she's been saying for the past few years
"He will kill me" and some other gibberish I have decided not to pay attention to,but still secretly inspecting
"Anytime Dawn" she walked away but stopped halfway at the doorstep
"Dawn"
She called and I turned my gaze to her direction
"Your mom will be fine"
I smiled bitterly, sure she will but certainly not looking like this
There is nothing the Doctors can do if she's like this,I turned to my mom.Her eyes felt distant, like nothing in. the physical mattered, she was staring at nothing in particular with her jaw half opened
"I hope so Doc"
"I pulled her hands and pressed it against my cheeks, could feel her temperature cooling.
My name is Dawn Greasley, daughter of a convicted murder
Well i'd say alleged cuz I'm so f*****g sure my dad isn't a murderer and my mom is down with a mental disorder. She was diagnosed years back.
My family wasn't always like this,It was perfect and the best family I could wish for.Til that faithful evening eight years ago,the loss of two lives at a devastating car accident. The answer was obvious. My dad was arrested, convicted and locked up,it was the perfect punishment for someone who caused an accident, everyone felt it fair except my mom, she slowly restricted into her world and chose fantasy over reality, or so I thought. I never visited my dad in prison,he never wanted to see me but just three months ago, I became his constant visitor. All because of one word I decided to listen to,one whisper that caught me off guard
"Your dad.. he was innocent Dawn"
My mom said in one of her weird talks. I have always wanted someone on my side,to prove the world wrong,I would go grocery shopping,to the pharmacy even to my workplace to receive only pitiful looks, gossips, people lowering their voices whenever i'm around and not one person has said "Hey,I know your dad isn't a murderer"
But hearing it from my mentally derailed mother gave me a little glimpse of hope. Maybe.. just maybe my dad was innocent. I don't know why.. but I believe it.
And now,my theory,is just about being Right.I took the last bite of pancakes before dropping it off on my plates as I took one final look at my perfectly arranged investigation board. My eyes fixed on my prime suspect, his name kept popping everywhere.Ofcourse all these theories are useless without any evidence, but I already have my own cute little plan.
Adam Hudson,a very influential in West Brook, had some connections to my family. That was all I know...for now and I plan to get more. But how... That I don't know yet
I looked at my dad,as he sat right at the other side of the prison bar.i thought in my mind
"I won't let you down dad" and I meant that, cuz whosoever is behind framing my dad and destroying my family...will sure have multiple gulps of their own medicine.,That I'm sure is a promise.
★★★
"You are late Dawn,again"
"Sorry Joe,I lost tract of time" I grabbed the apron from my boss and swiftly packed my hair in a low bun
"I may have to consider reducing your pay, given the fact that I already do most of the work before you come" I smirked cuz I know he can't
"What? Today is the only time I was late"
"Could happen tomorrow"His voice echoed from behind the counter.
Being working for Joe since...forever
His place was actually the first I went when I was in need of a job,but I still do not think anyone would accept me if I had gone elsewhere
Like..who would employ the daughter of a convicted criminal.
My work was simple, make and serve coffee
It's a coffee shop,duh.. but we make other things too, pastries, desserts, milkshakes,Bagels,Blueberry Muffins name it,even West Brook Blend..Joe is very industrious
He graduated from West Brook high, didn't bother to attend college,he just felt it wasn't for him,he used to work part-time at a coffee shop and was really good at making coffee. Then he opened his own shop and named it after West Brook town, anyone would still think Westbrook café was owned by the government but alas,it's owned by a private individual. And I really love this place.
★★★
Light taps on the coffee bar with girls giggling.I lifted my head from behind the bar
"Americano please, with extra ice" Her friends hovering around her
"I want Espresso"
"I'd like a latte" Their voices
"Thanks pretty" She smiled and stormed off with her friends.
My day..just got better.I just smiled and made to carry out their order
" With extra sugar cubes"she added again and twired her hair. Then that moment I knew what to do and how to do it
All I have to do is get close to his popular and high social life daughter
"Here you go,Layla"
"Thanks Dawn" She smiled sweetly and left with her friends to sit on one of the round tables
My eyes followed them to their seat as I twired my lips and smirked
