I zig zagged between the pine trees keeping my route to the east, I could smell he was close by... ...."HE'S OVER THERE! QUICK!! .... His wolf charged past me, missing me an inch. If I didn't know better, I would have instantly known he wasn't any normal rogue wolf. My army followed him not far behind. It didn't take long for my wolf and me to catch up and lead the pack on his tail. "Jenson! take Eric and head over west, we'll send him off track a bit further up! be ready to ambush!" I ordered. Jenson's wolf took a west turn and disappeared through the trees, Eric vanished after. We were about to catch this bastard once and for all! I got you now you son of a bitch... ............ My men and I stayed on track to ensure he didn't escape. But he was not indicating giving up his chase just yet... "keep him ahead!" I yelled. I began to pick up my speed until I was practically at his heels. The rogue had caught wiff of me and made a sharp turn throwing us all off. Now's our chance! "Jenson! he's heading your way-" Before my mind link had even finished I could hear their wolves in action. I charged in with my men not far behind me. "Everyone spread out!" our time was now. We darted in different directions, hoping to create an ambush circle. But by the time I approached, I saw the rogue already had Eric pinned down with Jenson knocked out cold... There was NO more time to waste. "LET'S GO RAZOR" I charged straight ahead, managing to throw my shoulder straight into the rogues ribcage, his entire body flew out of control into a nearby tree stump! CRACK! BANG! I can't say for certain but that splat must have echoed for miles! He was motionless... "That's a hit! He's down for the count! Good work lads! " "OOOOOOOOH" My boys howled, the victory was ours! With our borders cleared we could drag the rogues mangled body and prop him up against a boulder. It was time to call off the search. I mind linked everyone to all stand down, "let's get him up" The rogue had already shifted back to his human self and slowly held his hand up in defeat. "OKAY... OKAY THATS... ENOUGH!!!" he coughed, gripping his chest tightly. I could see by his face he must have suffered at least few crushed ribs from the blow. I shifted back and ordered my men to do the same. everyone was human again within in seconds. "What happened? are we done already?" Jenson snapped awake, looking dazed and confused. The other wolves crowded around the rogue and helped him sit up. "We only had half hour today?" "Its still better than yesterday" I said stretching out my shoulders and neck. These training courses were recently getting shorter and shorter. It's come to the point where we could literally catch a rogue and apprehend them within 10 minutes or less. But thankfully Alex was actually a pretty fast wolf so today was definitely more challenging. "Yeah but we'd have much longer sessions if you didn't turn our bones to dust all the time" he laughed. I guess I couldn't argue with that... But I'm a firm believer that tough love was the best way for my men to learn the right areas to hit! Just a shame today's turn was Alex's... Speaking of which. "You okay Alex?" I wondered over dusting my hands from the dirt, he tried to raise his head but winced in pain "No I think my ribs are broken, it hurts to breath... " Ouch. Sure enough, I could already see the dents of where his ribs should have been. I must have broken at least four. "hold still" I ordered, I placed my hands gently on his rib cage and waited patiently for his body to repair, his ribs all went back into place one by one. "Thankyou!" he gasped taking in deep breaths. I jumped up on the nearest boulder, time to call it a day. "Good work today! Gather round!" all the boys made their way over and stood in a circle "First of all, I want to give a big Kudos to Alex today, he took one hell of a long time to catch and really took one for the team today. Well done!" Everyone clapped Alex who was still sat in his same position. He smiled and gave us all a heroic salute "and a quick reminder that we have training day for the kids tomorrow so we all need to be up and ready first thing for 7 o'clock" a few of my men groaned.. But like me, they were used to the early starts. "And lastly! the rules still apply! The wolf who arrives last for tomorrows training day will be chosen to be the next rogue for our next session, so sleep well tonight! you all earned it, well done again!" We all clapped around before wondering about for our posessions. This training session was definitely a killer, but each session we pass, the more aware and ready we are than before. Our reputation did not fall on silent claims and false words, and I was not about to let it go soon. "Well done guys" we all said goodnight. They've been up and training hard since morning, so they definitely deserved to finish a bit early, I could even do with a quick break before my evening duties began- "COUGH!" I looked around to see Alex still hadn't moved. Instead he was trying not to make it so obvious that he was looking directly at me... "You not gone yet?" I pulled out my hair band releasing my hair into the evening breeze, his gaze was beginning to make me feel tense. Please get the hint....... "I'm fine" He smiled, I could tell he was slightly anxious in my presence. "I just wanted to say thanks again for breaking my ribs tonight" I grabbed my hoodie from the branch next to him and threw it over my shoulder. "Not a problem" I stated "just hope you take note for any attacks like that in the future. Always a good place to hit your target when attempting to wind them" I returned a half smile, hoping I didn't just send any wrong signals, but I really needed to let Razor run before attending the Alpha and Lunas leave. "Well I gotta say you are definitely the first girl I know who is capable of kicking my ass like that" he smoothly threw his jacket over his still shirtless body "Better than any of the guys too" "I appreciate the compliment" I point blank ignored his attempt of seduction and threw his rucksack straight into his stomach "Now get yourself back. I need make sure we have everyone on the night shift for tonight" He c****d his head to the side and gave me his best smile... "Well we can always walk back together... It'll make me feel safer being with you... Plus... You know, we go that way anyway... So" No thanks. "If you need me to walk you home, then I question your capabilities as my soldier Alex" I threw my hoodie at him, hoping this small task will send him away long enough for me to enjoy my silence. "Take this to the barracks and I'll pop by to collect later" I think it worked "Okay" he winked ruffling his short brown hair playfully. "I'll just have to try again tomorrow then. Later" With a quick wink he'd shifted himself back into his wolf and had bolted off straight into the distance. Those same few seconds I also began to feel the silence wash over me, leaving me feeling a sense of comfort in the autumn breeze. "Finally" I breathed to myself gently. I was alone at last. I've been up since the c***k of dawn with my morning duties and training, these few minutes a day can really ease tension of the mind when it works away on overdrive. ---- ---- ---- "Can we go already!?" Razor suddenly broke my silence by kicking at the surface of my skin, agitating the nerves. "I'm sick of all this waiting around!" My wolf was awake again.. "Yes, two seconds..." My wolf was a strong wolf. And would relentlessly pester me when she wanted something, most days I had no choice but to submit... It was the only way to keep her happy and quiet during our sessions together. I double checked the time, 5:29pm, we had half an hour to kill. "Alright let's make this quick. Well check out the packland borders and then head back okay? - " Before my sentence even finished she had already shifted me into her mind and taken off into the forest. Her attitude really did piss me off at times. "Just please don't make us late again!!!" ------------------------------------------ (45 minutes later) "Oh there you are! I was beginning to worry" Luna Saffron was already waiting for my presence by the main doors of the palace. I quickly shifted back from my sprint! "Nice job i***t" I growled at my wolf, she quickly shut down pretending to snooze in my mind. Ignorant mutt.. "I'm sorry my Luna!" I bowed apologeticly "I took my wolf for a quick run.." Razor had decided to take a detour on the way back as a protest to coming back early from our sprint. If we weren't fast we would have easily missed their departure. The Luna really didn't seem pleased with my curtsey... "how many more times must I say this" She cupped her hands around my face and just smiled "you don't need to be so informal with me" She brushed my hair off my neck to reveal my mark. "I only wanted to ask you if tomorrow was still going ahead?" Luna Saffron and Alpha James ruled over the Thornmoor pack with an iron fist, giving order and respect to all of our wolves and humans who resided within our barriers. We held the reputation of being the largest and strongest pack in all of Europe, and the most respected and royal in all the world. It continues to be in place ever since the very beginning of time. We have spoken and performed for ourselves on many occasions, and continue to do so ruthlessly! We aren't a pack to be reckoned with, and the other packs around the globe know this simply through our history and battles alone. But I gave just as much of my respect to the Luna and Alpha just like everyone else did, maybe even more... "the training will still proceed as usual" I said forcing myself not to say Luna. "But we will be abit short on men, so I will be taking one of the men off duty on the country road tomorrow for help, it may mean il have to cover the night shift however. But that won't be an issue" The Luna looked at me and just sighed, she was always unhappy with my work schedules "We always appreciate your hard work Red" she murmured softly "but you do need to learn when to take a day off at times" A day off didn't exist to me. "But I do take my days off, every weekend... Ow!" She flicked me around the ear! "No, you use your days off. Thats not the same as taking it is it?" Her remark made my wolf grunt with disapproval. And my earlobe sting... "No my Luna" I couldn't help but feel forced to leave duties unattended every single weekend. Simply because I get told that I must have a day off. .... Most of my time is usually spent making phone calls, training, fighting, working and the occasional pack meetings if they needed a fill in. But this was basically my chosen lifestyle, and my time was dedicated to serving my pack alone. A day off wouldn't satisfy my needs or even justify the lack of paper work being left undone. If only she'd understand... HONK HONK! We suddenly sent our attention over to the Alphas new black Bentley, His body was almost hanging completely out of the window! "Hey Red! What do you think?" He honked his horn, turning the heads of all the other wolves around us, Luna saffron scowled in his direction. "I've decided we're taking this car darling, we travel in style tonight!" he honked his new horn over and over making the birds fly south for the winter. "I thought I told you we were taking the Defender" The Luna really didn't look impressed "our luggage can't fit in that surely!" "Oh the contrary my sweet!" - That was it, he didn't hesitate to prove her wrong, he was already out the car and prying open his new boot "Prepare.... To be amazed! Wolla!" The boot popped open revealing a very clean and spacious interior... I hated to admit it, but that certainly was one roomy car. "the suitcases will go in the boot, and the guest gifts will sit here in the back behind us..." "And what about Wilson?" Wilson was the palace stewerd. he worked closely with the Alpha and Luna to ensure all information was protected and the legal papers were all signed and reviewed. Aswell as many other general duties. Alpha James just laughed. "well he can sit in the back aswell can't he? theres still plenty of room for him. And he gets his own lap tray! See!" He excitedly flipped down a dinner tray attached to the back of the front seat. Luna Saffron seemed to understand when she had been defeated. "Fine, but you better still have space in the car after" She gestured over to some nearby omegas to start packing the car. This was our Alpha. "It's possible you may be stuck with this car until a new model comes out I'm afraid" I mind linked the Luna, she just laughed. "the two garages are already full! At this rate we'll have to have another one fitted underground!" "I'm fine with that!" Alpha James honked. He started trying to fit a sat nav onto his front window while the Omegas began loading up the boot. Wait a minute. "Doesn't he have a built in sat nav like all cars do these days?" Luna Saffron just shook her head. "He maybe our Alpha but he is still a simple man at heart. I just don't have the heart to tell him that.... yes, it does in fact have a built in sat nav, even has a computer installed too by the looks of it. I just leave him be, keeps him happy and quiet for a few minutes" It was small moments like this that I couldn't help but just adore them that little bit more... 20 years together and they still love each other that much! That you would deliberately hide the fact that a brand new car made this year has a sat nav already installed.. -------- Ten minutes in and it's TIME TO GO The Bentley was finally packed with their luggage, gifts and a Wilson, all squashed together in the back. The Alpha was mind linking everybody in the pack before the Luna and him left. "We return in three nights! I still expect all of your duties to continue on despite our absence, and I'd also like to remind you all, we still continue to host the twentieth anniversary ball for myself and our Luna, we wish for the grand halls to be decorated and set up ready for our guests arrival and our return. In the time of our absence, I place Red in charge of the pack until we return" thousands of replies echoed back in a strong wave "Yes Alpha!" and the mind link was over. I gathered together 10 of my strongest men to escort the Alpha and Luna on their journey "I hope your journey remains clear for your arrival" I bowed. I never really cared for good byes so this was the best I could do. But Alpha James just laughed at me "For goodness sake child, informal talk doesn't suit you! When will you learn already!?" he pulled me in and gave me a tight bear hug, crushing the air straight out of my lungs. "Promise you'll be good? No partying or vandalism?" "Il try" I managed to splutter, My wolf and I weren't very effectionate specimens so this was torture to us just being hugged. "Come on Jamie, why don't you go keep the engine running?" the Luna saved me and Razor from the Alphas death grip, as that suggestion flew the Alpha straight in the car within miliseconds behind the steering wheel. "Thankyou" I choked recovering all my oxygen. For a gentle personality he didn't half hide his strength. "Now then" The Luna took my hands gently and looked into my eyes, Her gaze told me she was worried about all this. "Will you be alright with tomorrow mornings duties, I'm still happy to take them with me to complete" "I will be fine" I said forcing a smile "I promise, I'll even take the evening off once training is finished, Simon can cover the country roads" This seemed to ease her worry. She was finally relaxed for the first time since my return "Thankyou, we will return as soon as the meeting is over" Luna Saffron let my hands go gently "Any issues please alert me straight away" I nodded in reply. We both exchanged a small bow before she was in in the car ready to go. "Keep their paths clear at all cost" I linked my soldiers. The men began to shift and five took off ahead. The other five shadowed the car "Remember, be good!" The Alpha honked again. I laughed to myself. They've gone away so many times to many different meetings and events, and yet they still think they will come back to no palace at all. I watched until the car was completely out of sight before pulling out my check list. I had said goodbye and now It was time to do the evening schedule.... I did say this was my life after all. I would first do a soldier count. Second do next week's rotas. third pick out the watch men for tomorrow night and tonight. fourth complete any unfinished emails from this morning. And then see about taking a night off tomorrow... But I am going to be on a really tight schedule....
